Merry Corncrakes 3.3: Robert Burns, Scotland's National Poet
*Due to an unforeseen shortage of haggis, I was unable to complete the address to the haggis swishing a knife before the lovely round plump meal before this went live. Amends must be made!

Does Haughty Gaul Invasion Threat? Does haughty Gaul invasion threat? Then let the louns beware, Sir; There's wooden walls upon our seas, And volunteers on shore, Sir: The Nith shall run to Corsincon, And Criffel sink in Solway, Ere we permit a Foreign Foe On British ground to rally! We'll ne'er permit a Foreign Foe On British ground to rally! O let us not, like snarling curs, In wrangling be divided, Till, slap! come in an unco loun, And wi' a rung decide it! Be Britain still to Britain true, Amang ourselves united; For never but by British hands Maun British wrangs be righted! No! never but by British hands Shall British wrangs be righted! The Kettle o' the Kirk and State, Perhaps a clout may fail in't; But deil a foreign tinkler loun Shall ever ca'a nail in't. Our father's blude the Kettle bought, And wha wad dare to spoil it; By Heav'ns! the sacrilegious dog Shall fuel be to boil it! By Heav'ns! the sacrilegious dog Shall fuel be to boil it! The wretch that would a tyrant own, And the wretch, his true-born brother, Who would set the Mob aboon the Throne, May they be damn'd together! Who will not sing "God save the King," Shall hang as high's the steeple; But while we sing "God save the King," We'll ne'er forget The People! But while we sing "God save the King," We'll ne'er forget The People!
I’ve read Finding Merlin and Finding Arthur, and quite frankly, I think Adam Ardery is spot on. No other theory seems to fit as perfectly as what he proposes. After reading them I am convinced his research, and assumptions are probably VERY close to what actually transpired and where it actually took place, and who the actual people were.
Your last question is precisely what I was wondering the entire time if the wealthy aristocrats truly feel that the opera is worth having or protecting at all costs then they should be the ones bearing the burden of that cost not the public money now on the other side, if the every man group, the general populous wants a football stadium or any other type of mass entertainment, then they should support that by attending it, which is generally the way things work, and unfortunately many cities in Local governments and what not due tend to waste a lot of money, trying to encourage sports teams to make a home or maintain a home in a particular place in fact, the state that I live in we have a football team that is on. I think they’re third stadium and we’re still making payments on the first one which was torn down several years ago so I do not understand why the public tax money has to go towards that when it should absolutely come from the ticket prices and other revenues from that particular facility and or sports franchise there are many ways to pay for this without using government or public funds. And one final note just in case the punctuation and or grammar or any particular word in here doesn’t fit very well. I did use text to speech so I apologize if anything is confusing.
This is the most erudite thing i have seen on googtube, perhaps ever. Bravo.
CAM ON OPERA *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* SING SOME FACKING NOTES!!
Nice norwegian flag hat!
The story’s that get told to our youth are vital for the successful development of our national identity and culture. Unfortunately compared to previous times our modern authors are too precise and cold with details to the point of strangling the imagination and wonder of the reader.
At least it’s a hat worth buying/wearing Gud stuff Nathan 🙏🏻 God save the English.
The English?
Lovely flag
Very nice British flag
The flags of the Ridings of Yorkshire have Nordic crosses
@@whiggles9203 best kind of British flag ;)
Government funding free opera nights every now and then might encourage the everyman to give it a try, not necessarily to persuade them to replace sport or whatever their usual interests are, but to at least expose them to this kind of beauty so that some may see the value in it, understand its importance, even if it is not up the majority's alley. I think it's critical to preserve high-culture even if it doesn't turn a profit. Ideally, both the people and the elite would work hand and hand toward that end. This goes for museums and libraries as well. We really shouldn't have to twist people's arms to preserve these, it should be seen as a civic duty, but I guess the debasement and subversion of these cultural institutions has done its damage.
Great people, my only concern is when those regional identities lead to separatism.
These shorts are great and give us much to think about. Please continue doing them! One word about transubstantiation, though. Catholic dogma is that the bread and wine transform into the flesh and blood of the living Christ, so during communion we are joining ourselves with him at that moment in heaven. We are not traveling through time, but space or dimensions. Of course, the mass is also a symbolic representation of the crucifixion.
Thank you - I appreciate both your knowledge and the way you shared it with me!
You and AA have the best shorts in this corner right now
Thank you - very kind of you to say!
Middle Class takes the boot
Fascinating! I’ve been studying male Y haplogroup migration paths. There is one group that follows a line similar to what you have in the middle. They go back and forth on it. Happy to send the video of it to you. Would love to hear more about the Pendragon family too.
Yea
Convictions as well as formative life experiences and quality of engagement with the world to inform the authenticity and depth of their writing
Couldn’t have put it better!
The Shire is where the hobbits dwell not men. The Shire has become synonymous with the countryside of England but the hardships and gruelling aspects are there unlike the Shire.
Peak souls 2 is even better. It's nice to see you enjoyed ds3 though!
I just started DS1, fantastic so far.
Absolutely agree. Great game.
I disagree hugely I think jimi was one of the best songwriters ever to the extent that I listen to his music for the song as oppose to his brilliance on guitar
Popular music is gay.
Are your serious about Jimi Hendrix? Clearly you are just pulling our legs.
No I’m not. He was a great guitarist but he lets his guitar dominate and the songs lose their balance. He’s known for his guitar playing, not as a composer.
@@ncjhood I disagree completely, "The Wind Cries Mary" "Little Wing" "If 6 was 9" "Angel" "Bold as Love" "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" "Castles Made of Sand" "1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)" All great Songs, Musically and Lyrically. The list goes on. Go back and give them another listen please.
The Wind Cries Mary is very good tbf I will listen. But I think only a small selection of pop songs are truly great musically
Rather like a novel which is first an analogy before a narrative
The Beatles are the kings of not doing anything more than just what the song needs - Ringo Starr in particular.
Have you tried Sekiro or any other from soft games?
I've played a fair bit of Elden Ring, watched livestreams of others (which isn't the same as playing it). Any recommendations?
@@ncjhood If I must interject, Sekiro is quite a wonderful game. Focussed more on parrying & stealth with a more vertical level design. Different genre entirely, but if the idea of Sekiro sounds good (with its focus on parrying), Nine Sols is a wonderful little Metroidvania. Great story to it & it's not overtly difficult either.
Spot on.
I've been thinking about this in terms of high language as well. High German is, for example, a fictional language, that is used to unify the German tribes in a fictional identity. The seminal works in High German are then what constitute the narrative of a fictional National identity: Luther, Kant, Hegel, Schiller, Goethe, etc. In practice Germans nowadays seem to be very particular about their use of high language (more in some areas that others), because it defines their identity through the high culture in which it was developed and refined. There are simultaniously areas where the local dialect is more highly regarded, and High German is considered something pretentious and cold. That's my impression at least.
Nationalism serves the same purpose towards localism that globalism serves towards nationalism. It's a method to counteract tribalism and regionalism.
I like Pepsi but sometimes drink Coke.
』?
My particularist familial allegiances clash with broader sub-micro-nationalistic localism, as does my particularist allegiance to my own insanity when it clashes with my sub-micro-nano-nationalistic familial allegiances.
man discovers universals clash with particulars
True! :) It matters because many see nationalism as the primary alternative to globalism but both break down the concrete and local
The border reivers. Fascinating bit of history. I'm biased being from the north east. Their loyalty to their own kin over their nation makes sense when you consider the time period and that their land was used as a battle ground, their livestock and livlihood taken by force to feed the armies of either side. To the English or the Scottish people of those areas, no matter which army came traipsing through, you're in for a rough one. Without this, the English borderers would have seen an English army as liberators, most likely strengthening national identity. Consider also that local identities in England persist, despite English also existing as an identity for over 1000 years. Just my immediate thoughts on it. Love your work, keep it up!
If you want heterogeneity you want a kingdom, or a multi ethnic empire- the norm throughout history. Capital n Nationalism is a modern homogenising phenomenon.
an Empire is anti-Republic
Hmm indeed. As pleasant as the shire is, the nagging of neighbors and the domesticity can stunt a hobbit, keep him stuck in his hole with his nose in a book instead of journeying out of of the womb and into the wilds and the mountains.
That's a young man's perspective ... Ahd probably correct, young men used to leave the village to seek war etc , they were not "pressed" , obviously this is something feminists have esperately tried to repress , quite successfully judging by large of the leftist beta men..I see on Twitter, usually American tbf west coast types
It’s interesting that before and during the adventures all the characters of the fellowship are bachelors. Only afterward does Aragorn and Sam settle down as patriarchs over their families and communities. The young man has to go on the adventure to make himself ready and worthy of being a husband and father.
The Shire is an idealised 'Home'
Men belong to Gondor, not to the Shire.
So they don't have sports in the Shire?
I believe hobbits invented the game of golf
@@ncjhood Probably cricket too. :D The shire is where you return to after adventuring. It's where you raise your kids and retire in peace.
These ideas of equality epitomise the best and worst of the Anglo.
I was listening to the peasants' revolt episodes by The Rest Is History today Glad to have your wholesome version, instead
good point about conflict. the general stasis of the past 50+ years (so many people seemingly cryogenically frozen in time whilst everything around them changed) has been detrimental.
Thanks mr Hood for sharing your knowledge and interest in this period and their events, just the right pace too which is very important for listening.
Wasn't this on my feed in 2019?!
I swear this popped up on my feed like 5 months ago
Yeah I had to postpone but glad to finally do it!
@@ncjhood I remember looking forward to watching it, only to find it had disappeared. Very glad to see it hasn't been gotten rid of. I will enjoy watching it sometime soon
