The only way to achieve that with a kick is either impacting with the dorsum/toes or the heel, but definitely not the lower shin, because that would take the whole head. And since Ryan's leg was straightened out, it must have been the dorsum and that is a great way to break your foot. The same thing happens in the final flight, with the other "KO kick", this time with a sneaker, but also very jaw-selective.

Both Jake and Ryan are natural-born fighters, but Jake, at this point, is such an amateur. Despite a lack of training, he still maintains a perfect stance and can deliver powerful hits. This is one shallow movie yes. But it does teach you important things about what Martial arts can do to a person. When the protagonist starts out, he is full of potential, but he has inner demons, he is reckless, and he easily gets into confrontation. The more he improves physically and the more he learns skills, he learns to be more calm, and he learns that it is sometimes better to walk away. That is what I always say. I walk out of fights not because I am scared of the other guy. I walked out because I know myself, and I do not need to prove anything to anyone. Especially to the other guy.
