This is a remarkable song. Nancy Kerr has a real gift for songwriting. And performing, love Sweet Visitor and Melrose Quartet.

Exceedingly well put-together and beautifully sung! I was expecting some heavy-handed re-imagining of those trad. blood libel songs covering the actual sins of Christian institutions, but this is deep-rooted, delicate and comes to blossom with Blake. Great stuff (even if it merges the 'raven as bad guy' rarely found in folk songs with 'raven as prophet', which is).

Oh, well sung! There's some fine irony that the soldier version of this folksong is more often explicit about him dying of infected venereal disease lesions than the cowboy one, where the lad generally dies of wounds sustained in combat.
