Escaping from police in Saudi Arabia
A Misunderstanding in Saudi Arabia
While driving through the streets of Saudi Arabia, I had an encounter with the local traffic police. An officer stopped me and began speaking fluently in Arabic. Unfortunately, my command of the language is quite low. From his grim expression and gestures, it seemed like he was asking for my documents. However,due to my limited command over languages, I thought he was giving me the green light to move on.
With a generous nod and a smile, I thanked the officer and drove off, i was completely unaware to the actual request. It wasn't until later that I realized he might have been asking for my identification and my documents. If only I had understood the language, the situation could have been resolved on the spot.
Next time, I'll make sure to brush up on my Arabic or at least keep a translation app handy!
