For wawe clear yes q max into e is much better but since sylas doesent scale as well as he used to and him already having enough damage in it's kit the w sustain is more valuable to try and snowball early game , and since the cool down goes down by a lot and it has a lot of AP scaling since it's healing + damage both scaling from AP , and it's point and click which q is very hard to land is pretty much why but most otps give 2 point into q early game then w max 👍 we don't clear waves around here 😭

i will when the 14.10 patch drops , for now assasin is more viable but the ionian boot rush into protobelt with conquerer seems to be getting picked up by some sylas otps lately me included and i think it will be even better next patch

Yeah it's really neet wish more Ults had little work arounds like that , you still slowly start mutating if you steal Samira ult to this day (they will never fix this 😭)
