I'm from the future, you know this OS is dead already.
Where is that place
good effort
sky walk its view point of yercurd
This is a desktop envrioment
WHOA 2 VIDEOS PLAYING AT ONCE?!?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT POSSIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
Extremely inefficient, by use of memory and and the amount of windows that are active. No, this was never the future.. A 3d operating system?, if such a thing would happen then it would have had to change the entire Operating system fundamentally.
This is basically 2d applications rendering in an 3d OS. The problem is that most of the tasks we use a computer for are 2D. Most data processing is 2d. Moving things into 3D, you'd delete a file and it would show up as a crumpled sheet of paper in your desktop. To delete it permanently, you'd have to flick it towards the recycle bin. You'd click the computer and a list of devices would show up, each leading to a room furnished with objects relating to the capabilities of the device. A speaker would contain a microphone (play mic output live), your music albums, and of course a filing cabinet to load any sound file you find. Your browser might contain a wall of lcds displaying different windows you have open. Clicking any of them would make it full screen. Another cool feature is customizing your 'rooms'; you could add different objects to each one, allowing them to specialize in different tasks. You'd be able to load and place objects, such as 3d models from your games, posters and sticky note reminders, and even put up photos of family or your favourite art. Windows showing low res 3d views recorded from games, the real world, or handcrafted would give the illusion of depth when the OS only renders a small scene. You'd need a graphics card to run the OS at high resolutions. I think there's a long way to go before a 3D OS goes from being a gimmick (like the video above) to being a feasible productivity tool
this isnt even a OS. its a desktop envrioment xD
Is the quality of the visuals better than that of the video?
This is not what an operating system is.
+Soggy Android It's a windowing system.
I thought this was going to be really 3D. Like with glasses and the taskbar looking close and the background way in the back. That would be an interesting computer. We have 3D projectors and 3D TVs; Why don't we have 3D computer monitors? Obviously its not for everyone but id give it a go.
We have 3d monitors, but it's more of a gimmick at the moment. We need more 3D applications that people need to use every day. Considering businesses still use 30-year-old dot-matrix printers, and the average user doesn't do more than open their browser, watch video, and listen to music, I can't imagine 3D being adopted as the standard for many years to come. Until then, we have these really cool tech demos that aren't actually 3D
Correction: they render 3D, but the apps they render don't benefit a whole lot from being run in 3D
Waiting for the day I can run around in my OS. Xp
This predicted quite a lot of UI elements in recent years. I am quite impressed.
I read through most of the comments however I think that that's a solid clip. My cousin wishes to get perfect with chicks. He uncovered a fuck load from Master Attraction. (Google it if you want pretty good emails on picking up girls.) The help and advice concerned with how to get girls at night clubs in the emails through that website gave got him his very first lays in a few long years. I have been pissed though as I heard them all.
Life sucks. My friend has started dating a 10 because 8 weeks back he registered to a site called Master Attraction (Google it if you'd like to know more.) I'm so green with envy since I wish to just fall in love as well. I'm going to look at this Jake Ayres guy's material. Surprising thing is, my friend previously had no results with females. How could you transform so rapidly? His lady's like a model...
what a piece of shit is this................
That is so cool. When was this video recorded?
This originally hit the community in 2004-5.
Grow up kiddo.
I use windows 7 and linux, what do you use? mac? LOL
This can run on Linux, it's a GUI
What you are saying here makes my head hurt.
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than Windows 8
that you are looking at is a os, windows is a os. thats like asking where can i download a windows version of linux. lol
0:43 APPLE copy this
where can I download a windows version of this?
I remember watching this video years ago, this stuff was way ahead of its time!
3D operating system?! I was hoping it would let me hide my icons in a cave behind one of those mountains. :-)
That was coming this looks like the pre-beta.
This is just a toy
@bv90andy ... 1). We don't find many developers interested in exploiting these security vulnerabilities (though they exist, hence Apple's repeated security patches which they apply a bit more secretly than other companies so as to not harm their image). 2). Even for those interested, the usual avenues (ex: pirate software cracks/keygens, torrents, etc.) aren't something the average mac user generally uses so much.
@bv90andy It is a legitimate point though that OSX users are less vulnerable to malware. If I were getting a computer for my grandmother, I'd consider an iMac with OSX with that being a big reason. What Apple fans don't seem to realize is that OSX has some of the worst security vulnerabilities of any operating system (OSX was among the last to apply ASLR, e.g.). It's actually even less secure than Windows in many respects, which might surprise people. BUT......
@darksinthe Then you must be a Windows power user..
BeOS 3D Niiiiiiiiice
It's Solaris with "looking glass" for the GUI. I liked it a lot, but I simply don't use Solaris because I'm a gamer. If a geek ever developed a windows layer (api's that help install, run and contain windows programs and exes without an emulator) i'd most certainly use it as my main OS. That's one problem these OS companies don't see. EXE or nothing. Sure, virus risks, but come on... EXE files!!!
OMFG you Monster! You have an illegally downloaded movie playing! lol
HOW old is this video?
SUN got brought out by Oracle. To much to fast and to good. Just like when COMPAQ came out with the TC1000 tablet, HP brought it out but let this go to Apple. I lost money when COMPAQ was brought out...stock...
im sorry but i dont think i would ever use it
what ever happened to this? i remember installing it one time in solaris. it never did take off..... come to think of it, solaris never took off as a desktop OS. (simply wonderful for a server) the way this OS handled threads was way ahead of it's time. imagine games written for solaris.... ahhh............... wish some group would dedicate to bringing it to life.
worthless. seems annoying and useless
oooooooold
Wow, that was nothing special.
Well, yeah. This project was first shown in 2003. That's THREE YEARS before the first version of Compiz was released. Check it out yourself, look for Project Looking Glass on Wikipedia. Compiz, while now better than this, was then non-existent or during a very early stage of development. Looking Glass is now inactive for a couple of years. It was just a technology preview, really impressive for 2003.
more like 2.5d then 3d , i hoping for a a cross between a tron and nmomenic os
This stuff is pretty cool stuff. But overall pretty much useless...
@davidmcawesome Virtual desktops were way before Linux. Xerox did it first like most GUI things. Amiga had them before Linux. Apple bought the Dock from NeXT. NeXT might have stolen it, but there's a long list of candidates for whom they might have stolen it from.
i guess it is 3 years old, we have come a long way in 3 years, still better than windows ever was back then :D
everybody is trying to imitate apple... this thing looks good, but what... its so nice that you can move it like that, but they forgot to make it useful
Boooooring
check for videos tagged Metisse. It is an earlier, open, true 3d system (the window is 3d object over the surface and may have it's own full 3d objects). Compiz has only the 3d plane for 2d windows, making them look cool and distorted. however, at 0:46 it is clearly shown that a 3d webpage here may show it's code,or comments, or whatsoever at the back side. Compiz is not for dualsided windows and there was this feature in Metisse.
@davidmcawesome lol thats not apple stole apple stole creative lab's mp3 player GUI there is a lawsuit about it and you can google it for more info MAC SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL
is this might open solaris? the linux/unix based free os?
