give those trailers last rites
I set up an Alan Hershal
not many widows in the older offiices
those generators probably had pony motors to start them
oh the good ole days
Used to live on and ride that train...
Very impressive knowing what everything was. Vintage footage. The train now isn't as fun to watch load due to the coach situation but still a tradition.
That Band Organ sure brings back the memories....wonder what Strates ever did with it.
Laura R concerning the organ at 6:05 I don’t know where that organ is but I believe the organ wagon pictured at 6:00 is a different organ that was in the show during the 70’s. I own that organ and the wagon. I am restoring it and hopefully in a few years it will once again be making music for the amusement of all those who are nearby. I am now looking for ANY AND ALL images, videos and especially any audio recordings of my organ. It is the organ that came from NJ. Then went to Jim Parrish in Danville, VA.
a blast from the past
Great job Jim! There were a lot of memories there from my one year with the show in 1975 and also before that when James E. Strates was still alive. In my hometown of Winston-Salem, WOM went bankrupt in 1963. Strates has played the Dixie Classic Fair every since.
So many memories in so many ways.
Nice 1988 VHS camcorder footage. Interesting to see the Sky Wheel and Skydiver included back then ... two beautiful rides that don't see much action anymore. Another beautiful piece from 70's and 80's carnivals that I miss seeing is the Toboggan ... more fun to look at than to actually ride though ... similar in that respect to the Skydiver.
Jim, having videotaped tear down and train loading at Danbury Fair Mall in 2008, looks like nothing much changed in the intervening three decades. This video and narration are absolutely irreplaceable gems. Thanks heaps for sharing your detailed commentary 👍🏻
