Anyone can do what mark rothko did There’s meaning in it and it is art But it’s bad art (our teacher said that bad art exists) but that’s still art but shouldn’t be sold as much as it might have did it’s all rich people trying to escape money kaundering
My art appreciation teacher choose this video means it was lucky that out of 518 views you have My teacher saw it And it’s most likely almost all of your views in this video are students from previous class and from this class Unless you are my teacher
i have just discovered your channel. I absolute adore your videos...what a great job. you are terrific...the wa you explain...you seem to know exactly what to stress, how to tell important concepts in a comprehensible way. semplicity is complexity resolved. this aforism is for you. thanks for your work.
It's a pity that we know Tang era painting mostly through literary reference, with so few securely dated examples surviving from the time. The full, round faces so emblematic of the period has also been attributed to the standard of beauty initiated by Emperor Xuanzong's famous mistress Yang Guifei, who died in 756, this lady known for plump features and ample form.
Small correction for future watchers, the white army in the Russian Civil War was *not* headed by the Mensheviks. The Mensheviks were a rival socialist party that had mostly either joined with the Bolsheviks or had fizzled out by the time of the Civil War. The Whites in the Civil War were almost exclusively composed of Russians who opposed the Bolsheviks, primarily Tsarists. Obviously it's a small correction but it's worth pointing out.
Hello Dr. Moorchild - I am enrolled in a humanities class at Univ of Illinois in Springfield studying Japanese and American art of the 19th century. I found your on-line lectures and have really benefited from them. Your teaching style is fabulous and I have totally enjoyed learning from you. Are you currently teaching at a university ? I would be interested in enrolling in any on-line classes you offer.

Hi! It's Art History, by Stokstad and Cothren, published by Pearson. It's pretty much a classic introductory survey text and is now in its 6th edition. It's expensive but you can often find used copies online. Enjoy! Thanks for your interest.
Great presentation on Rodchenko...I'm currently doing a paper on Russian Avant-Garde photography for my history of photography class at Rutgers U890 and am completely enamored with Rodchenko's vision as a photographer...he was absolutely 1,000,000 years ahead of his time. It's tragic that Stalin later revamped the photographic movement of the USSR towards "socialist realism" in 1932, because I think it really stymied Rodchenko's art.
Just the right length and depth for an intro to Jasper's concept. The Dhammic (Pali) paths to liberation are so different (in form, and certainly in historical consequences) from the Abrahamic ''religions''. The ''psychology'' (these Western Procrustean beds!) are also different- scant attention paid to the illusion of personality- Consciousness is primary! Westerners seeking to conceive of Nirvana (loved that you mention the band!), would do well to realize it is described as ''Nirodha'' - extinction, cessation, ''blowing out'' (like a candle), and not some heaven to be personally obtained. Though Theravadan Buddhist, I have found life long joy in the Taoism of Lau Tzu, Chuang Tzu, and Lieh Tzu, and the wonderful mix of the latter with Mahayana Buddhism that was Chan and latter, Zen. Buddhism continues its movement eastward until finally arriving in the West. ''Religion'' is declining in the West, but the fastest growing, is Buddhism. Even Western science, from particle and astrophysics to psychology is drawing inspiration from its 2, 500 years of insight! Liked and subbed. With metta! P.S. I was surprised to see Zoroaster dated so late- 500 B.C.E. He may have preceded even the Buddha by a mind blowing 1000 years! Perhaps he was the first to combine monotheism with ethics! Ah, to have a time machine!
Nice and clear video! I really like the explanation of how constructivism compares to sculpting. Now, to get it out of my system, there is a problem I have with constructivists and abstract artists and that is the meaning of mono paint "artworks" (like the pure series from 1921). No, I'm not attacking it for being somewhat pretentions... My point is that since colour is fairly subjective, a bending of light by physical science, a mono paintwork carries no meaning, no info (take it from the perspective of colour blind for instance). Contrary to the statement of "it is just colour", one could say no, it is not colour, it is nothing.
I am in love with color, so I do agree with you on one level. At the same, remember that these artists used pure hues of primary colors. For them, that was a way of treating color in its least variable, most scientific way. For aficianados of color -- like me, and I suspect you -- the subjectivity is part of its magic.
This is so fascinating! I want to know everything about this type of art. Everything!

The term "shaman" is not gender specific, shamans can be either male or female.

Soviet film and art were often fantastic, but Marxism can kick rocks.
Oh dear dear ! You art critics do overthink these things ! And seem to make up stories of what people think and do ! Utter crap !!
Brilliant and fascinating, thank you.

Too bad the Whites lost.
Great work!
Thank you for your very informative video.
Insightful and well presented. A truly original painter. Thank you for illuminating Lawrence's gift to humanity. Why no other comments?!

Beauty is the philosophical point for me, word and action are better to lament
What a fantastic lecture, thank you.

Hi. Where can I get this article?
Thank you for the lecture, and the channel! Can you please provide the bibliography for this one?
I will put that on my To-Do list. Thanks for the suggestion.

You did a great job describing it. I especially like the explanation of animation, 'giving life.' Thanks
