A very clever song. Nice picking on the bass and mandolin.
Thanks for listening!
This is amazing! Good job Jenna :)
Love it.
Perfect guitar and perfect voice👏👏👏 great song
Gorgeous guitar playing! Perfect for this song :)
Aww shucks. ;) Thanks!
Thankyou so much .I grew up in an Evangelical church and never learned to sing
So thankful you found it helpful - blessings upon your musical discipleship and may you sing joyfully and skillfully unto the Lord!
A lovely rendition of a classic
Thanks for listening!!
Awesome!
Thanks so much!
Very nicely done! Thank;you!
Thanks for listening!
Wow! This is so nice. :)
Thanks!!
Beautiful
Why hasn't this been covered by a grunge band (afaik)? This is Leadbelly but better.
Haha! Interesting - can’t say I’d have any expertise on that style but I’m sure it would be worth a try. We really like Bruce Molsky’s version, if you haven’t heard it (though it is very much in the same old-time vein).
Great job!
Thanks so much for listening!
Much Love
Thank you!
So hard to play and sing at the same time. I like the different style
Yes, especially on the fiddle, an instrument whose sonorities and range so closely resemble those of the human voice (and whose sound rings right into your left ear)... Such a beautiful sound, though. Keala is a hardworking and talented musician! Thanks for listening, as always.
So pretty!
Thank you so much!
These are fun actually
Thanks - we have a lot of fun with them, at any rate!
Add some writings so that we can also learn
I’d be more than happy to email you a pdf copy of any of the canons you’d like to learn, if helpful!
Wow, complex! Wonderful.
Thanks so much, I hope you sing it with your family as well!
Beautiful singing and canon, thank you!
The Singing Family, This made me so happy! I liked and subscribed!
Thanks so much for listening!
Beautiful 😊 Praise the Lord Almighty
Praise Him, indeed!
One of my favorites
Ours too!
How lovely to sing with your children! What a super little girl. Well done little one 😁
Thanks so much - it is an amazing gift to share music with children and to sing together as a family!
This made my morning. How beautiful!!! Precious!
Thanks for listening - I hope you had fun singing along!
Wow this one is so fun and lovely! Thank you!
Thanks!!
Thank you for the video. Is sheet music available for this? My family can read music, so the teaching session could just be handing over a piece of paper :-D
Oh, I just saw, "Supporters get access to PDF Sheet music of the canons". Okay, I'll write it out myself ;-)
Thanks for listening. I’m happy to share a pdf for this if you’d like - no need for you to transcribe it! We like to teach by ear as much as possible because, while written sheet music is obviously a very helpful tool and reference, we believe that learning by ear is a more efficient way to transfer music (or poetry or scripture) directly onto the tablets of our hearts. Our hope is that students will be able to memorize the music (and the passage of scripture) in the amount of time that it takes to watch the video. My experience has been that using sheet music as a reference can be very helpful, but it can also sometimes slow down the process of memorization. Either way, happy to share the pdf if you email me at Nate at thesingingfamily dot com. Thanks again and happy singing!
@@TheSingingFamilyChannel Right on! Literate musicians usually have a TERRIBLE time memorizing! Thank you for the offer, but I'm done transcribing now. Keep up the great work!
@@dartme18 got it - thanks again! Offer stands if you find another one or two that you think are worth singing. Just shoot me an email, happy to share the PDF!
Wow, one of my favorites, so beautiful! A perfect one for Easter.
Very glad you liked it and I hope you will all enjoy singing it together!
This is really helpful. Thank you all for putting the time and effort in to teaching us how to sing this hymn.
You are so welcome! Thanks for listening and I hope you've been able to sing this hymn with your family. Keep your eyes out for a lovely eastern hymn, O Sons and Daughters, which we'll be publishing this week!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Beautiful!
Thanks! Hope you enjoy singing it!
Good job friends!
Absolutely amazing! Did you write this?
Thank you! I hope that you enjoy singing it as well! If you haven't seen it, there is a teaching video on our channel as well that teaches the canon phrase-by-phrase. All of the canons on this channel are original compositions EXCEPT for the ones in the "Traditional Canons" playlist. Thanks again for listening.
We LOVE your content ❤
Thank you so much! I'm so thankful to hear that your family has found what we are doing helpful.
That's a good one. Thanks Sandi of Sing Thing Family Singing, Oakland CA 51 years of neighbors singing together.
Thanks for listening - that's a beautiful testimony to hear. 51 years is a long time to build a musical foundation as a community. I'd love to hear more about this group, and your work!
Just the perfect round for my 51 year old family singing group. I like the secular stuff best.
Thanks for listening! The other mother goose canons might be a good fit as well if you haven’t checked out all of them. We upload them weekly and they are organized by difficult to make it easier to structure your learning. Happy singing!
I sang this in high school (whatever happened to separation of church and state?). My parents weren't thrilled, but I enjoyed singing all kinds of songs including hymns.
Thanks for listening, I hope you found the video helpful!
Thanks for posting! I heard it with different wording; A man in the wilderness asked me how many red strawberries grow in the sea. I answered quickly as I thought best, As many as red herrings grow in a crows nest!
Thank you for listening! It is funny how many variations there are of nursery rhymes. I guess it shows how long and broadly they were shared orally before they were ever written down!
amazing
Thanks for listening!
And what is a scripture canon?
Excellent question! A canon could also be a called a 'round' - a type of composition where multiple voices sing the same melody at different times to create a layered harmonic / polyphonic texture. We have a brief video explaining it here: th-cam.com/video/QVsBK_K27YI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheSingingFamily
I'm a widow. Children are adults. I'm hoping to learn to read music and sing parts and lend my encouragement to my daughter and her family. I enjoyed listening to Silent Night. Yes, it should have been easier. Unfortunately, it wasn't. But maybe it will get that way soon.😊😅 Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Keep it up! As with anything, it gets easier with practice!
It was through a movie that I first grasped that concept--that some goals and purposes are multi-generational.
For example, 20 years ago, I would have understood Power In The Blood to be a Baptist hymn. As a young Episcopalian I heard it at a Baptist retreat. It appears Love Unknown began in the Anglican church. That doesn't really tell me where it is today. That you speak of generational is a big vision,
This is a wonderful concept, and a diligent effort. I have to ask from what church? It seems like it might make it easier for your potential watchers if you picked a song that was more widely known? But maybe it is well known in your arm of the church.? Thank you, I am enjoying listening, even though it's entirely unfamiliar to me..
Thank you so much for listening! We aren't affiliated with any church, but are aiming to provide resources for musical discipleship within the family and the local church, to help equip parents for the generational project of providing their children with a musical inheritance. I agree, we'd like to try to do some more familiar hymns as well, mixed in with some less familiar ones that we love. We're mainly focused on scripture canons right now, but we'll be doing hymns in this format at least once a month. Thanks so much for your feedback and I hope you'll keep singing with us!
This is beautiful! Thank you
Thanks Harriet! Maybe we can sing it together sometime!
So beautiful!!
Thanks! Look forward to singing with you guys next weekend!
Someone to teach how to download it
why is this in my recommend, who fucking gives a shit
Can't wait to show this to the kids. Their little minds will be blown haha
Get them started young! I hope these videos help your family as you sing together.
I liked when you song each harmony part in full, after the first practice of each harmony. Like you did in the video, oh come oh come Emmanuel. I can't wait to learn more harmony with you guys. Awesome harmony.🎉
I'm so glad you found the video format helpful! I'd be thankful for any feedback on how we could make these more helpful, as you sing through them and learn with us!
👍
