Pretty sure from memory the WIS (Mercedes Work Instruction) actually uses the compressor but it's a telescopic style. Not the little threaded rod style compressors that are prone to snapping. ;) These springs are pretty solid and I wouldn't want to try the little ones on them. I use a telescopic one to compress the new spring and get the angle correct for seating the spring when putting this back in.

I'm not a youtuber and simply posted to help others as there was very little info. on TH-cam about them. ;)

No problem. Matched springs from Mwrcedes parts to those fitted (colour coded) and all was well. Important to double check the spring part number then check again as dealers been known to make a mistake.

@@pmcgrorty colour code is correct but the back is well high...dealers don't know wat they doin...guess il have to live with a e250cdi that looks like a monster truck from the rear

@@boigoe I wouldn't live with it. If spring is correct can only be shim, spring top mount or rubber bush or incorrect assembly. Tell them to do the job again.

No. You have to remove the outter bots . Just losen the inner bots so the arm can move up and down. After putting the spring in correctly at the top, I used the jack to lift the lower arm which helped compress the spring and allowed me to put the shock, drop link and hub nuts and bots back on

​@@grindergrip in case anyone reads this 2 yrs after, this is incorrect. You can confirm with any Mercedes specialist, master tech, or foreman as I have. The inner bolt is removed along with shock & end link bolts. Arm then is gently lowered, spring removed, & reinstalled.

Just ask the dealer. They sell them along with the springs.

It should recognise a 2004 SL, I'd contact the supplier about this.

@@pmcgrorty l bought it Amazon - thankfully returned it and have complete refund l should have read the real “negative” appraisal of this bit of kit not the paid praise of it - l initially bought it thinking l was going to reprogram an ECU fat chance - Amazon took down my negative appraisal

Very difficult and not recommended. I wouldn't try it.

I had to replace mine a few months ago after watching this video. I didn't have a Spring compressor so I had to use a trolly jack. It worked perfectly fine as I used it to push from the bottom which caused the spring to compress and allow me to put the nuts and bots back on.

@@deth5619 you got to live on the edge sometimes 😂. Had to make do with what I had at the time and the spring would not go anywhere as it was obstructed by other components so wouldn't really fly out 🙏🏽

Yes, these can do a forced DPF regen.

Yes, 83mm pulley, lasted years. No idea how many times I floored it, not many. Simply replaced the bearing in the pulley.

@@pmcgrorty is the bearing the same on all pulleys or you gotta get 83mm specific?

Of course you can have it running. In fact for some tests the engine needs to be running.

Cheak fuse for car scaning. Also fuse to ODB

@@Mziry Fuses fine, if fuse open then the scan tool would not come on. Faulty scan tool.

Hi, Thanks for the comment. I have no idea why the iCarsfoft CR Pro does not work. Tried it on Mercedes (various models), Audi & Nissan. Link Error on the Mercedes always. On the Audi it would only detect the ECM, on the Nissan only the SRS system. Tried "Support" from iCarsoft who asked for Log files and sent new software. Still did not work. Have now given up on the unit as it simply does not work.

Did you send the unit back and ask for a replacement? Just incase the update had crap code in it .by the way like as I was considering buying one of this units, I believe they are on Facebook might be worth leaving a message

@@alan552 Sent back, new unit sent to me a few days later. Plugged in and workd out the box. This was what I was trying to explain to them that it appeared to be faulty.

No. Have been going back and forward with iCarsoft, doing updates, formating flash cards, doing updates, sending logs. Still no luck. Have now given up. Unit being returned next week.

Removed the handle, stripped it all down and replaced the micrswitches. Very fiddly.

It was straight forward yes.

Gas welded or electric? if electric the battery should have been disconnected.

electric mig welder, checked connections in the fuse box, bone dry, probably not a good idea but I've put a slightly stronger fuse and it seems to be working
