We hade a kid in our H.S. in '74 that had that exact car. His Dad was President of 1st National Bank in town so they had some money, but he was a good guy. I had bought a repossessed and minor wrecked (only the driver's side door and drivers' side front fender) '70 Mach I with the 351 Cleveland and a close ratio toploader and a 3.90:1 9 inch rearend. My HS best friend and I quickly replaced the door from a junkyard and banged out/bonod'ed the fender and painted them both with the help of another friend who had some paint skills. My Dad, who was an old Ford guy and a rocket Engineer at Cape Canaveral rebuilt (blue printed, including align bore) the engine and converted it to a solid lifter/cam engine and added an aluminum manifold, an 850 double pumper Holley with Hooker headers and a decent sized Isky cam and an Excel electronic ignition. We added traction bars and the biggest 60 series tire we could fit under the rear fender wells. The Cleveland Dyno'd at 525 HP. I raced the Cuda at our beach road 1/4 mile. He had trouble off the line and almost hit me but I managed to avoid him and went past him in 2nd gear. I beat him pretty soundly. We raced a second time and I gave a couple lengths lead so I could give him the whole road way to try and get a good start. I went by him again in 3rd gear.

I absolutely love how the little arm in the mechanism is like "why you! Get in there!"
