Help me choose which fabrics to destash at the Surrey Sews Swap (plus sewing plans and stash tour)
Join me for a tour of my fabric stash as I try to decide which fabrics to destash at the Surrey Sews Swap coming up soon. This is also an impromptu plans video as I tell you the sewing plans I have in mind for a lot of my fabrics (kind of as an excuse to keep them!). I used my Stash Hub (which is the sewing organiser app that my husband and I developed together) to check on my total meterage of fabric and help whittle it down. Let me know if you’ve got your eye on any of the fabrics I’m planning to destash. Hopefully see you at the event!

#SRTL2024 Plans: Recreating my engagement dress
มุมมอง 2084 หลายเดือนก่อน
I discovered this fabric when I was on a shopping trip to Goldhawk Road in London with my sewing friends from Surrey Sews. I was amazed because it is the exact same print as a ready-to-wear dress I used to own. I absolutely loved this dress and it was very special to me as I wore it for our engagement photos. Unfortunately, the original dress doesn’t fit me anymore, but thanks to the power of s...

looks amazing 🤩
Can’t wait!
Your upcycled dress looks fab! Short sleeves are super-cute. Was interesting to see the obstacles you came up against and how you solved them too!
Thank you! A realistic peek into the kind of saga that's behind most of my sewing projects haha!
Love this project 💖🧵💖 thanks for taking part in #sewupcycle24 x
Thank you! And thanks for hosting such an inspiring challenge - I'm so excited for reveal day! 😍
this is such a great upcycle Yvette!!!
Thank you 🥰
I adore how the dress turned out and it was a genius idea for the drawstring casing. I was interested to see how you did that, as that’s one technique I’ve never used before. Thank you for joining in our challenge again this year. Fab video! ❤ xx
That's why I love indie sewing patterns - you can learn so much from reading the instructions even if you don't get round to making that pattern. Great job hosting such an awesome challenge! 🥳
Absolutely brilliant upcycle, the dress looks fab 🤩
Thanks so much Claire 💕
Great upcycle, looks fab. 😍
Thank you 💕
LOVE the way the dress turned out! I think the shorter sleeves look super cute. Only because you asked: I feel like a black tie or a tie made out of the fabric would look a bit more cohesive, but that's just me. If you love the pink, stick with it. 🤗
Thanks! I agree with you, I might make a fabric tie anyway - it's easy to change.
Awesome!!!❤
😁❤️
Great work ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Love all thee information and your lovely examples!
It's such a great initiative! Plus a good excuse to make really cute dresses haha
The little girls are going to look adorable with these dresses 👗…..❤
Yesss! I really hope I get to see some pics of these ones arriving at their destination 😍
Ну замечательно! Умничка!!!😊
My fav is the plain blue dress w/ the flowered pockets & sleeves (9:36). My 2nd fav is the purple/lavender print with the solid purple pockets (13:00). 🥰 All are beautiful, so it was tough choosing.
Thank you! I hope the kids enjoy picking out their dresses ☺️
It's hard to pick a favorite with so many pretty choices but I really like the one from the orange butterfly fabric.
I love that one too!
I love the first dress the best. Orange butterflies ❤️❤️❤️
That one is so adorable 😍
The fabrics are all very lovely. I think maybe I'll give this pattern a try nexts year.
It comes together so quickly! Definitely a winner
I love that you can laugh at yourself-it was very cute! Lovely dresses.
Didn't notice how many times I said 'cute' until I edited the video 😂
Your dresses are all very cute. The girls who receive these will all feel quite special. I love how you combined fabrics. 😊
'Cute' is the keyword of this video after all 😂 I can't resist a contrast pocket!
The silk is gorgeous! I like that you're making a TNT pattern. I've sewn with silk before and it was actually relatively easy: the cutting out was the trickiest for me, a single layer of fabric is best, plenty of weights and a rotary cutter are helpful. As for sewing, I use lots of silk pins to keep the seams aligned and then the fine needle as you mentioned, also a higher presser foot pressure, and sew slowly and try not to backstitch or get too close to the edges where the fabric can get sucked into the feed dogs. Good luck! It will be a beautiful blouse!
Thank you! I'm actually wearing it right now! Really pleased with how it turned out 🎉

I loved the idea of the split dresses…so cute. Very imaginative when you run into a snag, you know make lemonade !
Thank you! I'm really pleased with the split ones, they turned out so cute! (Theme word of the video haha)
Lovely dresses.
Thank you so much! Planning to post them tomorrow. Hope I get to see where these ones end up ✨

A big thank you for the facebook link - I was unaware of it. Had a real moment of joy when I followed your link and saw a pic of a girl wearing one of the dresses I made last year. An unexpected reward that warmed my heart.
Oh yay that's incredible 😁 it's the best feeling!
I finished dress number 16 last night. I tried to use the cotton in my stash, but did break down and buy some new stuff. I tried several different patterns, hoping to find one that I thought was perfect. 😍 Yours are got. Blue is my favorite color so those are myfavorites ❤🧵
I'm an absolute fiend for blue fabric, most of my wardrobe is blue 😂 well done for making so many dresses!
I love how you put thought into each dress and made it unique and special. Kudos to you 💖👏
I had a BIG THINK about sewing in general thanks to this challenge! So exciting to be able to create something that helps little ones feel special 🙌
@@blossomsandwich4232 I agree! I thought I didn’t the skills until I started sewing these little girl dresses and the possibilities are becoming realities. 😁👗
Beautiful colors. Honestly love them all. Purple & batik’s are very beautiful ❤❤😊
Thank you! I couldn't choose a favourite, they all turned out lovely 😍
All of them are beautiful. I’ll go with #16. The blue with a gathered skirt.
I wish I made the skirt even more gathered but that's a lesson learned for next time! I'll certainly be making more little dresses!
Beautiful dresses and craftsmanship 👏 I love the last blue dress. Love the print.
Thank you 😁
Wow, Ivette, your dresses are beautiful and unique in every way 🤩 🤩 🤩. Isn’t it nice to see your dresses from last year went to Uganda, where is really needed? The peasant dress is a great and easy pattern to sew 👍. Thank you for the shout out 🙌🏻🙌🏻💖💖.
Yesss it's so special to imagine a little girl might be wearing a dress I made right now!
You’re dresses are beautiful! I really love that you reflected on how using your gift of sewing helps the girls. You’re so amazing.
Thank you so much for hosting this incredible challenge Mari! It's honestly the most meaningful thing I've done with my sewing skills. Excited to hear the final total of dresses donated at the end of the month!
Hmmm. The blue check is not for me. Looking forward to what to make with it
Such lovely dresses! It’s my first time taking part, my goal is 30 and I have done 20 complete. Only 10 to go 😝. My dresses are also mostly the same pattern as yours, but I’m looking for the last 10 at the tiered version. Will be 9/10 and 11/12 dresses. I will post mine ones soon to Jacqui too. Thank you for sharing your experience. 😊
Wow that's so many dresses! You're so generous with your time and sewing expertise 👏 good luck sewing up the last few!
I agree with all your thoughts. I’ve made loads of dresses, all styles, mostly bigger sizes up to age 10, from spring until now, not just September! I like your plain purple one, but they’re all great.
I feel like I said it so many times during the video, but they are such a great make in between bigger projects! Hopefully I can make even more next year 😁
Nice dresses. Such variety.
Thank you! I mostly bought 1m lengths of fabric in the Rainbow fabric sale so I had different designs to play with
I think you are right about how we pour our love into the things we make. It does make them extra special. I have been participating in PDAG for a few years now. It is actually a very fun challenge! I want to try that dress pattern next year. Happy sewing and thanks for the video!
What a lovely selection of fabrics and colours! I think my fave is the cobalt blue/ flower batik, that batik fabric is sooo pretty 😍 the wee girls are going to feel very special in them
Yesss I hope so! It's so exciting to imagine them receiving their new dresses!
I love the orange butterfly one! Well done for making so many ☺️
I got really into it! This pattern comes together so quickly
The fabric I bought online turned out to be a little sheer. I found some cheap fabric bolts on FB marketplace for sale that I'm going to pick up and hopefully they're not as sheer.
Ah that's a shame. Maybe you could use the sheer fabric for contrast pockets and sleeves like I did with the yellow?
This was such an enjoyable video, Yvette. I was especially touched by your thoughts on your reasons for sewing and sewing for this charity. “Cute” dresses! 😂
That fabric is absolutely stunning! I understand your nervousness about putting in buttonholes, but as long as you've interfaced the button band, you'll be set. Can't wait to see the finished garment!
Looking forward to seeing your silk sewn up Yvette!
Thank you! Just need to sew the buttons on now 🤩
Love your fabric and❤ good luck
Buttonholes were a pain in the bum last night but I'm nearly there...
That silk is stunning Yvette, can't wait to see it made up & great idea using a pattern that you know you love, fits well & you are comfortable sewing 👍
It would take me at least another year if I had to test out a new pattern first 😅 So close to finishing!
ooh, that fabric is going to make a beautiful Gilbert top. Look forward to seeing it!
If I were Gen Z, I might say that Gilbert top is GOAT 😂 Love a Gilbert and I think I'll be able to wear this a lot! 🎉
@@blossomsandwich4232 😂 it’s going to go with everything 😍
The silk material is beautfiul. Good luck working with the silk. I've never worked with silk so I'm no help. I'm sure you'll do great.
It honestly wasn't as tricky as I had imagined it to be! The worst part was that it loves to fray, so I decided to push the boat out and do French seams for everything. I think it's going to be good 😁
Man that fabric is amazing…. Can’t wait to see it made up! ❤
Project is going well so far. Just need to add the sleeves and do the buttonholes so hoping to finish it this weekend 🤞
Stunning fabric, its going to look amazing. Have you read the book big dress energy, really interesting on the psychology of clothing, really interesting
I haven't read it but I've heard it mentioned by lots of people. I'll have to check it out!
Your fabrics are beautiful
Thank you! 😊
So pretty
I love how twirly it is 😍😍
