James Macavoy is the man. Splits gotta be number one but he’s perfect as professor x regardless of the quality of the X-men films.

Oh, I'll stream it when it comes up. Wrong reasons, all the way. Swinging from 'Beautifully shot, cool setup' to 'Oh God the dialogue, terrible reveal'? Sounds like she's inherited her father's directing energy and that's been a guilty pleasure of mine for years.

Shame this movie didn't pan out. I was excited to see a new horror movie and the promotional material was intriguing.

Oh, I loved the original and it's a regular (every couple of years) rewatch. I was still a little worried at the first trailer we had, but this one is starting to get me hyped. Nice review I have some of the same questions you did, and you brought up some stuff I hadn't thought of yet.

I just got out of the cinema. I think all the actors were superlative. Especially Kirsten Dunce. No, for the movie to start explaining every situation would invite excessive exposition. This, I believe sticks to what being in a war would be like, no answers half the time. I think it’s essential viewing.

If he'd explored that other stuff, it would have been a different movie. You wanted him to make a different movie. I think eventually you'll get your head around to the movie he made was very good. It just wasn't the movie you expected going in. What would we have seen learning more about Jesse Plemons character? How he got to the point where he murdered a dump truck full of civilians (including women and youth)? I guess I'd use Apocalypse Now as a reference point. What good would it do to spend a bunch of time learning about the people they meet along the way? Well we COULD have done that, but then it would have been a very different movie.

Unfortunately monkey man is not releasing in India 😢

Great review, dude. I agree the biggest problem is that there were WAY too many characters, and you said it perfectly, they either had too much or too little to do. I mentioned some of the same things you did on my channel as well.

You're way more considerate than me, because I laughed in the theater a few times. This movie was TERRIBLE. I totally agree with you on the jump scares, I forgot to mention those on my channel. One is too many, and I counted at least 4.

Great list! I completely agree that Oppenheimer should be at #1 and that is also my prediction for best picture. Especially given the importance of the film. I ended up enjoying all of the movies even though Maestro is the only one missing from my watchlist.

I hadn't heard great things about this movie, but I appreciate the thought-out reasons why it's not very good. I'll look up the Miley Cyrus thing though!

The Oscar routinely ignore some very deserving films sometimes because they're released too late in the year (All of Us Strangers) or because they're too edgy (Saltburn). This year, however, I completely pardon them because 2023 was such a lively year for movies, that they simply couldn't make too many people happy.

This movie is horrifically bad. The shaky camera wasn't good. The Blood CGI was bad as well. I don't like the new Cast members. If this movie comes out on Mnet, I would pass it.

I thought this was a bummer of a way to end the DCEU. Not only was it kinda boring but I thought the acting and dialogue was just bad! They also ruined Black Manta by adding that ridiculous “bigger threat” over his motivations. I did not like this one very much at all, unfortunately. A nice review. I'm happy because youtube recommended your channel. And about the movie. I think is best movie from Ghibli, yes the movies has some problem like is feel we need 20 minutes in plus , but we have a such beautiful world created with a lots of meanings.

This movie absolutely blew me away! Not only was the Godzilla action sequences incredibly intense and suspenseful while being a spectacle of fun, but the characters they developed in the story were actually enjoyable and well fleshed out. I was enthralled the entire time. It is one of my favourites of the year! Great review, and keep up the great content, Pat 👍.

I enjoyed the trailer but my sour note from it was that I thought I knew where the story line was going, and it's somewhere I've been enough. As you say they were innovative in that area, I'll put up with some tonal inconsistency at the beginning. Imagine I'll be watching it, nice review, and my favorite satirical film is "Life of Brian". Cheers.

Yeah, historical drama is never going to be 100% accurate, because it's got drama to service as well as the history, and sometimes to be a good historical drama you have to mess with the history a bit to just improve something like the pacing, but we know when the historical stew is thin and we know when it's meaty. Napoleon's stew was pretty weak. Nice review.

Terrible movie. Just crap.

I was so excited for this movie and to me it was the biggest let down of the year. Aside from good performances and some great battle sequences (which were too far and few between), I thought the way they told the story was a mess. I felt no attachments, I got confused as to what was happening, and at its 2hr 40min runtime it dragged a lot. Unfortunately wasn’t the movie for me. Great review, Pat. Keep making great content 👍

Payne's short film contribution to Je t'aime Paris is actually my favorite then Sideways, Election and The Decsendents. I loved the 3 main actors but I also enjoy Carrie Preston as one of the prep school administrative staffer. Great cinematography. Great 70's feel to it (like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Nice Guys.)

“Will it work, no but it will sell” is the perfect way to describe this film

While I didn’t flat out love this movie, mostly from it being too long in my opinion. This was still a great movie. Loved the performances, especially DiCaprio and Gladstone, and the build up to the investigation (again, even if it took a little too much time to get there). I will not be surprised to see this win Oscars. And I think it certainly deserves to. Great review, Pat!

Fair review. The film is so badly made. Stallone is in it for 15mins. The green screen was atrocious . Megan fox and 50 cent being in it was the kiss of death. Megan replacing sly as team leader for seemingly no reason , she wears a flak jacket to her belly button. Laughable crap movie. Statham was the best thing in it by far. Shaky cam , awful FX. A true stinker. Franchise nail in the coffin now. They cant come back from this. Its so bad it made 3 look good.
