    Back story on this~ An older gentleman who lived 10 minutes away from me, has this sitting in his house. When he bought it, he rode it to the apple orchard back then and rode it back and said to himself “I’m going to put this in my house and never ride it cause it’s too cool”. So it’s been sitting in his house for 30+ years. Came with the original manual, bubble tires are like new(all hold air, no patches, no cracks), still has the tape ontop of the pull start handle!

    • @rakowsrebuilds
      @rakowsrebuilds 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since this is an 86. The breaks are on the handlebars (front and rear). But with this motor being a manual, I didn’t put in the front breaks, and just had the rear breaks hooked up along with the clutch lever.

    Sweet build and great video, I may have to pick up one of those Honda hats too! With that Mikuni VM26-606 carb the "choke" is more of an enrichment plunger so you are doing it right by raising the idle speed when cold. Basically, turn idle screw up 1/4 - 1/2 turn, pull with the choke on until it just fires. (1-2 pulls) then close the choke plunger immediately. Once warmed up return idle screw back to where it was. I find the stock VM26 jetting (21.5 Pilot, 190 main) too rich for even my built up 150cc motor. You will likely see a lot of black soot buildup on the base threads of your spark plug indicating this. Try a 175 - 180 main jet on the 140cc and if you have an off throttle bog (very likely) dropping to a 18.5 pilot will greatly help to lean out the transition carb circuit improving the part throttle response. This is why you are able to start without the "choke" and only raising the idle screw as the low speed pilot jet is so rich. A smaller pilot jet will also lean out the idle circuit a little bit which is fine as you can see the overly rich black smoke exiting the muffler when revving with the stock carb jetting. Just note with a smaller pilot jet you will likely need a quick hit of the choke plunger to get fired but overall engine performance should be more responsive and the spark plug will not get so black.

    Wow! Love the black and metallic green colors. Definitely a labor of love building up these vintage Hondas. I have a couple CT70s and a couple ATC70s I have built up and always wanted a 150cc TRX70 to go with them. However I find I can't hardly fit my feet on the TRX70 between the front and rear fenders. The singe front wheel on the ATC helps a bunch with fitting adult sized riders on these little Hondas. What are your future motor plans for this one?

    • @rakowsrebuilds
      @rakowsrebuilds 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one will be staying a stock 70cc. I build it for my dads buddies and he gave it to his kid for his birthday. I do have a video of my own 86 TRX70 that I built with a 140cc motor in it! Check it out.

    • @doubleg1328
      @doubleg1328 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense. When he wants a little more I recommend a semi-auto Piranha 90cc. Its cheap and has a lot more torque for getting adults up to speed without being over powering. I will check it out the video of your 140cc TRX for sure. I have a couple videos posted of my red ATC70 with a built up Semi-auto 114cc kit that still impresses me how strong it runs. Have not posted a video yet of my orange ATC70 with a built up, cammed, ported, etc 150cc Piranha motor. Its a beast on the sand dunes to the point it feels like it wants to kill you or wheelie over backwards each time you get on the throttle. The power band is violent and comes on like a switch. Tiring to ride but fun. The 114cc really is the sweet spot as it has such a smooth power band your mother could ride it. Good 3 gear power wheelie torque and endless topend it really is the most fun to ride. ☺
