Discussion „Can we recognize intelligent life in the Universe?“
มุมมอง 126ปีที่แล้ว
Watch Nobel Laureate and astrophysicist, Michel Mayor, and astrophysicist and founder of Starmus festival, Garik Israelian, in conversation with science popularizer, David Eicher, talking about the potential for discovering intelligent life outside of our own planet, solar system and galaxy. How far along are we from encountering intelligent life? What should we do when we encounter it? Should ...

Thats is a very impress stage. Great listen and great interview
Wow, two of the most brilliant minds in one room. I absolutely love this stuff.
Amazing that this is free
Such a great interview
❤
What A Great Kip ? !
Oof... all that stuff about the scientific answers to the pandemic didn't age well, huh?
#esestsienceaward I am from India. I am filled with joy listening to Prof. Brian Cox. Hearty congratulations to your channel and both the veterans.
His book of fractional differential equations is excellent, I’ve been using it to teach my self the fractional calculus, thanks Igor for such a master piece
Ye can't solve evolution
Please excuse my ignorance. Why wouldn't the gravitational waves from the big bang have already passed by, making them no longer detectable?
If it were a perfect world and the smartest people that contribute the most to society were the ones that got paid what they're worth, they , along with many others, would be the wealthiest people on the planet, and it would be a totally different and much better world.
You understand both of these guys are rich, yes?
Ha! The Kardashians command more status then these two combined! Jeez, maybe our culture stinks. Just take a quick look on how the money Helicoptered by the fiscal folks and the Fed. The next bail out may be the last. Yet, very few seem to care.
A huge thanks for not playing background music while the conversation took place, but the lighting was so distracting, I couldn't watch. Who thinks these things up?
Honest answer is no spinning from my view same time chaos of multiple path choices as in with signature of a constant travel is a possibility but destruction of matter to base level is inevitable
Look said this before the particles duality moving identically miles apart we should hit them with every spectrum of visibility magnetism all we can to see if 2 are actually 1 instantly transported see reach explore if we wrong my bad move on but try again
My take is science now a fav subject and using it along with logical conclusion creative writing or communication we can break down every problem we face so yes everything is science now we need to learn
Science has the keys to almost all the solutions needed in the world today, from energy sustainability to feeding the whole world population, but the last key, the most important one is political willingness to do it all and that one is in the pockets of inefficient and corrupt idiots.
Change the game
This is like quantum entanglement between two people, the corelation of knowledge and experience permeates the atmosphere. Age knows no bounds.
eh he
Renata, úžasné. Som hrdá, že mám takú spolužiačku!!! Emi
Kip, the student of Stephen Hawking, is such a great humble man who has his brain very illuminating life for others. I love you great man. I wish I had the honor to see you.
Masked don’t work lockdowns don’t work so everything you stated in the beginning is wrong
"We've learned to fly the air like birds. We've learned to swim the seas like fish. And yet we haven't learned to walk the earth like brothers and sisters." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
:)
What a joy and honor to be alive in the same time as these two giants. My head hurts trying to understand but i find the subject very interesting.
Rumor has it that the Kippster says "arrrpt" while getting a happy ending
Disappointed in the answer to that first question. Science is not a body of knowledge. Science is a tool, nothing more or less. You would never ask if a hammer was the answer to every problem. Science unlocks knowledge that we then use to solve problems. If you don't understand a problem then you'll only solve it by sheer luck.
Hi Kip..How are you? What Amplitude, Intensity, Polarization, Phase, Spatial and Temporal Duration did the Gravity Wave Packet detectsble at LIGO have at 6:26 o'Clock, German Time: Marvelous Devilistic Attempts to derail my inclination away from Science, Beauty and Belief here; thereby accelerating the Universe's Collapse. Hahaha.دعواتك معنا يا ءاستاذ نظرية موجات الجاذبية.. Greetings to Frances Arnold, Joe Anne, retired Helen Tuck, retired John Schwarz; my Japanese young Hero Hirosi Ooguri, Chemists Rudi Marcus and Gray, Mathematical Physicist Barry Simon, your Colleague Asttophysicist James Blandford at Stanford [notice Rhyme here], your friend - and mine too - Igor Novikov. Is Ava Helen - the Widow of Linus Puling still around and alive? What about their Children. Would you do me a favor, Kip and Joe Anne? 1. Science is the answer to everything... See how the Catholic church sex ban has created a culture of pedophilia. It was just wrong to try to make humans chaste, they CREATED a problem that didn't have to exist. Science will tell us how far we can go before people break, so we can create a society where people get to live happy lives, without the need to destroy or harm other people. Only problem is whatever we can get religious and other challenged people listen, but in time science will tell us how to do that too. Putin seems to think that "western science" is destroying Russia, but it's Putin destroying Russia. Religion claim science is destroying it, but in reality it's religion destroying it self. And on the list goes of idiots running straight into the brick wall of science then claim the wall jumped them and beat them up, I'm sure some would like to destroy Russia or religion, but I doubt most of us can be bothered as long as they don't harm others.
Diet is far more effective at protecting us from COVID-19 than any vaccine out there. Baffles me that so many people put so much faith in a Medical system who's main priority is to profit as apposed to preserving human life. It would benefit mankind far more not to need a doctor in the first place which would be possible in most cases if more people concerned themselves with diet and health. I've met more people than I have felt comfortable with that claim their health has never been the same since taking the vaccine/booster shots, and I've met more people than I am comfortable with that have lost a loved one due to health complications soon after their loved one had taken the vaccine/booster shot. Sorry but I'll take my chances with a healthy diet and natural immune system!
So boring..
Science is not the answer to everything , not yet until the human mind can understand quantum mechanics fully and beyond. The pale blue dot(Carl Sagan)role in the universe is the biggest enigma sentients need to confront. Hoping that humans wouldn’t stop their curiosities and creativities no matter how long it takes. This is our future. Thank you both.
what a load of bull.nothing there that we we dont know
Perhaps our universe is currently sitting in the expansion of a huge gravitational wave length.
Kip, answers "I don't know" to several of Brian's initial questions. He then admits how often he has been wrong (as does Brian) yet both go on to more or less explain everything we wanted to know. Both humbling and wonderful in equal measure.
So true
that answer "maybe" is acceptance of limitation of our scientific knowledge and discoveries. but yes science is helpful in understanding nature, reality. not yet of human behavior, otherwise science could manipulate criminals in prisons to make them good people.
I think black holes were there before the big bang and as the edge of the universe travels past the black holes the black holes collect mater or material from the edge as it travels past and that also explains why all the galaxies are moving away from each other?? , That's my theory anyway!!
I have a good feeling just by listening to them and reading comments here. I love this kind of audience.
I love what Kip says in the 55 seconds starting at 4:50.
Is it possible that the universe expands then dies and all the suns become black holes eventually. Then they all Swallow each other. Then compress down into a point where it all explodes with a new Big Bang. And it all starts again?
This talk, also brought to you by Pfizer. It's a pity when scientists don't question scienceketing. Mission accomplished, we're all nutcases now.
Why does he say “aihait” on every conversational pause here?
Kip Thorne IS NOT A HUMAN Being 4SURE!!!tt Even the stage set up is specifically setup for holographic production... R u kidding, speech impediment CGI Watched him on World Science Festival with a dope ass graphics My ? is Y
Science worship is not wisdom, and all this science fiction fantasy is just that...FICTION. They should concentrate on giving everyone clean water first, and quit geo engineering the climate for weather control, then they can lecture us about their fictional dreams.
Interesting and valuable people (and speech) of course, but I'm kinda tired of provocative questions. We have been blinded by our beliefs in technological advances for long enough to act like this was a debate. Science isn't an answer to everything and you can see it more and more as the time goes by and burry our hopes for a desirable future.
If science isn't the solution? We've had it. Because everything else we come up with is wild guessing... And good luck with that. Science may be flawed, it may get it wrong but it is absolutely the best we're got. Trying to decipher the human mind to take into account all human beings is, in my opinion, a useless endeavour. I mean, it sounds good but with the constant changing of our dna and variations that produces I wonder if we could ever 'catch up' with it. Since Freud, and maybe before, we have convinced ourselves that this is obtainable. Maybe it is not. And if we did actually obtain it, what would we do with it? Would we use it for the betterment of all or just to manipulate the general population to service the elites? I'm thinking the latter. The simple problem we face, as a race of existing, conscious beings is for how long can we pull this off? If you believe in god or life after death, well, you've got the solution then. But for atheists, this is all we have. This life. This existence. And yes, many of us decide to suicide. But many of us don't. Getting off this planet. Going to a new solar system. Creating opportunities for human consciousness to continue. That must be the goal. Otherwise we're all going to sit here, love each other, kill each other, argue with each other, agree with each other and, penultimately, the human race will die here. If the only reason for our existence is to exist? Then I say we must strive to continue that existence. And if the universe will, penultimately, turn to energy and no matter will exist then I feel that truth just makes our continued existence more prominent. Our existence and our continued existence is paramount - and if for no other reason? It is all we have. It is all we can really do. And so we should do it.
another typical arrogant scientist who thinks science is the best source for answers.
I am so glad I watched this.i tried to understand it but unfortunately I didn’t!!! It ..was the best thing I’ve watched it ages .... Two amazing men who we should be proud of ...
