Hi friend, I'm speaking to you from Chile. You're the only one who can help me with your experience. I have an Aprilia RXV 450, I got it recently, I was able to change the oil with your tutorial, I have a problem, the oil is coming out of the engine box, the hose that goes to the intake filter. Do you have any idea why this could be? I have the oil levels correct and all the hoses are leak-free. It's as if the engine is expelling oil. Please guide me. Regards.
1. Definitely follow the torque specs for all oil change components 2. Lean over the motorcycle and fill the oil filter housing with oil(don’t lose the spring!), then tighten up the oil filter cover to 18.44 ft lbs. over or under tightening will lead to oil leaks. If you don’t fill the filter housing with oil air can get trapped behind the filter causing ejection of the oil filter cap and oil puking all over your boot.
hi there im working on one of these rxv450 aprilia things. whats the other 19mm drain plug on bottom of the engine as well as theres another black oil filler cap between the exhaust and the water pump do these engines have two separate oils in the motor and gearbox. i only got about 600ml out of that part of the engine. this bike wont start it has spark but wont even fire on aerostart just popping out one muffler. i suspect the valves are riding or the stupid de compression system that these have. and its only done 2,600 klms also starter motor wont spin motor very fast even with a car battery connected to it. any ideas
Hey mate, plug on left is engine right is gearbox and refill other side as you stated near exhaust and waterpump to the left near brake leaver is a plugeye you take out until the oil bleeds out, sounds like you didn’t drain the oil reserve tank for engine between radiators,as for not starting where do you start! I have up graded my stator, starter new sprag clutch and she still gives me grief mainly winter time, but when its going it don’t stop, there can be so many reasons it doesn’t start even down to throttle position,
I'm pretty sure it is mate, as long as you know you have put 1250 ml no less it should be fine. I put 1300 ml in mine to be safe. Start at 1300 with the 550 and top up checking the site tube. Don't pay any attention to the site tube when the engines cold, warm it up for 5 give it 5min to settle then check,if you can't see the oil do it outside, different light angles help. In my shed I see nothing but shadows, but outside with the sun facing the rear of the bike you can see the oil clearly well clear enough to know that's it. The site tubes are a dick move by aprillia.

Well what the feck cap did I remove from the other side...
Trans filler hole. It uses 75w-90 ester trans fluid
