Hi Goldsack, how does ypur strategy play out if you play Global Europe and pacific?
I remember this toy...! I had one of these!
Brilliant strategy and know I am late to the party -- one thing, I don't think you can build "major" factories in territories you capture, eg Korea only a minor factory can be built there ...as you kept talking about placing 10 American units in Northern china, it's really not possible.
I played this with my Grandma growing up in the early 2000’s we still have the original board and all the pieces! We loved playing this game and I’ll never forget the fond memories we had playing it! This game should come back! 😢
Woww great gameplay love your channel and great game
Thank you!
Hearts of Iron before Hearts of Iron
It seems like 34 years later this game is still relevant, I wish I could play it myself
Really cool additions. I'll have to look into making them myself for my copy
its
I only have 3. But wish i could have found more. Nowadays it was so expensive to own it.
You can download .pdf files for free though. Do a quick google search and they pop up. I realise it's not quite the same as owning the actual book.
Hello. I see that they give you the terrestrial general at the beginning of the game. I have a question about this. What happens to the troops if the ground general is eliminated? Would they be unable to attack land territories or can they continue to do so?
You can still attack land territories without a ground general. However you would not be able to buy or use land command cards. This is unlike the lunar and marine generals. You MUST have a lunar general to attack on the moon and you MUST have a marine commander to attack water spaces.
In the video I messed this up. I am glad you caught this thanks.
Thanks for this series.
Thanks for watching!
Great stuff, Goldsack. At some point on BGG, I had subscribed to Dark Cults. Just now discovering your video. Thanks.
Thanks!
This is better than monopoly 😊
Nice! I don't remember all the cards and coins/ability to double up same areas but really liked this game long ago when playing it :) is teh modern "reprint" the same rules or has there been changes?
I think the rules are the same. I noticed a few differences in the event cards however.
Love this game!
This game gives off a truly uncanny energy. For those with a true interest in the occult, the deck can even be used for other "practices."
Why did the Mauryans get control of India when there was still a blue unit in the Hindu Kush? Maybe I'm seeing it wrong
Yep. You are correct. Thanks for the correction! That's -3 points for Green. I will make the score adjustment official in part 2. I will give you a shout out. The best part about posting videos is the feedback. Thanks Again!
Love this game.
I employ the same strategy no matter the version of A and A. All these games have the setup with the Axis having a bunch of shiny units but a huge potential of getting overextended. So avoid that, build your economic base and preserve those shiny units until you can win and hold what you gain.
Karmic there is that word again 😵
Sub-stalling makes this game a lot more interesting, actually. Especially if both players are aware of it and know how to use it/defend against it.
Is that really the 1991 edition? I thought they didn't come out with plastic pieces until the late 90s.
Ya it's '91. When I opened my box to do this review, I noticed some of the rubber bands I used on the cards had dried out and crumbled almost to dust. So that's how I know my set is old!
Love the idea of using Risk 2210 pieces to add a 9th epoch!
Thanks!
This is one of my favorite games. Definitely can use lots of adjustments from the original bare bones concept. One of my favorites was to allow empire to reactivate at the beginning of every Epoch to create a bit more of a feeling of empires tapering off into lesser versions of themselves rather than vanishing as viable powers.
Just like you, Zombies!! in my opinion is one of my top on its genere, I know that because it is a very old game many of its mechanics have become obsolete compared to more recent board games, but in my group of friends it is one of the games that we enjoy the most for its art, miniatures and in general for fun, also we can play more than 6 player, sometimes 8 or 9 players your limit is the player pawns xD. Excellent recommendations, I have not tried "mods" because I don't like to put "non-canon" elements or pieces to the games but your recomendatios look interesting. Over time I realize the shortcomings of the game, I apply the following rules that I have taken from forums recommendations: 1. In the zombie movement phase must be move in the direction of a player (to avoid removing zombies at convenience). 2. When the heliport tile appears, if someone d13s they appear in the nearest building in a space where there are no zombies, if the building is full of zombies the next one and so on, otherwise if Town Squre tile is closer this rule is overridden (to avoid "su1c1d3s" at convenience to appear on Town Square tile for the purpose of approaching the heliport). 3. When the helipad tile appears, the "reshuffle discard pile to Event deck" rule stops and event cards are used until the Event deck is exhausted. Another suggestions are change the rule of the dice roll in the Player movement or Zombies movement and make it become a fixed move up to 3, but for my game groups this makes it lose essence of the game. I will explore your suggestion to "max hand cards 1 or 2" and get the item/weapon cards in the respective building. There are objects/weapons that are always discarded in the games because sometimes it is not worth waiting or move to the building tile and that item card always becomes a brick in the hand (Chainsaw, Molotob cocktail and Granade, rarely has been used or never always are discarted to get better cards :/), so there are buildings that have more than 1 weapon/items, maybe adding a rule that when your enter in a build once per turn also if you are in a space free of a Zombie select weapon/item that card indicates the builing you need roll a dice, in a 4,5,6 result you get it, the game lets you repeat equip weapon/items as you let to use it (except for combat, there you can use only 1), but to avoid spaming all weapon/item as possible that rule don't apply and you can't repeat holding weapon/item
I had this game. I remember Conchita Peter eater strikes again lose 2 turns 😂😂😂
Awesome overview! Thanks! Questions: 1. What combinations of your top 5 mods do you like to use in a given game? I'm assuming that some might not work well together as they combine multiple possible victory conditions/objectives and create confusion (e.g. Regalia and Tenka)? 2. Do you have a link for the battle board with cavalry class shown at 16:50? 3. Your thoughts on permanently fortified provinces? And if you use them, in combination with what other mods? Thanks again!
Thank you for the response. 1.You are correct. Never try to overplay the mods. Usually I present the options to the group and we decide by committee. Recently it's been strategy cards with Tenka. The game before that it was cavalry with terrain map. I remember one game we just played Regalia and I thought it was fun. 2.I can't find my file at the moment! I hope I didn't delete it. It might be on a thumb drive somewhere. I will have to look for it. If I find it I will upload it to BGG. 3.The terrain map and fortification mods I find are harder to get to the table. Recently I've been playing with casual gamers and they really don't care too much about strategy and odds they are more about just rolling some dice and pushing pieces -around which is fine too. Like you suggested before ,I suggest picking one or two mods per game. MIx and match combo's. You'll want to play more games that way! Thanks again.
I graduated from high school in 1986 so this was a fun watch. I was a punk in a small town in the Midwest US.
What website did you use for this?
basic google search "TripleA" and it should come right up.
Looking forward to your mods or house rules video
Great video could you do one from the Japanese perspective as well?
I also noticed at 42:55 you moved three spaces with your navy I thought the rule was could only move 3 with the naval base if it was on the noncombat move and your side controlled the naval bases at the starting and ending location? Just trying to clarify for my own understanding of the rule for when I play.
Thank You! Yes I will do another strategy video eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
@@abeberkley-vigil4116 You are right. This is another difference between the official rules and the TripleA setup. The official rules would not allow for the third movement. The Japanese might have survived another turn if this game were played according to the book.
@@goldsack7919 Thank you for responding and really appreciate you doing this. I have had this game for about 20 years and only recently have found a group open to getting into it. I never knew it was on TripleA, and have only played solo against myself. I appreciate the content on this game because it is hard to find.
I lived out in the country and it was so dark I would make up my own lyrics and sing all the way home.😂
I played this in high school 😂
The new game bias is VERY real. I expected more from board game nerds lol.
I have one of the later releases of it for sale. Its in fantastic condition.
Played for years! Looks like some of your cards were from scans from my website devoted to the game. Nice job!
Kind of cool idea, but maybe you can put a way for us to know what the conputer and you're saying. Reading the text is far.
Tengo una modificación del maletín de armas secreta, todos tienen uno al azar y se puede usar una vez en el juego
The classic Axis and Allies Milton Bradley game was clunky and somewhat broken, especially if playing with veteran players. The game can be fixed by using a handful of house rules. These rules balance the game, while still keeping the Allies the stronger faction as they were historically and also these rules can make the game somewhat more historical. Try these rules: 1. Always play with the Russia Restricted rule. 2. Move the factory and AA gun from Karelia to Caucus. 3. Aerial units can only attack submarines when friendly naval units are engaged in the battle. 4. Both Axis countries can place a free factory and AA gun before the start of the game. 5. Neutral nations can never be attacked, moved through or occupied.
Awesome video. Also love Samurai Swords as a system and have played it for many years. Have a group meeting up tomorrow to play... I love introducing it to some new players and seeing the way all the thematic elements mesh "click" into place. Especially 5 players, has a great "knife fight in a phone booth" vibe. Loved hearing about some of those variants, especially the map related ones. May have to try some of them out some day... Thank you for sharing!
Thanks!
I played this game when I was a kid
Sweet!
I have it for sale on Facebook marketplace.
All time favorite game books, the humor was *chef's kiss*
his vision was to enjoy the drugs at the time, witch was marijuana, cocaine, and other recreational drugs as such, it was for inlighten human beings, those that were unafraid of trying something different
I have this for sale on Facebook marketplace.
Great video! I have all of the original MB games, and still enjoy them to this day. Shogun is our favorite. But I always liked Conquest for the theme. Do you have links for the alternative rules and some of the PDF? I know it's been a few years, but I just stumbled upon you today. Cheers!
Thanks! Search Conquest of the Empire 1984 at boardgamegeek.com. Go to the file section. Click on Conquest of the Empire Variants 1.1 for the pdf. You will find a lot of other interesting expansion ideas in other downloadable files. I tried to post a direct link. but it did not work for some reason.
@@goldsack7919 awesome!! Thanks so much!!!
Talk about other grail quest books. I had them somehow in Australia. I managed to collect 5 or 6 for a 2nd hand bookshop in the 90s. One by one I went back and found more. I’ve never spoken with anyone that knows them. So it is cool to hear about the quality holding up and how the gameplay is. I never played them but loved the writing and reading all the options. The imagination and humour. And the illustrations and maps were awesome. The homers odyssey one, 4, was. A favourite. I would love to see rarer ones too. Cool to know the story on the missing ones I never found. I will try to get them and play through at least one some time.
I hope to get around to reviewing more of them. I did 1 and 2 so far. If the 2nd video can get around 100 views it might be time for book 3! Thanks for watching.
Thanks! I posted some comments on the BBG site (where one can watch this without annoying commercials!) Well done!
I know this is a year old but have you ever played the Total War computer game Shogun or the better versions Shogun 2? As n avid Shogun player back in the day it had many similarities and is a great game for a computer game.
I haven't played them unfortunately. I want to. But I remember playing Lords of the Rising Sun by Cinema-ware on the Commodore Amiga!
Truly the dark souls 2 of axis and allies
I can't find this Wogan guy on BGG. Can you link it for us?
