Oppose The South Australian Bowhunting Ban
ALL ARCHERS SHOULD CARE ABOUT THIS CONVERSATION!
Why? If you google "45th Report Inquiry into Issues Related to Bow and Crossbow Hunting in South Australia.pdf," you will find the parliamentary review with recommendations, or you can find it at www.parliament.sa.gov.au/committees/SDC.
Some of the recommendations are as follows:
1) Online purchase of archery equipment restricted, including from interstate and overseas (1.2) - What impact will this have on most target archers? What will this do to local pricing and availability?
2) You will need to be over 18 to buy archery equipment (1.3).
3) You will need to be a member of a club to buy archery equipment (1.4). I was 9 when I got my first bow and was NOT a member of a club. How many kids or new entrants to this sport will this exclude if they do not want to initially join through a club?
4) Resale of equipment through a SAPOL-approved retailer (1.5/1.6) - I'm sure many of us have bought and sold through FB groups!
The restrictions mentioned above and the cost to implement many of these will drive prices and availability in the wrong direction. It will add barriers to entry and affect our sport at the grassroots level. This feeds into high performance, which ultimately aids in the funding of our great sport.
Some of the bowhunting specific recommendations (e.g., proficiency testing, increased penalties for doing the wrong thing, data collection and reporting, development of a code of practice) all sound reasonable to maintain standards and community acceptance of a regulated bowhunting community. It would certainly be a more acceptable approach compared to an outright ban!

    My bear legit right from the shop shoots great but there's a small gap between the draw weight adjustment on one side and the other no gap it's all the way screwed down??? Should i tighten the other side all the way down??

    • @xerot14
      @xerot14 หลายเดือนก่อน

      By "side" I'm guessing you mean the limb bolts (top and bottom), adjusting these will increase or decrease your peak draw weight (if you loosen it, it will make it easier to draw the bow, tighten it and it'll become harder to draw). Both limbs must be tightened to the same degree, otherwise you risk damaging your bow, or getting injured. I highly suggest you tighten both sides completely flush to the limb. You never should shoot a bow with what you just described. Once both sides, or limb bolts are fully tightened (this will increase draw weight, i.e. difficulty pulling the string back), you can then decrease the weight (or difficulty to draw) by using an Allen wrench. Try fully tightening both sides, then use an Allen wrench to loosen each side by 1 full turn. So loosen the top limb bolt 1 full turn, then the bottom 1 full turn, then the top again, then the bottom. You need to go back and forth because the bow is under a lot of stress, so you must keep the stress equal, otherwise you risk damaging your bow or getting hurt. Also, look into how many turns you can do for your bow's limb bolts, if you do too many your bow will pretty much explode and you can get hurt. If you fully tighten the limb bolts, you should be fine with them loosening each side by 3 turns (but do 1 turn per side, then switch, repeat until both sides have equal turns) Keeping the bow in equilibrium with the stresses it's under will significantly improve it's longevity. Also make sure your draw lengths on the top and bottom cams are the same!

    Hey guys I'm thinking of getting the Modulus, we're just finishing our first coaching and about to join a local club here in Wales and get first gear etc. Shooting 25 pound bow still at the minute, would you recommend the Modulus or Modulus Lite? Also for the ring spacer my measurement is coming in at 73.5mm which would be a size 22 on their website, but I have read a comment suggesting to go a size lower as the ring does stretch over time, but a bit concerned this wouldn't fit at all. Any recommendations would be great, thanks!!

    • @ElizaArchery
      @ElizaArchery 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have a look at the modulus instead, then you won’t have to upgrade later when you increase draw weight. If there’s a shop you can go to locally to try on the rings, that’s the best way :)

      I've got this stringer too and experience absolutely no problems with stringing my 28# bow. The one person who wants a heavier bow, lol. I look for the the opposite things in a bow from this guy. I have an original bear cruizer and i love the dual cam system and adjustability. I keep mine at 75 lbs (Iknow the manufacturer says they only go up to 70 but when mine is maxed out the tension is 75) and i get groups around 6-8 inches at 80 yards. At 20 yards this bow will robinhood all day. I have to be careful and only shoot 2 or 3 at a time or i will break an arrow. Maybe there is variability and I just got a good one?

    Thanks for your explanation, I'm now not so concerned about cam lean. However, I can't for the life of me stop bare shaft nock left regardless of how much I move my arrow rest (I was able to adjust bareshaft nock up/down perfectly). Which led me to comments about cam lean, and here. Both my cams lean opposite to each other, top leans right bottom leans left, so the string is parallel. But I have floating yokes which are 'supposed' to allow the yokes to slide and let the cams balance themselves straight. Plainly there's something wrong with mine... (cheapy) I'm at the point of serving my yokes and making them independent so I can twist left and right separately. But before I do, do you have any advice for adjusting cam lean with floating yokes?

    • @johnsmith4933
      @johnsmith4933 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tpep131 My first bow was a bear legit, but recently upgraded to a darton Consequence. But I'm looking at this bow for my sister. I would definitely go with the ember for a few reasons. 1. The ember is a machined riser. The legit is cast. My dad also had a legit and there we many differences between the two. 2. I think the RTS package on the ember is much better quality 3. The legit only has 75% let off so the can be "jumpy" (ember has up to 80%) 4. Bear stock strings are terrible. So, you would need to add that to the price of a legit. (+$150) 5. I haven't shot the ember but the legit backwall is very squishy. This can cause slight differences in draw length if you aren't consistent in back pressure. This can cause random highs and lows on your target. Also can just be annoying to shoot. The ember has limbstops so the backwall should be very solid. I've shot the Elite Basin that has a similar limb stop system and it was quite nice. Hope this helps

What is your opinion on tower jigs? Are they useful for fletching an arrow with feathers? Is it worth getting one? I'm tempted because of the quickness of placing three feathers simultaneously.
