The Hump
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 มิ.ย. 2019
A video chronicle of us establishing our property/homestead/lifestlye farm. We're not experts so expect a lot of blunders and fun times ahead!
We have an 80 acre property in the Mt Lofty Ranges in South Australia.
The property was devastated by bushfire in 2015 and has begun to recover nicely, albeit overgrown with prickly "Acacia Paradoxa".
As part of our journey we will be constructing our house which we'll also capture and share here!

Installing the Steel Portal - Lifting 900kg with a Manitou Telehandler lifting to its maximum height
This part of our house has a raked ceiling with gable ends - this is the "feature" part of our house build. The massive steel frame is required to give us a large open span and allow for high windows for ample light.
The Manitou Telehandler did a great job of lifting this 900kg steel up 5.7meters (~19ft) - it's large.

Amazing - this Leafcutter Bee seems to be cutting into our wooden bench!

We found this busy little bee making a home under a wooden bench. Is it a Leafcutter Bee (Megachile)? Feeding and teasing a big yabbie with cooked porterhouse steak (freshwater cray/crawdad/etc).

Feeding this big yabbie some scraps of cooked porterhouse steak - it seemed pretty keen on it. We let it eat it all up after we finished teasing it. Note - the teasing was in the interest of filming and not to annoy it.
FINALLY spotted some large yabbies in our dam!
มุมมอง 812 ปีที่แล้ว
We knew we had some yabbies in our dam due to finding claws etc but had never spotted any alive. Today I finally spotted some nice large ones alive! Footage feeding yabbie: th-cam.com/video/Hl-vyYYQFpM/w-d-xo.html
Spotted some fish in our dam/pond. Red Fin Perch?
มุมมอง 342 ปีที่แล้ว
We've not had the chance to put fish in our dam yet, but we spotted what we think is some Red Fin Perch in there. It's sitting under/next to the green floating vegetation. Is that what this fish is? (it looks more red in real life).

Two concreting teams working on our house slab at once! (Aerial/Drone Footage)

Our house slab is rather large and required two concrete pumps and two team to pour in a single day. They started in the middle and worked their way out, was quite interesting to watch.

Sound on to get an idea of the noise level - the camera reduces input sound level after the first few "hits". My car suffered quite badly, bonet, boot and roof have many nasty dents!

they look soo sad for losing home
I did it myself with the Woodglut plans. I think this is the best way to find out how to build it.
Oh meu..são os amores 🐨🐨😍😍💞💞 lindos.
Momma Koala: What the heck you want?!
Is that bucket grapple an add on?
That's just the standard 4-in-1 bucket. Extremely handy!
Most likely a carpenter bee. also look up orange bottom bumble bee.
Thumbs down. I need the cry babies to pull each other down from the trees and cry like a human baby looking for attention.

It looks like the diagonal gate brace on the door is going the wrong way. Bottom should be going toward bottom hinge.
Thanks Michael, are you saying the wooden brace on the back of the door that looks like a Z should look more like an S (but drawn like a Z)?
@@TheHump yep. The brace should go from the outside on the top and go diagonally down to the bottom hinge. That way it transfers the weight of the door to the lower hinge to prevent sagging.
@@michaelg9667 Thanks - I appreciate your wisdom. I'll certainly remember this next time!
In case you had any doubt the poster is correct on the diagonal being the wrong way.
Thanks for watching - make sure to like and subscribe to keep up with the progress!
Looks good, would love to see a walk through
Will do soon. I've got a lot of areial footage to put up which shows a lot more
Thats great Karl, Did you put some in there or were they allready there
Naa, already there. We are thinking of stocking with more but need to do more research on the conflict between yabbies and fish in the same dam. (I'm all ears if anyone wants to add :) )
how many pallets did you use?
Hi Rowena, unfortunately I don't know. A lot were donated and already dismantled into loose wood. I could take a guess, but it could be wildly wrong (and would very much depend on the type of pallets used)
Such innocent beings ....
Hope they were ok? Worrying to see them on the ground. Beautiful animals, I love koalas 🐨♥️
Yep, they were fine - hot for a few days, but had adequate shelter and water. They have a plentiful food supply here (eucalyptus) so are not overly stressed.
Nice work. Do you have a final video of it completed?
Thanks Matt. Our (very happy) chickens have been living in it for about 1.5 years now - they love it and it's been perfect. I'll grab video of it in use and post it in the next few days.
@@TheHump awesome 😎 thank you, I am building a pallet coop right now between the down pouring . Haha
Hey Matt, 2 months later and we finally got a video up of the coop in use.. th-cam.com/video/-W8KTgXTS2E/w-d-xo.html
Awesome footage ! Off to a great start👍
Thanks 👍

Just having a drink. Look fine to me. Keep the dogs off them.
Ү es, both mother and baby are so cute♥♥🇰🇿
There should be more such reservoirs in your country - thanks to them such wonderful koalas can survive
I'm worried about how you're doing. My mom's expression looks so sad that my heart is broken. I hope the agacoala on my mom's back is healthy and healthy.😭😭😭😭
They looked right into the camera ♥️🤭
If you want to help call the adelaide koala rescue hotline they will come and get them
Yes they are cute but they need our help to stay protected i love ❤️ koalas 🐨 can’t believe man 👨🏾 is killing so many of them such a sweet gentle nature animal why do humans destroy everything they touch 😡😤☹️😡😤☹️🙁😡😤🤯
Please please people help take care of the koalas 🐨 donate to any organization any amount will help
It's going to be very hot, but I'm sad because the mother koala and baby koala look tired. I hope they stay healthy, but don't get sick.
why not use 3/4" rock instead of more mud?
Hi, thanks for your suggestion, I'm always looking for advice this end! This is 20mm - 40mm (3/4" - 2") reclaimed road base which has actually worked really well. It's created a excellent solid (non muddy) base. It's compacted really well. This is only for access through here while we build our house. I do intend on putting 20mm (3/4") blue metal (gravel) through the entire area once building is complete (too much earthworks to do first).
Que lindos 🐨🐨❣️🙏
They are such wonderful animals, quiet, gentle, non-aggressive, wise, ... Protect the koala because we are very worried about them
I need the cry babies to pull each other down from the trees and cry like a human baby looking for attention.
Cool off any way you can, right, sweet koalas?💖💖💖💖💖💖🐨
Yeah, and they really needed it that day!
New channel?
Not really a channel yet. Just starting to set up our property and will be starting a vlog one day. Just random vids for now. We will be capturing the build of our house, sheds, etc as we set up our lifestyle/hobby farm.
@@TheHump i m also trying to become a professional youtuber, but not yet i m getting any suggest how i can start
@@warzone740 I'd be the last person to get any advice from. My personal skill set is: 1) Hold phone/cam and shoot, check!. 2) Use ShotCut to edit etc, check!. 3) Upload to youtube! IMO, all my videos are rubbish in terms of youtube content. They need a face, conversation and regular updates!
