Thank you very much..
Invaluable video! Most guys have never really seen one of these up close or come across a bad universal joint like that, and this will allow them to immediately identify the source of the problem.
I've got a 2005 GMC Yukon 5.3L 4x4 with 234,000 miles, all stock. It makes a clicking noise similar to this, that I can usually only hear with windows down and driving next to something like a wall or tall curb. It only does it when applying gas though, and in a forward gear. I have examined the u-joints and driveshafts and they look fine and tight. It does look original. Do you think this is the issue?
Thanks especially for the audio. Yeah it sounds like I need to replace a ujoint in my truck
Nice
What car is it ? Sounds like an explorer???
Exact sound on a ford explorer 2008 with 133k miles, does it when trying to put it in reverse and drive, almost thought I needed to replace the tranny phewww, transmission is pretty smooth and I hope the explorer lasts with maintance. I just got it today. Don’t look forward to changing the joint but I have to do it 🫡
What would you change in this case. The driveshaft?
The U joints I believe
The clunking sound when you put it in gear is the dead give away
it does that to me but it doesn’t make noise when i’m driving how much longer do i have before it gives out
@@kick2slow don’t wait, better to get it replaced in a shop than be wishing you did on the side of the road in a rain storm.
Gotta remember it could also be a bad cv joint so make sure to check both before you go and repair it.
Just wanted to check the sound and see before climbing under, exactly what I was looking for
Yep, I recognize that noise👍 Bought a new Spicer today, I know what I’m doing Sunday morning🤣🤣

If not change the universal joint for a long time...what can happen to the other parts... example gearbox, longshaft n rear differential...
Replaces my rear end and U joint. But I still get this sound in front! I have two more U joints at my front wheels that need replacing too!
Mine sounds like this not all the time
Yup I most likely got a bad u joint although it doesn't make that clunking noise only when I shift
If it only clunks when shifting, its probably a bad motor mount.
Finally... as ShadowOfNoc mentioned, this video provides both audio and visual representation of a truly bad u-joint. Thanks for taking the time and effort to provide this to your fellow gearheads!
Thank you sooooo much, ive been hunting this sound for months. It was intermittent. I've changed ujoints before and never heard this. Every single search I did on google or TH-cam led me to someone who suggested a tune up. You know, because tune up
Yeah, you’ll say “my transmission is stuck in third” and somebody will reply “tune up with acdelco sparkplugs and change the fuel filter”
Sound like mine right now.
Thank you! I was losing my sanity
Thank you I appreciate you doing all this to show us 🙏
Thank you so much man!
WOW THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT MY JEEP SOUNDS LIKE and why Ive been searching through vids tryna pin point a driveshaft differential or axle problem thank you for this my mechanics couldn't pin point on test drive but this is exactly the sound and speed and volume change mine makes while driving so my next shop visit I will tell them to start there 👍👍👍👍👍 I'm so glad I found this I've been bummed all weekend anticipating a MAJOR repair ...
Just heard this exact sound on my 95 Bronco after getting off a highway, appreciate the time you took to upload this. Now I’m deciding do I replace just the uJoints or order a new drive shaft with new uJoints and simply unbolt & swap since both are most likely originals over 25 yrs old at this point. Thanks again!
I think you helped me find me problem. 03 sequoia 4.7l v8 sr5. Thanks a lot bro.
It only happens when I decelerate but that’s definitely the noise
Worked over brakes and checked the ring and pinion that’s all good
What was the issue my 01 Yukon making that noise from the rear passenger exact noise only when I’m decelerating when I’m pushing you don’t hear it
But you can't hear the metal touching when yiur driving you can only feel vibration is thst right
Lol I can't help but think about those little mokeys that hit the symbols together lol 😆
What? "no comment?"
Hope you got this "joint" fixed b now....or i wood say you lost yur driveline somewhere "go'n fish'n."
Thank you for doing an amazing video. I was going crazy trying to figure out why my suburban was making that noise. It pings when put in reverse and when I drive it sounds like some wire is hitting something
Interesting, I'm getting vibrations at highway speed, not at low speeds
That is exactly what is happening to my Infiniti FX45. Thank you very much.
Was the u-joint the problem or drive shaft my 01 Yukon making this noise coming from rear passenger side
@@patchdaddy7019 to be honest no it wasn't. I thought it was but it was some screw lose under my trunk somewhere. What a relief
Badass
Think my 1968 Cadillac has this issue. Sounds identical and can be extremely loud, yet random.
Yup, sounds like mine without the metal clanging sound.
Yep this the noise mine is making. Thanks for confirming my hypothesis
Finally the video I needed!
Great video
Would that cause car not to move over 30
my 92 gmc sierra is doing this accompanied by vibrations.
Great idea!
Thanks bro I appreciate you
This is exactly the same happening to me right now so i need to replace my crossjoint
Could have something to do with someone going full yard on that drive line ear,, you can see around :35 it’s been beat like it owed somebody money, absolutely could be what’s throwing it out of balance.
Video wont play just keeps loading after the first 10 secs
Good bro your Work is Best
So I have a f250 4x4 changed the shocks still making loud clunking noise from the rear end only going over speed bumps but it sounds and sometimes feels like the bed is gonna break any ideas?
Check where the bed mounts to body. Mine had a loose bolt and shook the actual bed when driving over bumps
@@longboardcamify it was the bed mounts replaced them already
Hell ya bro, pretty sure this is what mines doing
