I'm just a hobbyist model maker, miniature painter, sculptor, prop maker, carpenter/DIY-er having some fun on TH-cam, and maybe trying to help you guys get into these hobbies too!
War of the Worlds 'Thunder Child' Diorama - Jeff Wayne
Here 's how I made a "Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds Thunderchild Diorama"... That's a mouthful.
This project was one of ups and downs - a idea with no idea of how to achieve it, learning and utilising 3D printing, one of my prints exploding over time due to poor curing, year-long paralysis due to fear of failing resin, the wave texture taking two full weeks to dry to name a few.
Overall though, I'm stoked with how this came out - I hope you'll forgive the 2 years of procrastination...

Star Wars Trench Run Diorama Pt.2 - The Trench
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
So here's the belated 2nd part of the diorama build! In this video I construct the diorama base from the Death Star Attack Set and some resin tiles, paint the base, wire up the LED filaments and add the X-Wings into the diorama. Let me know what you think! Intro - th-cam.com/video/AeGl2cPu-Xg/w-d-xo.html The Build - th-cam.com/video/AeGl2cPu-Xg/w-d-xo.html?t=29 The Paintjob - th-cam.com/video/A...
Star Wars Trench Run Diorama Pt1 - The X-Wings
มุมมอง 2.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
To kick off the channel I'm going to making a Star Wars Death Star trench diorama, starting with building and painting the three X-Wings. These kits are the Bandai 1/144 scale X-Wings, with micro-LEDs used for the engines. In the next video I'll be working on the Trench Diorama itself, so look out for that. Let me know what you think! where can people get the parts for the trench like the panels?
" There were ships of shapes and sizes, Scattered out along the bay! " But seriously, this is awesome.
Ulla!! I love this diorama. My partner is obsessed with JWWOTW and sent me this-I happen to be a nerd for dioramas so this was a treat.
That's badass
These are so good, you definitely deserve more subs and I will definitely be re creating this diorama myself. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
amazing master paces i wish i could have one of these on my shelf excellent work
Terrific! Really tricky to do a 3D version of a classic cover, and you nailed it. I'm glad this exists.
Absolutely brilliant. Love this
BEAUTIFUL 👏👏👏👏
Hey here's a bit of an upgrade for repairing errors in 3D prints. Instead of using superglue and resin dust, just use the liquid resin and then hit it with a UV light, it's far faster and far quicker than superglue and a lot less troublesome. the bonus is that it's the same color as your print. Essentially printer resin is the same as UV resin sold in tiny bottles for exorbitant prices. buy a bottle of clear printing resin if you want to use it for other purposes as well. which is a perfect thing to use when making dioramas with water in them. a perfect material for use as water, and wet surfaces and even glass if you know what you're doing.
Uuuulaaaaa
wow that is art. do one more perhaps the 1906 artwork that H.G well loved
Holy crap, this is sensational. Thank you for sharing! (found it via MS Paints btw)
Thanks! I love MS Paints, I wish I had the talent and time (and sense of humour) to produce content as good as Dave's! Just to ask, was this a suggested video from one of his?
@@thoroughlygoodmakes5225 No I think I found it posted on his Discord
This is an actual true work of art right here well done, I bet if Jeff saw this he'd be amazed and proud. 😃👍
I'm working on my own version of this, do you put a clear coat over the decals before weathering?
Hey, they aren't decals - the bandai 1/144 comes with stickers instead. I always put a clear coat over models before weathering, especially when I've used decals!
It's a shame that Jeff Wayne himself couldn't see what he's inspired. I'm sure he would love it.
I am jealous but in a flattering way. Highly impressed, I could not believe the amount of detail you've included in EVERY respect. Truly talented! Completely in awe of the work, I so wish I had your skills!
this NEEDS more attention
I assume you mean it should be brought to more people's attention - it's that good.
Wow 12K views But only 45 comments Any ways do more war of the worlds stuff i love it
i can imagine this small guy growing up with the big ones. keep up with the good work
Looks great.
heat-ray = led filament ?
Yep! A flexible led filament - got mine on aliexpress but I believe more stores are stocking them now (at least in UK)
Beautiful. I want one would you do one for me please and how much
Oh, my good, absolutly great 👌where Can I buy it?
This is one im planni g to do in 700 but using the british built Mikasa from the Japanese navy
Really surprising how many modelers have done this subject, including Fine Scale Modeler for September 1990. H.M.S Thunderchild vs the Martians.
Fantastic work. Ive listened to this album time and time again and seen it live on stage in Leeds.... absolutely stunning music. I think your diorama captures the artwork perfectly.
Top top build - and great to see you tackle so many modelling techniques for the first time and pull them off. Will check out your other vids / builds!
"Never before in the history of the world, has such a mass of human beings move and suffer together. This was no disciplined March... It was a stampede! Without order and without a goal... Six million people unarmed and unprovisioned driving headlong... This was the beginning of the route of civilization... Of the massacre of mankind..."
I think jeff himself would approve this 👍
sweeeeeeeeet
Great build. I love war of the worlds and you captured the it all in this diorama.
Thank you! I love your scratch building by the way
@@thoroughlygoodmakes5225 thanks. Sorry about the first comment. Texting without my glasses on😂🤣. It's a fantastic build. Where did you get the flexible LED from
wauw. so cool
Tell me your not going to make us wait another 2 years? 😝
Ha! Maybe 2-3 months? I have another build in the works
I hope you'll get some more traffic; got to this via a Facebook compulation 🙂 The full version of this 'making off' is way more entertaining!
Thanks! I've just found the Facebook compilation - not sure how I feel about another page using my content without asking but it's nice they've clearly credited me? And if its bringing people my way then fair play.
Ah, I was afraid they didn't contact you 😕 But, well, hopefully I'm not the only one who took the effort to track down the original 🙂
Such an awesome video and diorama, love it. I’m with you, the album terrified me as a kid.
Thank you!
Excellent. I really like how the heat ray passing through the ship lights it from below. “Ulla!”
excellent..
Absolutely sensational build and outcome. Thank you so much for sharing this with us and reactivating my childhood memories of sitting the lounge room floor and listening to my dads twin record album of this fantastic version of the classic story! Kindest Regards from Sydney Australia
Thanks mate! So glad it brought those memories up for you
Top job mate. Looks awesome!
Un trabajo muy limpio y detallado, espero puedas hacer mas.
Holy shit thank you so much for this video and I’m new to model building and this is so inspiring and awesome to give me so much motivation to dream and create. I owe you a beer big time! Please make more videos!
Thanks man! Keep dreaming and creating - life's a lot better when you do
Congratulations on a fantastic diorama, and thank you for the tutorial on your techniques. I can't see one of those tripods without hearing 'Ulla' in my head!
I saw recently on Tested YT channel, a Miniature model expo, and there's another scene from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, based on another painting from the LP/CD Booklet. Namely the scene at the end where the birds are eating the remains in the downed Tripods. Nice to see more dioramas from this album. Geat work!
Thanks, I saw that too about a week ago! I had considered recreating each main piece of artwork in the booklet but I'm not sure I have the shelf space, haha
Just watched your trench run vid. Happy to see you back. Looking forward to see more hopefully. Ive subbed, just in case 👍 This is a superb build. Mind that resin dust!
Thanks man! And yes I definitely should have mentioned I was wearing a mask throughout and gloves when it was uncured - it can do awful things!
This was beyond amazing, totally worth the wait.
Thank you!
Flipping awesome!!!! 😊❤😊❤
Thanks!
Love it, one of my favourite albums since I was a kid.
Thank you! It's a fantastic album
Nice build! I’m right at the beginning of learning resin printing. Any channels you found helpful when you started? Like, “here are the most basic of basics” type content?
Thank you! You were one of the commenters who got me to make another video :) Ooooo, good question... Here's a vid from Luke at GGS about some tips before getting into it th-cam.com/video/9mZN7soWegU/w-d-xo.html And another general guide from Nerdtronic th-cam.com/video/TuubPMWeQQE/w-d-xo.html I have an Anycubic Photon Mono which has served me well the last couple of years!
Excellent! Come back and do more!
Man that’s awesome. Unfortunately I can’t create stuff like I used to anymore 😞 but I do still enjoy watching. Your level of detail is crazy and this would be inspirational for someone looking for a tutorial. I really enjoyed both videos - thank you.
