hey i need to do this to my pool as my copper wire is all oxidise .so i was told i would have to drain the pool to the light fixture is this true and if not how do you stop the water from getting inot the conduit

i am at a loss with trying to remove mustard algae. i have about 30,000 gallons. i used 4lbs yellow out with 4 lbs of super powder shock. i vacuumed on waste the following day. 48 hours after treatment, i thought i had gotten rid of it like the store advised me. by the 3rd day, the algae started to appear in the same spots. i used another round of yellow out and shock. by the 3rd day again, it started to show up. this is a saltwater pool with a sand filter. i noticed the flow from the waste on the filter was not a steady flow, water was shooting out in pockets of small blowouts. is that from air getting in the waste line or loose pipe? i decided to change to backwash to see if the flow was any better and it was. i forgot to put in on rinse and when i put it back on filter mode, all this brown/yellow crap entered the pool. probably because it has been 4 weeks since i last backwash/rinse the filter. i have been vacuuming on waste so there was no need to backwash/rinse. seeing all the algae shooting out of the return lines in the pool, do i need to change the sand? it is 4 years old. any suggestions? do i double the amount of yellow out/shock to 8 lbs to super shock the water?

I used poolrx last year when cya was super high, on water restrictions, and had mustard algae. This year, i didnt use it until this August when mustard algae returned. I have had it in 4 days, mustard algae almost completely gone, pool looks amazing!

I'm losing my mind. I'm cleaning my filter at least every other day and adding shock every day or every other day. The free chlorine just disappears and this dusty algae just comes back. Brushing daily as well. At first the cya was at zero but I fixed that and still the chlorine doesn't stay. I had a puck that is supposed to be for 2500 gallons and did nothing. Hth told me not to use it because my pool is only 1000 gallons above ground. I don't get what is going on. I've also used Clorox algaecide a couple of times after double shocking.

I have a yellow stain on my walls of my white plaster pool. It doesn’t seem to scrub off now matter how much I brush. Is this yellow/mustard algae?!? Thanks!

No explanation for the new cable? Most guys don't even go in the water , just on Phillips screw to remove and it takes about 15 minutes. I have never seen the cable need to be changed and I have changed the bulbs in my two houses in Florida a few times. I had to get in the water to get the screw back in because it is too awkward trying to get it started. I usually put in a new gasket also.

Your company doesn't re-seal the power cord hole in the niche? That's one of the most common places to loose water/leak or get behind the niche over time. No bueno

Same question about using a steel brush on a Fiberglass lined pool. I've got a lot of what looks like black algae & it's on the walls as well. Bought that copper based product Algaetrine, which I haven't used yet. I've use their other product called Swimtrene when I had another kind of algae starting to grown & it seemed to help, but they're both expensive. But back the steel pool brush question in a fiberglass lined pool. Are there any alternatives? And also using a chlorine/tablet stick to brush directly against algae areas has been mentioned but nobody mentions how it's secured to scrub in the deep end or walls. Haven't looked yet, but hopefully there's a telescoping pole w/ an attachment that holds it? Would appreciate feedback, Thanks!

Will mustard algae sometimes look like DE on the floor of the pool? I fought a DE leaking issue and eventually replaced the multivalve port and entire DE filter as replacing spider gasket, grids and manifold on old equipment didn't fix it. After a bit, I was getting what I thought was DE still, but noticed it looked more yellow, and the liner was a bit slippery. My levels have all been good. Pool is 20k gallons, FC roughly 2ppm, CC between 0 and .5ppm, pH 7.4, TA 70 to 80ppm, CYA is just touching the 30 on my Taylor test kit, so it may be a little low, my Calcium hardness is a little low at 130. With pool being liner I figured I'd get that up when I correct all the other issues. What is concerning is I cannot tell if I STILL have a DE issue or if it is algae. The walls don't have any discoloring, nor does the floor. It just looks like specs of whatever (basically looks like the DE did with more color). I did apply Yellow Out followed by a couple pounds of powdered shock. I have been keeping the Chlorine level up, but not at the 20ppm you suggested. I planned to get more powered shock today (basically just more economical than the liquid shock). Should I just continue to vacuum to waste and get chlorine up to 20ppm?

I'm a new pool guy with a few pools, and I just don't get this CYA stuff. I have some pools with CYA over 200, (some at 300) and some at 40. I don't see any difference as far as chemical needs. I'm in AZ and the UV index hits 10 every day, for most of the day. Liquid Chlorine just does not last at all. Guess I'll learn all about it in a few months.

Did you say customers want the pool drained every week? I'm doing good to get my customer to drain the pool every 3 years.

All the pool RX thing is is a 3 inch copper pipe. You could go to Lowe’s or Home Depot or Menards or even find a scrap piece of copper tubing on the side of the road and put that in your skimmer basket. What makes the pool RX good is that little $40 tub of chemicals That you put in the pool. That stuff reacts with the copper and activate all of this algae killing science don’t blame me? Take your pool RX thing apart and it’ll just be a copper pipe.

I've found that the process of it turning on and filling breaks DE loose. I first run the backwash for 1 minute. I then open the air bleed at the top and let the filter empty untill you no longer hear air entering the housing. I then run the pump untill the air bleed kicks out water, about 20 seconds then turn off the pump. I then let the housing drain and repeat about 10 times. After the 10th time, plus or minus one, I start the pump and use a mason jar in the backwash flow to catch water and see how much it's still kicking out. Usually it's not much by the tenth but sometimes... The old run the backwash for 1 minute and you're done leaves probably half the DE and junk still in the filter. I have a 100' backwash hose that goes around the house into the sewer cleanout. It's a pain so I HATE backwashing (they should build homes with a drain) so I want it completely clean when I unwind that damn dain hose.

I’ve never used that acid and my salt water chlorinator lasted 14 years. (timer ) . My stabilities was always low from day one. (I didn’t know)

Ive never used this last season with my permasalt system, and my local pool supply sent me home with a bag to add 2.25lbs. Just concerned it may be an issue. Thoughts?

i've been finding very high phosphate counts on pools near golf courses... found a 2500 today. on these pools... often the standard testings are all messed up.

Good information but a little contradictory when mixing advice for what a pool service tech would do versus a homeowner. In warm summer months a commercial tech MUST use tabs to stretch his visits to every week because liquid chlorine just won’t last 7 days. A homeowner can completely AVOID tabs but instead using very small doses of liquid chlorine every few days to easily maintain a level of 2-4ppm. The allure of the tabs is convenience but the inevitable curse of elevated CYA makes them unsuitable as a private sanitizer. I only use them when going on vacation or it several consecutive days of rain predicted. I never use them in the off season (winter) because algae growth is so easy to avoid

Cal-Hypo does a great job of killing yellow & green algae on its own. Superchorinate x 3. Never tried that brand you have of algaecide. Ive used their sequestering agents and they are great. Love your channel.
