Hi, I'm Steve and I'm a huge 80's gaming fan. Back in the day I had a ZX81, BBC Model B, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Atari 800 and other systems and this channel is me playing 8 bit games I love (and ones I dislike) and just waffling about the game as I play them. The channel idea is just my attempt to leave something behind to prove I existed and to have some fun along the way! You're most welcome to watch and/or comment.
Foundry Part 11
Today I expand the mining and work on the research and generating more science packs 2.

In rhe same research tab...where it says name.....can you type steam turbine? Excelsior and like
Instead of the big hierarchy map. It looks like the tile map on the left under that white start research bar looks easier to understand. The ones in red need researching, I think. Great video sir. Excelsior
I just loaded it to see what you meant and yes!! Good spot, thanks!
Another like for a great series....keep going sir.....excelsior
Your voice is very youthful. How old are you?
Wow haha!! thank you. I never expected to read that today, I'm very old. I was into gaming in the 1970s. I won't give my exact age for obvious reasons but I'm into my sixth decade on this planet.
@@stevesgaming7475 he is 97 lol
@@stevesgaming7475 Me too. I am 55.
@@delboy3k1 Cheeky sod lol!
Seriously... you want me to have another heart attack ? Lol, kiddin, but yeah a stressful game. You played it well. Excelsior
oh mate don't scare me like that! haha. all the best mate!
I came across your channel this evening and enjoyed the first video I watched, so I've been working my way through a few of your videos. I love retro gaming so it's always good to watch others play them. I just had a quick question of the set up you're using, are you doing it via your PC or are you using a piece of kit that's using the tv? I have an old retropie set up but I quite like the menus on the one you're using
Thank you very much for watching! I use two things for doing the video, my PC for steam games such as my previous Planet Crafter and my current Foundry series, but for everything else. ie 8 bit, 16bit, computers, consoles etc. I use a MiSTer FPGA which if you don't know, it's a small box about the size of the palm of your hand and it will play games from the late 70's up to the Dreamcast. I do have some real hardware like a BBC Model B, ZX Spectrum 128k and Commodore 64, but it's just so much easier to play those games on the MiSTer. I used to use retropie some time ago, it's rather good!
I'm currently attempting to create the steam turbine power station, that's fun.
oh wow! thats advanced stuff, you're flying! nice one.
@@stevesgaming7475 I'm just following what that little rescue bot is telling me to do. Building what they ask for.
@@JonoHalle Cool! hope you're enjoying it.
Great vid as always. Excelsior
Thank you but I only put it out 28mins ago. you can't have watched it yet ;)
@stevesgaming7475 I watched first 20 mins and it's a great video....then mum called me....why does it get bad ? Lol
@@delboy3k1 haha! thanks. I hope your mum is well! ..does it get bad? no worse than usual lol!
@@stevesgaming7475that bad!!! Lol
Great vid as always. Shame your a robot who doesn't need air lol kiddin. Excelsior
lol, yes it is!
These games were deep.
I might give this a go, looks interesting.
Yes it's a lot of fun!
Steve please read everything on screen please will help
I will try, thank you.
Just a question. Can that little bot get biomass for you. It seems like a basic task. In my last comment I said ignore tabs as you found and used them later on. They were in the crafting window lol excelsior
Yayyyy ignium order for fuel. Problem solved....although the bot does have a new task bar. No idea what that does
I don't think the bot does anything ...yet. Maybe later it will?
@@delboy3k1 I'll check it out, thanks!
I quite like Bio Defense.
That Pheenix game is actually a port of a 1983 ZX Spectrum game of the same name
I thought the title screen looked very much like the Spectrum version. wow, it's not a good port then, as Pheenix is amazing on the Speccy.
Nice play on Master of the Lamps there! Stand still in Spindizzy by pressing the space bar (I think). I actually bought Spy vs Spy and loved it! I used to try to speed run it (though never actually took notes) 😉
Future Wars was one of my favourite games on the Amiga!
I did not play it in German, though.
It seems like the main reason you're not enjoying these games is because you don't understand them, but figuring them out is what's meant to be the fun of them. It might not be your kind of thing, but I recommend experimenting more in the games: figuring out what every button does, testing out how different interactions work, etc. The creators of UFO 50 said that they wanted this collection to be like going to a friend's house and picking from a collection of games that you don't know anything about and trying to figure things out without any hand holding. The games that require quick reflexes might not be for you, but if you took your time to understand some of the other games you might like them! I'm kinda bummed you skipped over Mortol because the controls seemed daunting, that seems like a game you might get into if you understood it well enough. Again, it might not be your thing, but these games are meant to be confusing at first. I do hope you keep playing, the later in the collection you get the "better" the games are because of how this company learned and grew. I know theres at least a few games in here youll like!
Thanks, that's very helpful! Mortol? I will revisit that then. Thanks a lot for your superb feedback! I'll try harder to understand them the next time!
Just a suggestion, but when going to new areas, why not scan for ores ? Also, after assembly, check the other tabs other than science.....great stuff another like. Excelsior
Lol messaged half way through lol
Great ideas! I've already recorded parts 4 and 5 but from 6 on, I'll use the scanner when I explore! other tabs? not sure I noticed others, I'll have a closer look next time. I really appreciate your input, thank you!
A liked video. Keep going. Not enough deaths though. Doubt much peril in this game lol
Thanks
I used to play Colony on the speccy for hours when it came out BITD. You have to grow mushrooms and stop the enemies from eating them.
Oh nice, I wasn't aware there was a Spectrum version.
Eric and the Floaters wasn't actually LIKE Bomberman, it actually WAS Bomberman. Bomberman started out as a game on the MSX, but when the MSX version was released in Europe, it was renamed to Eric and the Floaters for the European market, albeit with slightly modified sprites.
Yeah, I didn't like Hacker either. I liked the sequel a little bit more, but I still didn't really care for it. I'm not a 1942 fan either (sorry Mamemeister LOL) I just find the game pretty boring TBH. When it comes to shooters, I generally prefer fixed screen shooters like Galaxian. There are exceptions...Scramble and Juno First, for example, but I'm not a fan of most scrolling shooters.
1942 is boring, without a doubt. I agree with you, I prefer fixed screen ones.
Yep, Panther and the flying bathtub i thought ok on the c64, but this.....nahhhh, sid tune is a great david whittaker, and this on the atari is ok /competant. Great vid excelsior
It was released over here in a double pack with L.A. Swat. Of course the less said about L.A. Swat, the better.
The C64 version of Panther has much better defined graphics than this Atari version. It's tough and repetitive but for £1.99 it was an absolute bargain back in the day. And the music is ace.
Yeah, can't go wrong for £1.99
This was a favourite of mine to. But your experience is the same as everyone else's when they first tried this. It drove us all mad with the switching conveyor tracks, homing missile targets, teleportation, and cracking the safe!
Chuckie Egg plays really well, but i rather play it with a controller
It's an interesting game. Bit expensive for me currently, but WAB liked it as well but said it needed peril but as you don't want that I.e. creatures, etc, it looks like a good marriage for you. Look forward to the next one. Excelsior
Sounds like you have gone to VOIP.....(voice over i.p.) a digital phone service...hope that works for you as most business use that and I once supported it during my probation days.....anway....BIG LOL....an English lad loading a German version of a game designed by a French company...good 1st game lol NOT ha ha...well those are the breaks for a random series. All the best my friend. Probably revenge for your game choice to me :-)
Yes, 'digital voice' it's called according to zen. anyway i'm sure they'll get it working eventually. lol @ german game designed by the french, I had no chance then :D - btw a new series starting later today, I hope you enjoy it.. it's a bit satisfactory/planet crafter like!
@stevesgaming7475 great. Planet crafter now has a new planet so I'm at the start again. Was going to do astroneer but it's old now so back to friends giving me games lol but I'm going to do a live stream again starting next week lol
@@delboy3k1 ohh nice, how about a planet crafter stream? - anyway please give me a shout when you stream anything, I don't want to miss it.
Pungoland seems heavily influenced by the Japanese arcade game Doki Doki Penguin Land, albeit with some differences.
To me, the Freescape games only played decent on the 16 bit computers.
Yeah, I agree.
Room 3 go up a platform in Room 2
Maybe need to get artefact to get rid of the yellow walls?
Was the name of the channel "Gaming since the '70s"?
at one point, yes!
I really enjoy this game because it’s simpler than it seems! 🎮 The poles and most travelators (besides the alternating ones) only allow travel in one direction-up or down, left or right. This creates opportunities to find temporary safe spots, like at the base of an 'up' pole when the enemy is above. Once the path ahead is clear (meaning the enemy can’t quickly return to you and must circumnavigate), you can make progress: light up the floors, gather all the coins and keys, unlock the safe, and activate the exit. Job done! ✨💰🔑
It is fun, I'm just really really bad at it, but there's a good game there if you can play it.
Not suprised you had trouble with the first 2 games. Done by the same programmer and company, the graphics are similar and the forced perspective is suspect. Had ghost chaser on the c64 and played it for a while and got bored. Great video. Excelsior
I had the second one (Ollie's Follies) Frank Cohen's games were either boring, or very frustrating.
The game looks cool! I'll to put it on my ZX Spectrum Next and play it!
I hope you get a lot further than I did!
Hi Steve, I wrote this, thanks for playing and making the video :) As DelBoy3k1 says, Bloo's is a Jack Attack clone. To answer your questions: if you get Bloo to sit on all the swirly platforms on a level, you get a score bonus; be quick though because the platforms disappear when the time runs out; on some levels (level 3 for example), you have to move the blocks to get to the platforms. You move the blocks by holding the fire button and moving towards the block to push (as you found) or moving away from the block to pull. You can also squish the (evil) mushrooms with the blocks too. Thanks for not being too harsh on my weird game!
You wrote it!! Awesome. i'm sorry I was so so bad at it! Thanks for the tips, I'll certainly give it another go now! :)
@@stevesgaming7475 I thought you showed remarkable patience and persistence! And you should give Jack Attack a go as that's the original and infinitely more well known game. There's a C16 version of it, so maybe you'll find it as part of your C16 videos 🙂
@@tafty Thanks!
Was Timeslip on the C16? Sure My mate had this on his C16 +4
Yes it was, and brilliant to play too with the screen split three ways.
I like your vids im doing a similar sort of thing its hard to get many views
Thanks, I'll check out your channel tonight! As for views, it's not something I ever look at, but I guess there are tips for getting more if you wanted to?
Glad to hear there is at least one other person out there who enjoys Backlash, Steve ... it's always been a bit of a go to, on the 16-bits, for me 🤘👽🤘
That Arkanoid game was pretty good apart from the music. It was done by Shaun Southern though...
Arthur Noid it is - released by Alternative Software in 1988, so quite late into the lifespan of the original C16 and Plus/4 game releases. It's a hugely under-rated Shaun Southern game too - 32 screens in total (23 regular plus 9 bonus) and plays as well as it can with a joystick. As with all Shaun Southern games on that system, using SHIFT LOCK turns the music off, which can be very handy for this game once you've heard the tune a few times.
Great fun Steve! You are really good at Encounter. Laser Hawk is actually pretty decent. Type the number for the teleporter you want in Miner 2049er. So so many Boulder Dash level compilations for the Atari computers. You should have put your own out there! 😊
Well done Steve doing the c16
First game is cool. It's like Centipede meets Space Invaders.
The C64 version of Feud was a buggy mess. Play the speccy version, it's a lot better.
Somehow I knew Frontier would be on someone else's list which is why I have the high def version on my response. Also real Amiga but souped up 😁
I worked out magic garden...collect 3 or 4 orange creatures then move them over 3 or 4 stars. Your trail was just toooo long. Good luck buddy get well soon. I worry. Excelsior
ohhh!! now why didn't the bloody instructions say that. haha! Thanks
Yeah, it's pretty much a glorified snake clone.
Look at all those "cartridges" 🤣
Haha ;)
This was originally an Atari 2600 game believe it or not, it was subsequently ported to the Atari 8-bit, VIC-20, C64, The Atari 5200, and the ColecoVision
