I wrote and recorded these pieces when I had been playing viola da gamba for a year and five months, which, at this point, was some time ago. Although I believe I have improved on the instrument since then, I share them here as they are with those who have been kind enough to follow my progress thus far. If you play viola da gamba and would like to try these pieces yourself, you can find the sc...

so soft itv take you with it like leave in littel beek in the Forest
I finally got a chance to listen and enjoy this! 🍁Thank you! 🙌
Thank you, Nissi. This video is the first in a series of three, so stay tuned. We got back from Rome last Friday. The day before, I started feeling bad. So, I tested for Covid on Saturday, and the test was positive. Needless to say, I'm not at my best and not up to recording anything right now, but I have put together a couple of videos of things I recorded earlier. Take care.
@ Oh that's not fun! I hope you feel better very soon. Take your time - your health comes first! God Bless! 🙌
Nicely played and I really like this entire playlist! Subscribed :)
Thank you. I'm afraid I don't get around to guitar very often, but I shall be posting some more guitar music in a few weeks. Stay tuned.
Well dun bach top show
Thank you for listening and commenting.
You play viola too! It takes much talent passion and dedication learn even one instrument let alone the many you play! To write such a piece of music is very impressive! Bravo! 🌹
Thank you, dear Nissi. We were in Rome, Italy when your comment was posted, and I tried to respond to it immediately. I was able to write a response, but, when I tried to post it, it just disappeared time and again. So, I'm sorry to be getting back to you so late, but, once again, I greatly appreciate your support of my amateur efforts.
@@stephenarndt1943 I've had that happen to me before - no worries about timing with me - I love rhythm but I'm no lover of time as all that is good and beautiful is timeless! You are a very nice person! 🙌Hope you enjoyed your travels. 😊💫
Thank you, Dear Stephen!
@@StephenArndt Viel Spass in Rom.
Bernhard.
Vey lovely! Thank you Stephen! I wish you would do the remaining seven. I can't think of any rule preventing it! 😉
Thank you, Nissi. You must think that I have been ignoring your comment, but the truth is that I have been thinking about it every day for almost two weeks now--without, however, having come to a decision. I try to work ahead and already have a video to post every two weeks for the rest of the year, so it has been quite some time since I finished this harp collection. I won't rule out returning to it in the first part of next year, and I could do three of the longer pieces I skipped to make ten pieces like the others (sorry, but I like things like parallelism and symmetry even though no rule requires it!). So, we'll see. In any event, thank you very much for your continued interest in and support of my amateur efforts.
@@stephenarndt1943 No worries do what you have planned! I should take notes on your organization as I barely make plans. I'm reliable and I can organize but it's just mostly not my way. I am very intuitive (spirit led when i get it right). lol I'm sure what you have planned will be wonderful! Keep up the good work! 🙌 : )
who is playing?
I am, Stephen Arndt. I just looked and am shocked that I didn't include all the information that I usually do at the beginning of my videos. I can't imagine why. My apologies.
Oh I listened to all of this days ago and loved it! I thought I commented but I must have forgot to press send before closing TH-cam. Thank you Stephen! 🙌 Perfect opportunity to listen again - and I am. 😊
Thank you, dear Nissi. I hope you enjoy the music as much as I enjoy your comments.
@@stephenarndt1943 I would not listen if I did not enjoy it! 😊
I’m so charmed by your interpretation of these pieces. It feels as if I’m standing outside a window and overhearing someone of the time playing for their own pleasure.
Thank you for your kind comment. I have long thought I was born in the wrong century by about five hundred years, though it's hard to imagine that I would enjoy this wonderful music any more then than I do now.

@@stephenarndt1943 Lieber Stephen. Alles gut verlaufen. Ich kan schon wieder gehen. Mit 70 Jahren hat man natürliche Abnutzungserscheinungen. The "Jane Pickering’s Lute Book” MS Egerton 2046 British Library contains some pieces in „Harp-way“ tuning, such as The King’s March and a Gigue. I have PDF compilation available.
"Harp-way tuning" habe ich niemals erforscht.

In the description u talk of this played on the lutez but here it is on the harp, so did you transpose the lute tablatures of the balcares book to a harp score ? This is wonderful, thank you
Well, that's what I started doing until, after transcribing ten pieces, I suddenly remembered that the edition I bought many years ago had two volumes, one with lute tablature and one with grand staff transcriptions. I immediately stopped transcribing and started playing from the published transcriptions.

Надеюсь, вы прослушаете всю серию здесь: th-cam.com/play/PLg2GtsZ0EeLsL-7FkrIr0xIKjevdUT5ux.html.

How nice to hear from you, Lilian! I'm glad you enjoyed this music and hope you will listen to the whole series (I've posted ten already, and there should be seven more to go).

(05/07/2024; 13:43 hs.)
Saludos.
Thank you Stephen! I have so thoroughly enjoyed listening this morning. I find that you often obtain so many bell like rings and chimes as well as developing more lilt. This has been a comfort to me with that beautiful light of hope that seems to pervade Celtic music. Though life might be difficult at times tears may fall through smiling eyes. It is music that reaches higher than resigned circumstance that makes you sad. I think it is because it has an anchor of light, joy, and hopeful anticipation as I've mentioned. It wards off the despair of darkness by offering a balm of comfort. I loved all of these pieces but in particular the second one and second last one for some reason. Perhaps they soothed my soul in a special way. As disturbing as this world can be it isn't always easy to find things that acknowledge your feelings and also uplift you in spirit! Thank you for sharing!🙌🤍
As you may know, Nissi, Renaissance and baroque music are my favorites, and there is little folk music that really appeals to me. Celtic music, however, is an exception. I too find something inexplicably comforting and uplifting about it, something I cannot explain and would not have expressed as well as you did. I don't know whether other people experience this music the way you do, but offering the possibility of experiences like yours is the reason I do it. As always, thank you for listening and especially for your wonderful kindness in commenting.

Da fliegt kaum was wek. PS.

I love the sound of this harp. I have a Lyon & Healy pedal harp and it sounds too ‘thumpy’ compared to this instrument. What is the difference….the strings….the soundboard? I have to put a little piezo mic on it and run it through a small stage amp to get the sustain I am craving.
I have just the opposite problem. My bass strings sustain for about fifteen seconds, which really muddles the harmony. I ended up winding a strip of felt between them to dampen them. I've thought about using gut strings, which I use on all my lutes, but they go out of tune so easily that I would spend more time tuning than playing.
