oldschool adventure
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 มี.ค. 2020
Emerging from the delirium of mid-life demands and responsibilities, this channel is my effort to focus on bringing the oldschool outdoor experience into 2020. I am now officially a weekend warrior but remain a nylon hippie at heart. My goal is to humorously explore the interface between a love of wilderness and adventure and the limiting factors that life throws out way (financials, parenting, career, marriage and more) with the hope of keeping all of this in balance. Of course, all this will hang on things like gear reviews and hacks, trip planning and adventures and other stuff that comes to mind, like untold stories and antidotes from my 15 years as a wilderness guide and instructor across country and Western hemisphere. I hope y’all find some of my stuff interesting and helpful.

Feedback Sports Bike Stand Review
มุมมอง 136ปีที่แล้ว
Good but not great bike stand for home repairs and washing you bike. I attempted a seat post repair last week and despite a lot of cranking, the arm that holds the bike couldn’t firmly hold the bike when I put a lot of pressure on the seat post. Had to put the bike on the ground to put the pressure necessary to do the job (maybe too much pressure but it was pretty annoying). Check out the video...

Ortlieb vs. Rhinowalk (Waterfly) Waterproof Panniers
มุมมอง 9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I have been looking for affordable panniers for a new off-road touring setup. Here is my unboxing and first impression of the Ortlieb BackRoller 20L and the Rhinowalk (branded Wayerfly) 20 L waterproof read panniers. Expect a follow up in April after we run these through the paces on a 3- day backcountry-ish ride in North Georgia! Feedback is welcome as this is a new endeavor!
Thanks so much for making this video and responding to comments. These are the exact two bags I'm considering.
Hey man, is that what Patagonia calls ''Nouveau Green'' color?
I am thinking about getting a new waterprrof jacket and this is one of the jackets I quite fancy. Your review helped. Regards from the UK
Nice thanks brother
Because hum …I’m a beast 😂 Nice review 👍

Love this i sub! 🤟🏼👍🏽
Thanks!
ingenious method. i use a strap removed headlamp fastened to the stem in 3 zip ties.
That’s super cool. I was thinking about zip ties but was concerned the light would wobble. Were you able to get it pretty tight? I mounted some water bottle holders in the fork of my bikepacking ride with zip ties and they work great.
@@oldschooler2020 super secure and i can replace the batteries very easy. i did already 5 rides with this setup and no issues whatsoever.
Bro , I cut up my old inter tube and mounted light on my fork. I can send you a picture if you request. I really appreciate your post
That’s exactly what I’m talking about. If it works go for it! Thanks for responding. I’d love to see a pic of your setup. I’m sure some others would too!
I just got the less technical Patagonia Slate Sky and am loving it. Got to test drive in the rain here in Sacramento yesterday and was impressed. The Torrentshell is a lot more durable but a bit to baggy for me.
Patagonia generally makes some sweet gear. Do you have any of their other stuff? I have a fleece vest I use some when it’s colder.
Have you thought of doing a long time review of these bags. There is very little TH-cam content on Rhinowalk gear.
That’s a great ideas. I will add some soon.
I love your videos! Your knowledge and insight is super helpful! I love videos that are shot in real time, it looks like reality which so many people try to hide. Keep on doing what you do and going on all those adventures, can’t wait to see your channel explode!!!!!
love your videos, your smile always makes me happy!!
epic setup looks like it was a fun trip, thanks for sharing all of your knowledge!
your right dad, great job!
what an epic set up! how much did it weigh?
great job
how was it??
Well. Truth be told I rode my old Fisher Hookooeekoo into the ground on that trip. Made it up to Table Rock. Spent a day hiking and taking in the views. And then rode back down to the brewery and had a kick ass dinner and a few beers before heading home. Total mileage was about 60 miles. It was worth the effort though. I’m taking on smaller efforts since that trip.
Cheers for the vid and in one take, well done
When you mention using zip ties, I cringe lol Yeah, they will definitely keep your panniers on there, but I like being able to take them off quickly and easily. You just saved me from buying a Rhinowalk. That thing was jingling all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh.
this is so stupid, they know nowadays mtb bikes come with aggressive style frame, so you bought a rack and you need to buy that additional bar to make upper part of your frame to be parallel to the ground so you can actually hang the bike, omg. I should probably design one that dies not require any additional stuff to buy. I am gonna go do just that, I'll let you know when I am a millionaire and send you one for free.
Heavy load on that car. Ready for the weekend!
Thank you for the video. I always like reviews done by real people. Maybe next time you would consider not recording a vertical video. It only covers one third of the computer screen making details more difficult to see.
I just received mines from the mail man today and I’m having the hardest time installation the rhino bag so I came to your video
Thanks for this review. Very helpful. I just bought a used Ridgeback, and I'm loading mostly girls' bikes on it, and it is a pain because I don't have the tube top frame adapter for them. I didn't realize Walmart had these adapters until I saw your video. Do you know what the model number is for the one you bought there, by chance?
SO many bad boys!
I like the look of the Waterfly and it seemed to work better in this video. Be careful with those fork mounts. I had a strap get into the front tire before and lucky it just snapped in my case. Otherwise over the handlebars you go and with likely a wrecked wheel. Rear wheel tie down mistakes will just skid and with much less pressure on the wheel!
Thanks man! Good heads up. I actually went ass over end last week in my mtn bike but that was because I got scared, braked hard on a corner and before I know it, face plant! Ouch! Hurts to be 50.
If you only can choose one, which one you choose? Having present that the ortlieb cost twice than the rhinowalk! Excuse my english, a hug from Colombia!
Hola Julio, just based on cost, I would definitely get the Rhinowalk/Waterfly! It is a great pannier and works super well. I like things to last a long time, so I will have to post an update after these bags get a few miles on them! Chao!
@@bliss3600 oki, so it's been about a year now since your comment, what say you about the the Rhinowalk pannier bags? Should I get ortlieb or rhino?
They are both good to go. I’d go for the less expensive one unless you have money to burn. Ortleibs are more well made overall but regarding durability and functionality… no different. They both hold your stuff. They both attach securely to the bike. They are both good bags.
Привет!Какая вам больше понравилась?Сам выбираю.
Hey thanks so much for watching and sorry for the delay in responding. I have to say that they are both great, but overall, the Ortlieb pannier is superior, if cost were not an issue. It has a few features that make it more functional. 1. It has a nice firm plastic sheet the back of the bag that makes packing and overall strength of the bag more functional. 2. closure on the bag is more versatile and easier to use when the bag is loaded. I would say this though, if I had to pay full price for the Ortleib, I would go with the Waterfly... strictly based on cost.
