    Correction:Tchaikovsky, is Russia's most famous composer, he was born in Russia, not the USSR. He would have abhorred, communism, as did Russia's other great composer Rachmaninoff, he left the soviet Union, for America.

      That is said in the context of Van Cliburn winning the Tchaikovsky competition 1958, meaning that the competition, was named after the most famous composer in the, at that time, USSR.

    The trouble I have with much of Schubert's piano works is he stays pretty much in the middle range of the keyboard; gets monotonous after awhile; Love his symphonies though.

    After a third failed attempt of a national cycling record today, I found myself unable to fall asleep. Finally, at 2:30 in the morning, I came upon this video of my favorite composer, Schubert. Per wiped away my disappointment of the day with his sublime performances of Standchen, Gretchen and The EarlKoenig, as well as the G-flat Impromptu. Thank you, Per for your insight into the life of Schubert. His life puts into perspective how few of us will be remembered, as his contributions will go on for centuries and beyond...

    Currently learning this one, I think you highlight the humour in this really well. There's a constant sense of expectation-subversion - contrasting moods and then suddenly a completely unexpected shift in tempo. In fact, the musical ideas like the one between b.71-75 is exactly how I take it -- like a pompous aria reaching its climax!

    This is one of the most eccentric performances that I have ever heard. That said, it's also one of the most riveting performances I've ever heard. I know this piece very well and I never sit through recordings of it. But this one made the music fresh and alive. I loved it.

    After watching all your series of this documental I can only say THANKS. I cannot stop crying. This was a wonderful explanation of one of the greatest composers ever (for me the best). I wish I could watch them before, but never is too late. How you put all the separated musicians together to play,... incredible. I wish he could live for many more years, imagine what he could do if he lived a longer life. Thanks Per for the best documentary on schubert but also about the story of Music in early XIX!

  • @natmusiclifts
    @natmusiclifts 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I really loved all your videos about Schubert and how you are explaining every single detail not only from his personal biography but also about the historical context and the music. I strongly believe that Schubert is the most underrated composer of the History of Music, even his operas are incredibly amazing - Sakontala (the unfinished), Alfonso und Estrella... all the lieders... I remember the story about his friend in prision. I also have the think that at the end his character or personality was very special and concrete but I don´t believe that he was only a composer for small circles, since he wrote operas and big symphonies that are of course done for bigger scenarios.
