That sounds like a bad air compressor, my 03 did the same thing
i bought a set and the top arms have about 1”1/2 space on both sides where caps are at would have to put about 4 spacers on each side to make them work and the bottom set dont even bolt up they dont even slide in place.

Check flywheel it may be cracked or loose. My buddy had a nova one time with a double hump head 40 over 350 and it started knocking it's ass off. No smoke no blow by but knocking it's ass off. Went to change engines and the flywheel was busted all to hell!

check flexplate!! oftentimes when they Crack it will make an odd noise like a rod knock and sometimes will squeal
I sold it about a year ago. It ended up being a crack in the header at the weld

You replaced the blower engine?
It was trash. Cam was worn down on a couple of lobes and the black was decked all the way down and the heads were junk. The na 383 had way more power
