      Oh how exciting! It's been so fun canning; I wish I grew up with mentors to show me, because I would of started way before 55 y/o... I do know if you think you have any issues with your lid (gauge problems or if you accidentally drop it); All American company states to send it to them and they will test it. I am sure you'd have to pay but at least they will do it. I've been told they will let you know if it is okay or if you need replacement. Just keep that in mind if you ever have those issues.

Make 2 meals out of it. 1- Roast in crock with gravy,1/2 onion 🧅 1/2 bell pepper 🫑 2 tablespoons of brown gravy, add carrots and potatoes Served over rice about $7 2- cut the rest of the roast into cubes for vegetable beef soup, use 1/2 can diced tomatoes 1/2 pack beefy onion flavor dry soup, 2 russett potatoes and a bag of mixed vegetables. Cornbread’s ( jiffy) About $7 2 meals for $14-$15

    Please make more of these videos, very helpful for so many families. I live where groceries are a bit more and Walmart carries very few fresh and frozen items, but I followed you meal plans and did an online order as best I could. For the canned chicken and frozen turkey I subbed a bag of 4 lbs frozen chicken legs and canned potatoes for the instant potatoes. I had enough left over to add in a can of peas and a can of carrots. My total was $29.65. I will be making your meal ideas this week. I try once a week to make a homemade soup, leftovers can be used as soup or a different dish

      Thank you; I will try definitely! I'm right in the middle of trying to get all my Fall cleaning done by the end of this month (I'm real close). Just getting ideas and doing the research definitely is so helpful! I want to make more soups with leftovers but my husband takes most of the leftover for his lunches; which that's okay too. I wish I had another store to turn to in my small town but we do not.... I hate to just get a few things in another town when it costs just as much in gas to go. I told my husband we need to make a day of errands to have an excuse for my bigger hauls... Have a great day!

    • @Homemakingwithmema
      @Homemakingwithmema 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your comment! In the United States; it is asked that when you have an American Flag that is worn to the point of replacement; to burn properly with a dedication of pride. The American Legion folks in my area, have a ceremony with Honor Guard, Fire Dept. (with the proper equipment to burn and extinguish), Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts if they wish; to do this. The first time I went I was so surpised how many people donated, was probably over 100. Also; Flags that covered service men and women at their funerals; and families want to donate those as well are done. I actually went one time to the thrift store locally and asked if they had any; (ones that covered caskets of military service people) because I heard they do NOT resell them in our area and they actually had a box of them; so those were burned with honor as well.

    I didn't know that "nobody" uses bookends anymore, but I do! 😊 And yes, I did get most of them at thrift stores so people are donating them. Happy to see someone else is using their guest bedroom for storage. In our new house, we are planning on putting two shelf units in the guest bedroom to store little used items or things bought in large quantities. Hoping to box up most of it to cut down on dusting (I live in Arizona). Have never seen the larger green tupperware before. It must be newer. My celery keeper is the small one like you have and is 56 years old! You did a great job on your shelves!

Oh yes, the kids are grown up and I have utilized rooms to my needs but kept a few for sleepovers; one room downstairs is my pantry with bookshelves and canning shelves. Have a Great Day!

      Thank you for your question. Yes I do; I do not use milk though; I use sour cream or cream cheese. Just my preference. After you thaw them in the refrigerator; put them in a microwave safe dish; microwave 2 min increments, stir, continue for at least 7-8 min total. They will seem "soupy" at first; but I promise they will stiffen up and BAM.... Mashed taters homemade.

    What was the vinegar used for?

    • @Homemakingwithmema
      @Homemakingwithmema 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry I didn't mention that; I use vinegar to wipe the top and side rims of the jars as if any juices drip on the jars; the seal of the canning lid could be compromised; especially if there is a fat (grease). Vinegar cuts through any possible grease. I don't remember if I mentioned as well; I add a splash of vinegar to my canner water as the minerals in my tap water make my jars cloudy on the outside; the vinegar helps keep that down. Have a great day!

      Thank you for you input; all ideas, suggestions and just knowing others are doing the same is so much appreciated! I love that you admit you just go and admire you efforts; because I seriously do the same thing but did not want to admit it; thinking I was weird for doing it!! I'm not, it truly is a BLESSING from our Lord!!

      That is so AWESOME!! It is such a great feeling is it not!! We just had spaghetti to a few days ago, and yes I pulled a home canned sauce with meat off my shelf and it was done in no time! Keep up your efforts for you and you family, as it is working!

    Have you compared the cost of bottled salsa with making yours with canned tomatoes? I think when you grow tomatoes it would be considerably less, but wondered about purchased tomatoes. Just curious.

      I have not.... Oh i'm sure it is much less. I was quite frankly just going the quicker route. Bad on my part but I do more pressure canning than I do waterbath canning. Thanks for the question!

      I totally agree! The bacon has gone up again; almost everything has gone up just in a month; what I am seeing. We only pray that after our elections we get some sort of a relief, no matter how it all turns out. Thank you for your comment!

      Thank you for the question. This recipe was not mine to share; I looked it up on another youtuber channel; Suttonsdaze is the name of the channel. Hope that helps.

    I saw you were using your crockpot. They say to never lock it when cooking because they can blow up. Too much pressure builds up. Please be careful 🤗

      Thank you! Never thought of that.... especially if you leave the house for multiple hours; that wouldn't be good at all!
