Not only we CAN feel and express what we feel now, I think these days we're letting too much out into the world. Certain feelings are best kept inside, out of respect for ourselves (and others).

I just stumbled upon this. Thank you so much!!! I am so happy to see women changing the face of sound engineering and production, a long-time male-dominated industry. Once upon a time, I wanted nothing more than to be a recording engineer and producer. Of course, that never happened to me. I was painfully insecure as a very young woman, and was completely talked out of pursuing that dream by Bob Lanois in his studio, the one he and brother Daniel Lanois opened in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. When I met Bob, I was looking for guidance and hopeful that he would encourage me and give me some wonderful advice before I started the music industry arts program at Fanshawe College (I had already been accepted). This is what he told me - and I will never forget it: "Don't do it. You will never be taken seriously because you are a woman. You will never make any money. You will be mixing crappy bands in crappy clubs and getting treated like crap. Don't waste your time." I gave up then and there. I left so deflated, and to this day, it is the one and only regret I have in my life. I made the mistake of listening to him instead of following my heart and my dream. I am so happy to hear successful women sharing their experiences with the world and encouraging women to follow their dreams. ❤

The part about how you have to be GREAT at the thing you love to do but also (at least good) at promoting what you do because you need to show folks that it's possible for women (and other minorities) to do it! It is a responsibility to both go the way and show the way! I don't get the technical recording stuff and some of this went over my head but I enjoyed the conversation immensely! Thank you!
