Fly Fishing A Southern California Creek for WILD Rainbow Trout | FLY FISHING CALIFORNIA
When you think about Southern California, chances are you think of warm weather, sunny beaches, crazy traffic, astronomical cost of living and amazing food. What you likely don’t think of are mountain streams full of wild trout. Places like that are usually associated with alpine environments like the Sierra, Rockies, or the Northwest. But as unlikely as it may seem, Southern California has its own hidden gems ready to be discovered by those with a bit of know-how and an extra dose determination.
As a Southern California native and an avid fly fisherman, I've spent the last couple of years seeking out these spots, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that if you want to catch wild trout here, you’ll have to work for it-this usually involves no small amount of researching, hiking, and bushwhacking. But finding these wild fish in an area where they survive against all odds is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as an angler, almost like striking gold. This time around, I headed up into the mountains outside of the greater Los Angeles area to fish a stream full of wild rainbow trout hoping for a great day-the fish and the terrain definitely made sure that my work would be cut out for me, but it was a great day nonetheless.

Mountain Lake Full of FOOTBALL Sized Rainbow & Brook Trout | Grand Mesa | FLY FISHING COLORADO
มุมมอง 13K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
I went up to one of my favorite lakes on the Grand Mesa along with my dad and father-in-law. We spent the day battling intermittent rain, but the fatties that were hitting our nets on almost every cast and the beautiful scenery more than made up for it. The Grand Mesa is an incredible place to explore and fish. Instagram: trout.addiction
FLY FISHING COLORADO | Riding Horses To Fish For NATIVE Cutthroat Trout | High Country

When your older brother suggests saddling up the horses and riding up to the high country stream you've been wanting to fish for native Colorado cutthroat trout, you say, "Please and thank you." Here's a little highlight video of that day. Come along for the ride to one of the most beautiful places I've been fortunate enough to fish. Instagram: trout.addiction
FLY FISHING COLORADO | Float Fishing For Hungry WILD Brown Trout | Gunnison River
มุมมอง 5K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Fishing the legendary Gunnison River from a float raft is a special experience that has long been on my bucket list. So when the chance to get out on the water with my buddy Preston presented itself last Summer, I jumped at the opportunity. With gorgeous weather and clear skies, we hitched up the raft, loaded up our gear, and made our way down to the river for what would hopefully be an epic da...
FLY FISHING COLORADO | Native Cutthroat Trout | Alpine Lakes
มุมมอง 4.8K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the middle of Summer 2023, my wife and I hiked up to one of my favorite clusters of alpine lakes in western Colorado. With heavy winds and quite a bit of snowpack still on the peaks, the day wasn't without its fair share of challenges, but thankfully the hard work paid off and I was rewarded with some beautiful fish and some great memories. Fly Fishing For ARCTIC GRAYLING In A Colorado Alpine Stream | High Country | FLY FISHING COLORADO
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
The Arctic Grayling is hands down one of my favorite fish to catch on a fly rod. Not only are they stunning to look at with their colored up sail fins, these fish also put on a show by often aggressively exploding on dry flies in a way that has you grinning ear to ear, and they fight a lot harder for their size when compared to their trout cousins. While Grayling aren't native to Colorado, they...

Beautiful! Subbed!
Because it’s somewhere else not here in so Cal.
I can tell that you're worked up by the dozen or so comments you've left calling me a liar, though I'm not sure why; I have no reason to lie. Believe me or don't, I don't really care, but I can assure you that this stream is 100% in Southern California. Have you ever considered the possibility that there may be spots that you haven't discovered?
Answer your own Questions with your experience not somebody who cast to a stream wher the fish are not
Don’t ask questions that this guy can’t answer count on your own experience if you do, that will tell you that you saw that he doe not even know wher the fish are ina stream
The only stream that has wild trout after being born and raised in Southern California is not full of rainbow trout but Browns so quit telling stories
They don’t even stock the damn anymore so the fish won’t eat the arroyo toad eggs
And they don’t let you in there anymore because of the arroyo toad is going extinct
You can’t have that in southern California the only stream thst has wild trout starts at Buckhorn flats off of Highway 2 and ends in Little Rock damn
It’s not a great video it’s a lie
Can’t get anywhere closer to southern CA . Than where I live so tell the truth because you a r nt being truth full
Tell the truth
You need to tell any one where it ix because it’s not where you say it is
We’re is this stream or creek no where near me & I was V born and raised in Antelope Valley CA.so tell it to someone else
We’re is this stream or creek no where near me & I was V born and raised in Antelope Valley CA.so tell it to someone else
I need you to send me a pin, for research purposes. Seriously though. I dont get around real well anymore so being able to drive right to it would be super helpful. Which lake is that?
Beautiful spot and a great fish!
Another great video sir! Nice to see unspoiled places like this in the greater LA area.
Family, fly fishing, and beautiful scenery! Good times!
Yes, it’s as much about the beautiful scenery as it is about the fishing!
what are you casting in this video? I was noticing you cast in the riffles of the pools, if thats a dry fly your casting how do you keep it from submerging?
I believe I was fishing a dry dropper. I don't remember the exact fly, but my dry fly was either a stimulator or a small chubby chernobyl. If you apply some good floatant every so often it'll stay floating. I was also using some really small nymphs.
What do you use for research? Google earth? /maps?
Any and all of the above. I'll scour the internet, Google earth, books, and maps for any information I can find and go from there. Some places end up being busts, but sometimes you strike gold.
No I researched my whole life with boots kn the ground
On the ground
So if this is not a story then tell us where the stream is
Tv as th s wha th I know your full of ______
I hate you hot spotters
Nice location, great river! Thanks for the video.
Great spot, I camp right down the road from there and we always stop at that lake
Calling a 16 to 17 inch fish a f****** big fish you just lost all credit bud
@@Hancock-r2v Hey man, I see that you’ve commented three separate times already. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the video; feel free to skip my channel if it’s not your cup of tea. Everyone’s idea of what qualifies as a big fish is different relative to their experience, and I got excited over what were some pretty nice fish for me. It sounds like you’re used to regularly catching some pretty big fish; that’s awesome, and I wish you continued success. Have a great day.
What’s stopping you from starting your own YT channel?
I hate getting clickbaited to see average size rainbows this is my backyard stop exaggerating dude like there is real football trout around here but you have not found them
Dude I live right down the hill those are nowhere near footballs man football trout are four to five pounds plus dude let's stop exaggerating those are average fish for the Mesa
Loved the rain-dappled release, beautiful country!!
Hey bro I feel kinda bad for even asking but would you mind telling me the name of this lake?
Would love to be there with a handful of my rods
Wifey and I were there 3-4 years ago. Drove it from East to West. Didn’t fish it, but had a cougar walk by our Camper the first night. A bear walked by about 75 yards away. Then driving the next day we saw lots of fine deer and moose. A beautiful drive!
Whats flies were you using?
Late reply here, but I started the day with a dry dropper - purple chubby chernobyl on top and a pheasant tail of some sort underneath, and then later on I switched to stripping a black leech.
Great Video! I will subscribe if tell me which lake this is.... I just moved 10 minutes from the Grand Mesa. Sharing is caring Bro!😆
What lake of the grand mesa were you guys at? Awesome content!
Went up there today. That lake has the biggest trout on the whole mesa! Thanks for the info🎉
I fished with a 3wt and 4lb tippet. GREAT fights
Glad you had a great time! This one's got some hogs for sure, but there are lakes with even bigger fish on the Mesa if you know where to look. That's what I love about this place, so much to explore!
I never noticed the Grayling fighting any harder than the trout in any of that drainage. Are you calling the inlet an Alpine Stream?
great vid, love local fishing
Cheers, my man!
Great vid man! That’s an area I actually don’t recognize. You’ll have to DM me that creek, not that I’ll hit it up any time soon unfortunately. I’m just curious if it’s a spot I know.
Can’t believe you can have that in Southern California. Great video!
theyre in san diego too!

Amazing! Again, which lake is this?

Do one ever get tired of catching footballs? Nope, never!
Is this near grand junction ? Beautiful lake thanks for the great video ✌
Yes. It's in both delta and Mesa county and it's the biggest flat top mountain in the world
Wow, this is so amazing! Beautiful!
Great Day! Which lake is this?
Only a moron asks

Super sick! Great content!
So much fun, AWESOME!
Wow! Supreme content. Beautiful spot.
Just WOW! What a great time of fishing, I cannot wait to learn more about fly fishing. Of course a beautiful and productive lake in Colorado does not hurt. Good job Paul. God bless
