Welcome to DG Aerobatics - my aim with this channel is to help others in the flying community and offer some interesting information that I've gathered over the years, mainly through personal trial and lots of error!
I've been into model aircraft since a small child and have been flying radio control for 35 years plus. I have competed in IMAC and Freestyle for years and have been fortunate to win all the classes and win the overall IMAC UK Unlimited and Freestyle title twice so far. The best bit is making lots of good friends along the way in this fabulous hobby.

ED 2.46 Racer
My Grandads' old ED 2.46 Racer running again after a 35 ish year lay off! He gave this engine to me when I was a child and I used to run it up in the garden. Will find a control line model to build for it!
The prop is not ideal but it's the only one I had laying around, will consult the Model Aero Engine Encyclopedia for the right one!

Hi all, Here I talk about the BMFA 'C' test for fixed wing aerobatics. The 'C' is a very worthwhile test to undergo within the excellent BMFA Achievement Scheme. Whilst not a full run down, I suggest various things that may help a bit for pilot's wishing to do to the test - good luck! Thank you to my sponsors: J Perkins Aerobatx Futaba UK AZ Aerosports

How do you know it’s a rock solid link? Futaba doesn’t have RSSI or VFR. You assume it’s a solid link, way behind the times.
Nicely explained 👍
@@iman80skid91 Thank you for your comment 👍🏻DG
Was told today from a reliable source that the T26SZ will not make it to the USA till November! This is because it is being manufactured in Taiwan and not China (where the ones that are available now are).
Today Futaba is the worst radio on the market
Why? Do you mind i asking.
@@heron9524 not performance for most expencive price.
I naver used Fasst so it's a non issue for me. I use Futaba for the telemetey. Works great.
That's good to hear! 👍🏻 DG
Serious shortcomings, keep the 16 or 18
?? care to expand on this?
Futaba USA is still asleep and still isn't advertising this new transmitter:( Hopefully it is currently going thru FCC Certification and it will be here soon? Looking to replace my great T18SZH Transmitter which is over 8 years old but still works fine. I don't think it is really necessary to go with the 900MHz option as I never had a problem.
@@michaeltrager4381 Thanks for your comment, yes I hope the T26SZ arrives in the USA 🇺🇲 soon. Very pleased with my set and like you, have had the T18 for a similar amount of time - been a great transmitter and will still use it alongside the T26SZ. DG👍🏻
I have many Futaba radios as 18mz wc, 18 sz 70 anniversary, 16sz and 16iz super and i have to say is a big mistake from Futaba to remove FASST protocoll, they have lost a lot of buyers for this reason and i think 2 screen with the same information is not necessary at all, bad purchase in my opinion, thanks for sharing your video mate, regards from Spain
@@VipiModel-nk3ce Thanks for your comment 🇪🇸, great to hear you have a good selection of Futaba transmitters. Flew mine yesterday and found the top screen useful so guess it's an individual thing. Guessing a lot of pilots are on FASSTest and protocols other than FASST, but yes can understand what you mean👍🏻. Best wishes, DG 🇬🇧
No FASST no sale !!!!
From what i believe. The fasst protocol does not meet EU requirements any longer. Something to do with EU regulations changing in the last few years. So i think Futaba had no choice but to drop the Fasst protocol.
Nice one.
Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
Good info Dan. I see you are not yet needing shorts and T shirt in the ‘far north!’ 😄 It would be nice to see the 78” fly a bit of IMAC. Maybe we can grab a bit of video when you are down , weather permitting!
Thanks Ally! Thought I'd document it a little bit. Yeah it's still freezing up here, more like winter flying all over again! Yes, she's flying a good sequence now and would be good to get a flying video if poss. All the best 👍
badass dude
And that ladies and gentlemen is what happens when you have more thrust than weight.
Nice, I recently bought this plane from someone. Really looking forward to flying it.
Nice one👍🏻 good luck with your new plane and thanks for commenting, DG
That's great. Howard Hughes was right when he said you need a few clouds in the background :)
Thank you for the comment, yes very true about the clouds! DG 🙂
Interesting, especially with my C test coming up next week. Did you get anybody to video your flight, would be great to see. Of the 7 optionals I have only got one in common which I see as a good thing allowing pilots who fly different styles to take the test.
Thanks for your comment, yes agree it's a good thing to have a variety of optional figures to fly, enabling precision to be flown as well as 3D. Also it allows a wider range of models to be used 👍🏻 Good luck with your C test and hope the video helps a bit. DG
Sorry, no video of the flight I don't think. I may fly the figures again as a tutorial and get them videoed in future. 👍🏻
Done at BMFA North Achievement Day. Only person there who'd seen a C test before was Andy Symonds.
Great job, Dan! Throw some more 3D tutorials on here!
Thank you 👍🏻 Yes, will do a couple more when weather allows and someone is there to film 🙂👍🏻
This looks like a fun model. Were there two versions of this model free flight and R/C? I would much perfer the free flight version. Thank you
Thank you for the comment. On the plan it is for single channel rudder only with f/f option. I made this one with a threaded pushrod adjustable rudder for f/f. I have made a second one since this video for 2 channel radio on rudder and elevator, for the PAW 80 motor and it flys really well. Best wishes if you decide to build one 👍DG
Cheers!
Thank you for commenting 👍
you must be very limber to be able to climb in that thing
Haha yes, can just about fit in it for a flight 🙂
Lovely model very nicely flown. What engine? Sounds like maybe an OS 48 FS?
Hi, thank you - fun model to fly on a calm evening 👍🏻 The motor is an ASP 52.
What are some large scale model types you’d suggest to do 3D
Hi, yes any of the Pilot RC aerobatic models and of course Extreme Flight and Flex Innovations models. Depends how large scale you want to go, but a 74-78" model will do all the things a 35% will do at much less build cost and running cost. Extra NG's and Slicks offer a locked in precision feel while still being awesome 3D machines. In addition, some of the older designs are great for getting into 3D as they are less aggressive in nature. DG👍

Hi....... the wings incidence must to be 0°
Thank you for the info 👍 DG
Hi sorry my english .....the position of CG in this model wings is to 0°??
@@avionette that's ok, I've got the CG position 100mm back from the leading edge of the top wing. Flys lovely at this CG point 👍🏻
Had to be the one where the magnetic nose fell off!😂 Still loving the Avanti, fantastic fun model. 👍
Great flight Ally and the nose falling off doesn't notice! Easily done on the bumpy grass. 👍🏻
Great flying!
Thank you, enjoyed that flight 🙂
Great flying and a beautiful model, also some pretty good camera work. The S.E. 5, one of the best boom 'n' zoomers of the First World War... personally I prefer Sopwith and Hawker aircraft.
Glad you enjoyed it👍🏻. The SE5 is definitely a fun model to fly and in that size, convenient for transport. Would love a Sopwith or Hawker, maybe one day! Thanks for your comment - DG
Scale speed of 3oo to 400 Kts, but nice.
haha yes a bit fast, I will slow her down a bit on the next flights. Thank you👍
The Se5a is my favorite WWl fighter. Very nice flight!
Yes there is something about a WW1 fighter, bit of air about them. Thanks, glad you liked it! DG

Very cool. Great combo.
Thank you! She really is an enjoyable model to fly.
Very helpful video 👍 How do you have your receivers connected to, the S.bus port or S.bus2 ports on each one? Thanks
Hi, thanks for you comment. I have connected to the sbus2 ports on both receivers. Make sure that rx1 on your tx is the one connected to the rx1 port on the Pioneer, otherwise the telemetry isn't available (for example - if rx2 is unintentionally connected to rx1 port on the Pioneer). Hope this helps 👍🏻
@@dgaerobatics1764 Awesome 👌 Thank's a lot for the help
Do you use esc bec for servo power? Separate bec? Thanks
Hi, just using the esc bec on this model. The esc bec is rated at 10amps so more than enough. The other option is to use a small lipo pack if you wish and change it out every couple of flights, which some pilots do. It doesn't add much weight. I use on-board battery in models bigger than 60". Hope that helps 👍🏻
@@dgaerobatics1764 thanks!
Think that’s a good size looking at getting something in the 60” range… been using smaller or foam planes for my go to model but they just don’t fly that great
@@slange455Yes they're a good convenient size and in the sweet spot for 6s 4000 packs. Thanks for commenting and good luck, DG
Nice work. ML
Thank you for commenting on my video Mark, what an honour! I built her in 2015 and she's still going strong. Best wishes, Dan.
Nice Flight!
Thank you 👍🏻🙂
Hi, Is there any danger for the plane going into a spin ?
Hi, the model shouldn't go into a spin if there is enough elevator travel on 3D rates and only small amounts of rudder/aileron are used, to keep the model on the right track. Even if the model does spin, it will be a gentle upright or inverted flat spin and you almost have to make it spin by applying lots of rudder. Hope the helps and thanks for your comment. 👍🏻
@@dgaerobatics1764 Thanks for your answer.
Hi Dan, great to see the old girl in your capable hands. I had many years enjoyment with it, but had to part with her to make room and space for the 107” Extra and everything else! You can’t beat a big bipe for fun. Can’t wait to see you fly her this summer. I wish you many happy flights with her. Ally.
Thanks Ally, she sure is a great fun plane to fly as you know. 👍🏻 The 107 of yours is well worthy of the hangar space!
Congrats 👏 One of the best flights I've ever watched...
Thank you! 👍🏻 glad you liked the flight 🙂
Which engine standoffs do you have on this airframe for the GP123?
Hi, Backplate to prop driver on the GP123 is 157.5mm. Firewall to prop driver on the Laser is in the region of 196.5 to 197.5 which gives 2-3 mm gap. I made up laser cut spacers totalling 40mm from plywood and cyanoed them together to give the required standoff length. Hope this helps 👍
@@dgaerobatics1764 Thank you so much for sharing this information. Do you remember which bolts did you used?
@@Wilmer787 Hi, yes ended up using M6x70mm socket cap screws. They did the trick 👍🏻
@@dgaerobatics1764 Its me again ✌️ What CG setting do you have in this Laser?
@@Wilmer787 Hi, that's alright! CG on this plane is on the recommended CG position. It flips around the wing tube at that point. I have since moved the batteries back a bit from the position in the video.👍
Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
