Tour America Martin’s show with Timothy Tew of TEW Galleries.
TEW Galleries is pleased to announce its fifth solo show for America Martin, a prolific Colombian-American artist living and working in Los Angeles. This is just one of seventy solo shows she’s had over the last twenty years-adding to her ever-growing reputation as someone to be watched and collected.
America says that her favorite things show up in her paintings: the people she’s met, the books she’s read, the sun and beach, the flowers she grows, barking dogs, birds, and campfires. In America’s art, we immediately recognize friendly faces, joyous color, elegant lines, and bold shapes. Her work is made undeniably original by her distinct visual palette and unique pictorial language.
From the Pop Art-like flatness of her backgrounds to forms that have the blocky sensuality of Pre-Colombian art, America mixes and reinterprets a wide range of influences to create her own style. Most striking are references to the French modernists Matisse, Picasso, and Leger, School of Paris artists whose influence still looms large. In fact, that influence has forced subsequent generations of artists to go in other directions to avoid direct comparison. With America’s arrival on the scene, we realize that times have truly changed.
Artists have always drawn inspiration from other artists. In 1865, the French modernist painter Édouard Manet visited Madrid to see the paintings of the great 17th century Spanish master Velázquez in the Prado Museum. Manet came away dramatically influenced by the work he had seen, mainly because his guiding artistic ambition was referencing contemporary culture through art historical tradition.
In their own way, each of the artists I represent shares Manet’s goal-one that I embrace too. As such, their art gives expression to who I am. But it took the powerful works of America Martin to give voice to an overlooked aspect of myself. Her collectors probably feel the same way, for she has created a style that is indelibly her own and yet one that nods knowingly to past masters.
These are the elements that constitute America Martin’s position in the art world and as mentioned earlier, adds to her ever-growing reputation as an artist to watch and collect.
TEW Galleries is honored to represent America. We hope you’ll take time to drop by the gallery to see her show and experience the unique world we’ve created with art. Please visit our website too and acquaint yourselves with our complete inventory.

‘Larger than life persona’ code for ‘Campery’ and constantly being on a form of repeating replay, nothing metaphysical about any of that.
I'd like to buy a painting.
Absolutely loved hearing this description and seeing examples of the famous rabbits!
Generally when there is such a large volume of art in a space it detracts from the visual experience. It's important to create an ideal atmosphere for knowledgeable buyers who are serious about art. Having so much on display makes it difficult to maintain a consistent level of quality. This place is a real mix in that way, some work is obviously better than others.
I have some of his prints. Wonderful stories. I like how the two microphones are panned hard.
Amazing video - I learnt so many things!!
Thank you for the Gallery tour :)
Nice lecture, but he's definitely not awe inspiring, his work is little more than painted wall paper, which is fine if that's what people want to buy. Also who's considered important is not on inherent worth but about luck of getting noticed. Plenty of better work unseen and unknown.
Agree, it’s all about being at the right time and the right place, having a noticeable persona perhaps, knowing how to market yourself and being in the right circles of network. The lecture sort of belittles many artists and the title of the video is not even matching to the lecture, I didn’t understand in what the phenomenon is.
He should just paint and not talk.
Wow so nice 👏
Beautiful
Hunt Slonem !!!!
It could be good to expose my art there where I can found information to be able to do it I’m from Colombia. I live in Cartagena de Indias

My favorite artist
Here comes the.... S🎨E🎨L🎨L
Brilliant painter and extraordinary thinker. His sensitive intellect and bright humor are a delight.
AMERICA?
Great use of line, color and freedom with form without twisting with words. The figure is so important to art, great to take it on.
Nice work.
Excellent tour of the gallery, thank you!

Neat, and nice colours. Should sell well Chris in Thailand
Hi Timothy. Thanks so much for the tour. I am opening my own gallery in Birmingham, UK this year (it should have been 2020, but delayed due to Covid). This has been very insightful and I hope to visit and meet you and the team one day
Thank you for good work. Have a nice day.
This is awesome if visiting ATL do you allow people to browse the selection?
Really enjoyed the Gallery Tour. I love how you knew each artists painting throughout the rooms, that was impressive... you seem to care about each artist individually!! I love Brian's work. I hope to visit one day!
I enjoyed the video. If I ever plan a stay in Atlanta, I will try to go in for a visit.
picasso rip off
Hardly! ...... Her work has a much closer affinity to Fernand Leger. (Art criticism is not for the visually illiterate.)
@@marquamfurniture right about Leger, but just an influence in my opinion. Leger is so underrated.
@@marquamfurniture Earlier stuff was Ben Shan.
Right on the Raw Nerve!😬
Obviously!
I find Brian as the best artist in the world -- best knowledge on color. Was lucky to see a couple of his paintings in person and it was the best I have ever seen.
Very nice tour. You should check out my Silicon Universe , very unique painterly photography , macro abstracts in glass , reflections of mind.
Great work!
What a beautiful gallery and interesting work . Thanks for the tour .
you are welcome and thanks for watching
Really nice collection. Thank you. You have a really good eye.
Finally something with meaning 👍 great works with soul ❤️🔥 Congratulations love your gallery... You got a New"artist "follower on instagram🤗 👍
super.... glad to hear from you!
As an artist and former interior designer, this is a very impressive gallery. Densely packed, much more so that most museums, where there is lots of 'wasted' space. So I can clearly see how this collection is presented and organized sensitively. I live near Stanford and SF, so I see a lot of art typically, (that is the thing I miss most about the pandemic), and want to tell you that your gallery definitely holds its own. If I lived closer to Atlanta I would like to come frequently. The two things that would have improved this video is if you moved the camera more slowly and you increased the volume on the voice. But thank you very much for the fabulous visuals!!
I agree the sound needs to be improved. As to slowing down, I didn't want the video to be too long.
The Americans have NO genius in Art & Pollock Warhol Basquiat et al produced infantile rubbish. See Dolcedo Art of the Thunderbolt + The Lost Genius for the high end.
???? you can't be serious . you like cartoon art . which okay but not high art by no means .
@@holadonkey You know nothing about Art = the means by which God Almighty puts IMMORTAL ENERGIES into the earthly domain. Try Jim Overbeck Artist and-or Jim Overbeck explains his art 1,2, & 3.
@@JimOverbeckgenius your ideas are about religion are completely mad . but your collages are excellent .
@@holadonkey The Coptic Catholic Patriarch of Egypt sent a courier last year to ask for a copy of my script COGITATIO, written circa 50 yrs ago, at the 2nd of my 3 universities, shewing the relationship between the Holy Trinity & the transfinite in the foundations of mathematics. Given that I was outed as a maths super-genius age 17 by UK Mil Intel, it's more than probable you don't have the requisite intellectual equipment & spiritual experience to understand any of my writings on maths or THEOSIS. Many of my paintings are mistaken for collages + I've drawn & painted a vast number of artworks, most of which haven't been seen by anyone outside a closed circle of friends + I've written the largest illustrated book since Leonardo, consisting of 1000s of pages & still in progress on a daily basis.
@@JimOverbeckgenius well keep up your art work . it's actually very good . but i disagree with all religious politics . we are going to lose our civil liberties with that fundamentalist nonsense even though i believe in your right to express yourself .
Very Nice !
An interesting variety of work. Thank you for the tour.
Thanks for taking time to watch and reply.
Hello, I enjoy your videos on Hunt. I have several pieces available for sale.
He owns the Lakeside plantation that is a one minute’s drive from my plantation home. He’s done incredible work to it, it’s unlike anything else around. He certainly puts my home to shame :)
