RIP Andy Rourke. I mentioned his passing in the video but edited out that segment. On this episode of CD JUNKIE, I take a dive into the band's studio releases that were issued while the band was still together. They may have only released records over a four year period - 1983-87 - but they continue to be an influence on new generations of musicians.

CD JUNKIE presents THEN JERICO: Before The Future (1984-1989)
I bought the first Records album when it was released, but never even came across their other albums. The two "comeback" albums by the Searchers also had a few Birch/Wicks tunes on them as well (I did find those LPs). May have to do some searching myself for more Records albums.
Chris Gent, formerly of The Autographs was lead singer of ex Radio Stars Martin Gordons band Blue Meanies. Now Martin Gordons solo work is worthy of your attention!
We did a tour with those guys back in the early 80s. They were good. I did some writing with Hugh Gower.
I bought the first 2 LPs.
I had the single, “Starry Eyes”, but never explored the band any further. I need to address this!
I asked for something from my girlfriend on my 16th birthday, but all I got was slapped.
I always anxiously await your responses. Certainly not disappointed with this one!
❤
The Records, 20/20, Shoes . . . tears are falling for me too . . .
This is right up my alley!!! I’m getting it!!!! ❤
My goodness they have so many wonderful Christmas albums! I must explore and see what’s still available! 🎄🎅
Really pumped up for this episode! 🎼🎵🎶🍻🤠🏆
Hey Stephen, I think I foolishly sold my sealed copy of their third album. We all make mistakes... Take care...
I'm a little "obsessed" with this band to be honest, I think they wrote great tunes and lyrics and made great, uh, records. I have all three of the original vinyl LP's (the singles are a little harder to get hold of) and the On the Beach CD reissues and they are all chock full of great extras. The recent HD uploads of their Midnight Special appearance show how good they were live. Great to see you are a fan Steve!
Love this band. They need a clamshell box reissue.
Christopher Cross's debut 45 years later is still a melodic masterpiece and a darn near perfect album however my favorite is every turn of the world it has some of his best songs and surprisingly enough he's a really good guitar player to that solo on open your heart is truly moving
hi steve, this box set sounds and looks like a lot of fun with cool liner notes and photos. i remember many of these songs growing up. another cd i will have to check out, looks like a great compilation ! thanks for sharing once again, take care, your friend, rob
hi steve, i have a couple of those cd compilations from bear family, one is a summer themed one and i think i have one about automobiles. i dont have this one though as of yet, bear family always puts out quality cds with a lot of hard to find songs. thanks for sharing this, will have to check it out! take care, your friend, rob
I never knew that he had such a huge catalog. I'm ashamed to say that I never even brought his debut. Shame on me.
Great list Steve! I would add Psychedelic Furs Forever Now, The Specials More Specials, Madness Absolutely, The Cure Head on The Door, Echo and the Bunnymen Porcupine
Great collection and overview. Will definitely check out take me as I am.
Thanks for the tip on Real Gone. My mom had approximately 20 Christmas albums: Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, a country comp and the Glen Campbell (she was a big fan of his). This brings back wonderful memories. Thanks Steve!
i like christopher cross. debut is awesome . his catalouge is very good.good video stephen. mike friend from canada eh
Came for the Arthur, stayed for the rest 😁
I read that 'later' issues of Another Page features "Arthur's Theme" but I've never seen one! Maybe in Europe?
I love his first 4 albums on WB, all fantastic!! Here in Australia Christopher Cross's situation that he went through is called 'tall poppy syndrome' - reviewers and media have a lot to answer for at times, very sad.
So many artists' careers have suffered greatly because 'serious' rock critics decided that they needed to crap on someone. I'm glad that Christopher has outlasted most of those fools!
Hi I was looking for this new episode..boom ! sad news... Quincy Jones is dead....such a groundbreaking ... important musician .
Hey Stephen, I'm sorry but I missed the last third of the video. Michael McDonald's voice always puts me to sleep! 😁 Take care my friend...
Steve every Christmas 🎄 I love your enthusiasm for this stuff! My best friend turns his house into Santa's grotto and he plays the same stuff you like! I don't! Yes the tree the cards and food! But lost close family so never a celebration for me! But hey enjoy Christmas your own way! 👍
Merry Christmas Stephen! I wonder how many times I'll type that this year?
I just picked up some new ones in the latest sale. Great video!
Hello Stephen Glad to see you Hope everything's going your way my friend.
Wonderful deep dive on a sentimental fave! We do the Surf instrumental version of Linus and Lucy in The Sun Rays band (Reno NV). A crowd fave. -big wave DaddyO Dave Becker [NHA]
Where's Little Eva's Turkey Trot? Glaring omission!
This is something my Dad would have played during the Thanksgiving gathering; good memories!
I do like Autumn...interesting choices on there..have fun, Christmas is just around the corner.
Hey Stephen, I would Turkey Trot, but I don't want to hurt myself (again)...
I actually own that CD!
Wonderful artwork and graphic design on that CD! Better have some music playing when I’m having Thanksgiving dinner … unless you like the sounds of smacking lips, slurping and the occasional hacking on gristle.
hahahaha. My kinda Thanksgiving!!!
You must have YEARS of great music throughout the years, I pay attention to the new wave material
Any one of these songs would have elevated Tim Burton's POTA movie to a much higher level. But I'm sure Danny Elfman would have none of that.
really love this music… thanks
Hey Stephen, I have been going Apeshit waiting for this to come out!
When my parents bought Meet the Beatles for my birthday, Don't Bother Me was my favorite. This was the first LP I ever had, everything in the beginning was magic.
👍
Fantastic set that Now I have to go out and get...thanks as always Stephen...have a great day
You and Grant should do a bubblegum listening party. Or you could do a bubblegum edition of Ski Lodge. Or I could just get the damn cd. In any case, this was cool.
It's a fun collection, but a lot was on prior Gum collections. The real treasure trove is the online "Bubblegum MF" 42 disc series. Of course, this comes in a great package!
Can't wait to add this one to my all-too-large Cherry Red various artists clamshell boxes collection! Sounds like an especially impeccable job on the mastering here, too! Unfortunate that they didn't use the mono single mixes for a few, such as Yummy Yummy Yummy with that anemic echo-laden stereo mix, and Green Tambourine which is much punchier on the 45. And it would have been a great time to include the great new 2022 stereo of A Little Bit Me... but even so, this seems an exquisite collection and one of countless essential Grapefruit purchases! Thanks for the overview, Steve!!
I’m giving you dirty looks because you’ve been holding out on me! Good stuff; thanks for sharing!!
I know, I know, it's hard to stop as the 80s was probably the last great decade, & you haven't checked the more obscure groups like Absolute Grey.
