Thank you for your appreciation. Regarding the problem you've encountered, there are number of reasons for that. It might be due to large DEM size or improper coordinate system. Sometimes the version of HEC-HMS you are using might not support. Please ensure UTM as your reference system. Hopefully it works.

In that case, you need to use the HECGeoRAS extension in arcgis which automatically generates cross section lines. Afterwards, it has to be imported to HEC-RAS environment.

I too have faced the issue. Sometimes it appears and other time it doesn't. I suggest you to perform task through RAS mapper. All the activities of geometric window can be carried out there and won't be issue of the satellite image.

The road file you are mentioning is a shapefile. You can easily and in free of cost download the shapefile of boundaries of nations and cities from internet. Regarding the image, it is captured from the google earth application.

Do you mean all elevation values are zero? If yes, then probably you need to select the 'terrain' checkbox in google earth application.

One of the methods to get shapefile is creating one in GIS. However you can also easily download from net.

You can check out georeferencing video. It is not that difficult. I guess you mean conversion of raster into vector. In case you want to convert raster file into vector (polygon), go to ArcToolbox > Conversion Tools > From Raster and select "Raster to Polygon".

There are many free websites that provide shapefile. You can simply google search and download them. In addition to that you can fetch them from the government authority websites related to survey.

Thanks. I had encountered the same problem in my Masters thesis. First of all pick out the maximum instantaneous discharge for each year and calculate the flood frequency for the required periods. The method I adopted to develop hydrograph was using empirical formula proposed by Snyder. Using empirical formula lag time and time to peak was calculated. I assumed the time to peak is one third of whole duration of the hydrograph. Calculate the width of 50% and 75% peak discharge. The next step was dividing each return period discharge by the peak discharge of hydrograph (say you get the value X). Now multiply the 50% and 75% peak discharge by the factor X. However I've also seen many new methods using Artificial Neural Networks which seem to be more reliable.

The method I used is not reliable and is nearly out of mainstream at current times. I think the new methodology involves the machine learning approaches. I suggest you to search for research papers in google scholar and read the latest ones.
