Been waiting for this one, great review thanks. Very envious of you getting to see Kamasi live, one of the live acts I really need to see. For me Kamasi Washington is the king of jazz right now. Completely agree about the vocals with his previous work adding something but here they are a bit too too much. For me it’s his weakest album to date, but one that still makes me excited for whatever he has next.
Outstanding mate!
Nice one! Thanks for watching 🙏
This is solid
Glad you like it 🙌
Strongly endorsed. Thanks for the great content.
No worries so great to see people enjoy it! Thanks
Outstanding video
Thanks for watching 🙏
Mean Jeans are so cool man, absolutely my favorite band atm. Tight interview, Christian's such a rad dude, awesome to hear him talk for about an hour.
Such a cool band, and hearing Christian talk more about the influences somehow made everything click even more for me - ‘Blasted’ is one of my albums of the year I reckon! Cheers for watching
This was just shared on the Mark Lanegan subreddit and I wanted to stop by and say as a longtime Lanegan fan how well done it is. You’ve really put the time and effort in to bring us content that, at least as far as I can see, nobody else is doing. I learned so much that I didn’t know all wrapped up in a concise, bloat-free package, and your personal opinions were genuinely interesting to hear. Thanks for putting all this together and you’ve more than earned my sub!
Wow that is such high praise - I really appreciate that! I wanted to try and make something for the fans, I’m glad people are finding it. Thanks again for watching and for the sub!
Such a killer album. Appreciate the coverage
Nice one - cheers for watching 🤘
Very well put review! Personally while I am a bit cold on this album at the moment, I can't discount the possibility that it will grow on me, as it took some time for me to warm up to their other work. They have some songs I completely wrote off on first listen, but they came back around to be some of my favourites. I hope Like All Before You ages well like that too.
I too am definitely holding out hope, though as always I gave it a thorough 5 - 10 full listens, still, the first two certainly weren’t instant so who knows. Cheers for watching and writing 🤘
This album was my least favorite when i was exploring their discogrophy. Now that i've heard it all (minus Times New Roman), it might be my 2nd favorite behind Songs for the Deaf. In case you (anyone) didn't know (i assume you do) @29:50 That drum intro is from Black Flag - Slip It In !!
It’s definitely their weird one for sure, but I think that gives it the staying power! Hell yes that Slip it in Reference is iconic 🤘 I was first turned onto this via the band’s commentary track for the bonus material on their “Over the Years and through the Woods” DVD - you can find it on TH-cam now and it’s definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it!
Man, great video. Thanks for putting it together! So cool that you got some direct info from Catching & Johannes. Fingers crossed it leads to interviews down the line 🤞
Nice one man! Yea fingers crossed, both are super good dudes, hopefully when schedules work out! 🙌
i like it. it sounds like teenagers recorded it in their parent's basement after school over the course of a semester. it's the type of album you put on in the background during art class. people were expecting virtue part 2 and they were disappoint so it'll take some time for them to get used to the mixing and judge it on its own merit. the other problem is that fans had already heard almost half the album. if they removed prophecy or flex and released it as an ep the expectations would have been lower and it would have been received better.
This is actually a great take- hadn’t thought of it like that, certainly makes me feel a bit differently when I look at it like that. Still struggle on replays, but hopefully it will grow on me. Nice one
Good video, don’t agree with half of it, but still an interesting vid.
Haha that’s what it’s all about man! Appreciate you watching 🤘
Great review man! Really well said with fantastic points. I would give it a 7/10 on the Voidz scale (easily their worst record) but still a 9 on the grand scale of music. I am most definitely a Casablancas fanboy though, so take my review with a grain of salt. The overuse of cheap autotune and metal guitars, as well as the record's very strange lo-fi(ish) production style does much more harm than good for the tracks, but the man is such a melodic mastermind that I still can't help but listen to the songs again and again.
Thanks! Appreciate that! You’re spot on about Casablancas knack for melody- he’s one of a kind for sure - just a shame this time around he’s possibly a little too infatuated with the autotune 😂 . Cheers for watching 🤘
This album is so slept on. GEL is one of the ones.
🔥🔥🔥
Elephant overrated
I do agree with that.
Hell yeah, Crones kick ass ❤️🔥
Thanks for the shout out Grant, appreciate the honour!
CROOOOOONNNEEEES 🤘🤘🤘
Awesome list
Nice one! Thanks for watching 🤘
@@doodlereview welcome you
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 come on men wonderfull video ❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very much 🙏
I kinda liked this album the awful mixing makes it sound weirdly experimental imo
It certainly adds….something 🫣 haha but yes you can’t knock it for sounding like anyone else for sure. Cheers for watching 🤘
S - Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds, Chasing Yesterday A - As You Were B - Council Skies, Gallagher/Squire C - Who Built The Moon, Noels EPS D - Why Me, Why Not E - Come On You Know
Decent list 🤘
@@doodlereview I like all these albums except for Come On You Know. Chasing Yesterday is my personal favourite. I can see why you didn't like WBTM, I wasn't a huge fan initially, but I saw Noel live on that tour and it was great. I actually like Noels EPs a lot more than WBTM. I highly recommend his This Is The Place EP.
This is the Place definitely is the best of those 3 EP’s for sure! I agree, he’s never disappointed in a live setting, and those songs sounded better on the road
i’m weezing i need my buddy holly to help me out 👇🏼(dont have to)

TCIC are good but I prefer Sons of Kemet... have yet to check out his solo album out, hope is not to pedestrian...
Sons of Kemmet is magical! Hopefully you like this one 🙌
I'm always looking for something different to listen to, will definitely check this out. Cheers.
Nice one - hopefully you dig it 🙌
I like the album, but it's definitely my least favorite of his in since 2003
Perhaps it will grow in time?
You nailed it. Rack is better than pretty much anyone could have hoped.
Thanks! Yes this gives me faith for all of the long time reunions we’re seeing of late!
1. Magic 2. KD3 3. KD2 4. KD 5. Magic 3 6. Magic 2
Lot of love for Magic out there! I think I’d switch 1 - and 3 in your ranking, thought it was a great end to the run. Nice one for watching
Motor spirit is absolutly amazing. Favorite track from the album!
MOOOOTAR SPIIIIIIIIIIRIT - I find myself singing this in public more than I probably should
Thanks for the chat Grant!
It was my absolute pleasure sir 🫡 thanks for the music! Sounds great on vinyl too!
@@doodlereview I am shocked, but pleased, that it arrived so quickly!
Will re-up on them cause of your review
Yessss! Love to hear that 🤘🤘
I’m with you on preferring the fire and brimstone Cave to the more emotional stuff. Those two Grinderman records are an absolute blast.
Fire and brimstone the perfect way to put it, too
Thoughtful review. Your channel should have way more views, sir.
Thank you very much! I’ll get some Grinderman content up at some point. Love that project!
He was always one of my favourites, but I kind of lost interest after Push the Sky Away. I admire that he's stayed so true to himself, and he's been working through an awful lot of grief and regret in recent years, but the music hasn't done much for me. Maybe it'll come in time. Sure wish I could've seem the Bad Seeds play in the 90s though...
Yeah I feel you. I think the more somber records are perfect if it resonates with you, if you’re going through something - but outside of that, you aren’t likely to return to it. At least in my experience. I feel like I’ll be glad to have them at some point though. Man. Imagine what those earlier shows woulda been like 😯
I think a lot of Nick’s stuff requires subsequent listens before fully appreciating them because each release is so radically different. Been a fan of his since the Let Love In/Murder Ballads era and I can say working backwards on his discography and of course recent releases, my feelings on a lot of these records changed dramatically with more listens. It’s just the nature of a lot of his work because his music is so eccentric and eclectic. My initial reaction to Wild God was that it was fine, but didn’t necessarily blow me away. However, unlike the last few releases, I felt compelled to keep returning to it because a melody or lyrical moment kept popping in my head. I’ve since come come to really like this album a lot. Sonically if I had to compare it to past work it reminds me of parts of The Good Son record or some of the more cinematic sounding stuff he’s done in the past like “(I’ll Love You) Till the End of the World” or Let Love In B-Side “Cassiel’s Song” both from the early 90’s. So contrary to some of the press and early mainstream reviews, there’s a lot of familiarity on this record as a longtime fan. It’s probably become my favorite release from him since Dig Lazarus Dig!!!
That is an excellent summary! I really agree with you. It’s a slow grower, but you do find those little lines, hooks or parts stay with you and compel you to come back eventually…
Didn’t like Ghosteen at all. Only a couple of tracks worth listening to. Glad that covid derailed any touring plans for that album and we got a Cave/Ellis/Carnage heavy setlist gigs instead. Found Wild God a good return to form - reminds me of Abbatoir Blues with the backing vocals - and there’s drums… haha.
Praise be there’s actually drums!!!! 🙌 haha
Enjoyed the video, wouldn't massively disagree - would say Liam's second album is great and worth a higher place in my opinion and agree that Noel's third is my least favourite. Noel's first and fourth are masterpieces, Liam's third is a nice mix of anthems and deeper score.
Nice one! That’s a great assessment- judging by the comments here perhaps I need to give Liam’s second another shot! Cheers for watching 👌
Man, 99 is one of my favourite songs of the year.
A pounding banger of a tune!!
Great interview. Always wanted to know more about Gene. Also, I really like hearing about his other job as set decorator on films. Apparently Lanegan did the same around the time he was recording bubblegum. Would love to see an interview series with musicians about second jobs they do.
Thanks man! Yeah me too, it was totally by chance I saw his name in the credits of Catch Me If You Can, kind of prompted me to reach out after a long time procrastinating! Agreed - You could probably do a great series on the past lives of Hollywood Grips, Gaffers, Porters and Set Dressers…
My way: Innerspeaker: b Lonerism: A Currents: S The slow rush: A
A damn fine list 🫡 I can live with that
Thanks for making, and linking, bands mentioned in this video to your Spotify playlist!
No problem! Hope you found some new tunes!
nickleback? not a chance. this voice is one of a kind… loved your review!
Nice one … stay tuned for more Lanegan content soon
pinkerton isnme
Pinkerton supremacy? 🤔
lovely video! new moon is actually my personal fav the more striped down production fits him so well
Nice one! There are some fantastic songs on that one for sure
Nice! New Mean Jeans might be my most listened to new record of the year so far
It’s gonna be up there on my end of year list for sure !
I also love all the 13/4 time signatures!!!!!
The band always coming through with some crazy technical moves - it’s nuts
@@doodlereview but how do they make it seem so effortless?!? Starting to wonder if they have the 'pick of destiny' and/or the 'bong of destiny' lol. Either way I'm here for it and love your review!!
@@Margoth195oh it ain't effortless. They work hard af, it's amazing to see all the work musicians put in behind the scenes
Thanks @Margoth195 😁

Weezer'd 😱

I love this album and band. It’s funny because Face Value was one of my favorite songs. I also can’t wait to hear what they put out next. If you like these guys and haven’t listen to it yet (I just started sub to your page) check out The Chisel and High Vis
Agree! Their next album will be one of my most anticipated! I've done a full review on The Chisel (you might have seen by now), and there'll definitely be a High Vis review when their next one arrives later this year. Cheers for the sub - way more content to come
C+
seems low, but I respect it - how you figure?
Blue banisters is my favourite Lana Album. All time masterpiece. My comfort album and it's easily a 10/10 for me. PERFECT! No skips
love that! it's still one I go back to the least, but maybe I'll need to put more time into it
@@doodlereview I remember blue banisters was my least favourite Lana album on my initial listen. But it grew on me slowly and I eventually realised the beauty it holds. A lyrical and melodic masterpiece! You should surely put more time into it and I bet you'll fall in love.
Okay you’ve sold me!! Will do
