Beyond the Basics: Critical Blood Shortages
So many people don't realize how importantes blood donation is to save lives
Ive been donating for years (apheresis). I donated today and broke out in hives 12 hours later. Im worried that I can be disqualified from donating as I am O negative
is this meant to be a blood donation ad
They probably should have added the info that anyone who donates between now and September 4 gets a free t-shirt (like the one in the video).
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I love corny jokes. Good one! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 it actually got me 😂😂😂😂
What a good person ❤❤
India available your service
I’m doing it tomorrow
Being B- has gotten me stalked for donations. I used to donate blood all the time
I’m O-
Me 2. I can recycle my blood.
Sorry I can’t get over the fact that you look like you just got drained
Well, close but there is a whole other blood type system that is also used called Lutheran Blood Types. So while O- can donate to just about everyone, it is possible for someone with O- to be incompatible with someone using Lutheran.
I went in to donate before unfortunately i got told that because of the musculature of my arms they weren't willing to try as they'd only have one chance to get the needles in.
where the other 50% go
Great question! While platelets are most often used to help cancer patients, they also help patients with blood disorders or those undergoing open-heart surgery and organ transplant. You can visit vitalant.org/platelets to learn more about their impact! -Shane
I promise i bleed more in the summer 😂
Well explained and easy to understand!
Cholesterol? How? As my experience, only blood pressure and hemoglobin 👌
Hello! After your donation, we perform tests in our laboratory and then share your blood type, total cholesterol results and your vitals with you in your confidential donor account. Learn more: vitalant.org/wellness Thank you! - Tesia
I want to donate but I also want to make sure it safe because I have auto immune disease call pernicious anaemia
I’m to scared to sorry 😭
I'm not allowed to donate cause of my health issues
Donating blood is seriously not that bad…there’s a little pinch feeling when they put the needle and it’s over before you know it! Definitely eat those snacks though, even if you’re not hungry.
Doesn’t go far enough?! Just how far do you want this policy to allow?
Are you still looking for employees?
Yes! Head to vitalant.org/careers to find opportunities near you. Thank you!
You want a Pepsi? Sorry, I only have hep-C!!!
I told the phlebotomist at the hospital that if she didn't dress as a vampire for Halloween I question all of her life choices.
When I donated blood in high school they sent a thank you note in the mail.. it had a your blood type stamped in big bold font.. my mom looked at me and with a straight face said ‘it’s the only A+ you’ll ever get’ then proceeded to burst out laughing saying someth about the look on my face😱😒…NOW it cracks me up every time I remember 😂
ghoulishly change the phrasing and its just dad making blood jokes
Yes. I maxed out last year. I plan on resuming in August. Double donations baby.
I used to donate regularly, until I discovered that the LARGE majority of the blood donated gets SOLD to pharmaceutical companies for the production of medicines. Mostly antidepressants, of which are severely damaging to society.
Hello! Thanks for your comment. It's important to understand the differences between blood collected for lifesaving transfusions by nonprofit blood centers and plasma collected expressly for processing into other plasma-derived components. As a nonprofit, Vitalant collects and distributes blood donations for lifesaving patient transfusions at about 900 U.S. hospitals. Community volunteers who donate blood with Vitalant make sure local hospitals have blood on their shelves when it is needed for cancer patients, people recovering from trauma or accidents, newborn babies born with complications, surgical patients, and many others who receive blood transfusions. Others might choose to receive payment at an independent paid plasma center where the plasma collected is used to manufacture pharmaceutical products for specialized patient needs. While these products are important, they are not the same as blood transfusions. Thank you! - Tesia
@@Vitalant The Red Cross is the most culpable entity in this. There are ways to donate directly, the RC is not one of them. I literally know a man who has made billions off of selling supplies to the RC and he has told me some very disturbing details about them. I feel shameful knowing someone who has profited off of them. Blood money, literally.
but those company literally takes the blood and sell it to the hospital... and then the hospital charges people bank breaking price and make money of it.
Hello! Thank you for your comment. Vitalant is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that relies on volunteer blood donors to ensure a safe and ample blood supply for the patients we serve. While Vitalant doesn't charge for the blood itself so generously given by volunteer donors, we are reimbursed by our partner hospitals for the cost to recruit and screen donors, and to safely collect, process, test and ship the donated blood products. Hospitals may have their own additional charges related to their processes and costs may be passed on to their patients. These fees are covered by most health insurance programs, including Medicare. Thank you! - Tesia
Why is it that certain people who give blood only get gift certificates after giving blood
Been lagging it but I'll sign up once i get myself sorted out
no way this guy has blood left
I can’t because there are drugs in my blood
In my country you can donate blood from age 17 with your parents approval, in 3 months intervals. A friend of mine decided to organize donations in school every 3 months so everybody who is old enough (mostly 12 graders and teachers) can donate. We're about to finish school after saving dozens of lives. Starting our adult lives after this is crazy!
I’ve been a registered blood donor for 5 years but I’ve never donated. Before you can in my country they do some tests to see if your blood is safe / safe for you to give blood, but I’ve never been cleared to be allowed to donate due to a chronic illness. Hopefully one day I’ll be allowed to & I hope more people that are able to will start!
I wish i could donate blood, but im anemic and have cardiovascular issues, is there anything else i could donate besides my organs after i bite the dust?
Bone marrow would be a thing, but depends greatly on how stable your circulation is and if undergoing general anaesthesia is possible for you. And something that sounds weird, is stool. Some people need transplants from others after they destroyed their digestive biom. For bone marrow you get registered in a database and get a letter when your DNA fits to someone in need. (At which point you can still decide against it) And for the stool thing I don't know much about the process, probably also a database, but I could be wrong
There are probably more things, but those are the ones that popped up in my head
@@harukastorm4 thank you so much!! I never even thought about donating bone marrow!! I'll definitely have to look into that! And for the stool I also have pretty severe digestive issues so idk how viable it would be for me.
Time
Thanks so much for your willingness to save lives! For those who might not be eligible to donate, there are still many ways you can get involved to support patients relying on transfusion! Visit vitalant.org/support-us to learn more about how you can host a blood drive, volunteer or spread the news and encourage others to give! - Tesia
I donate every 4 months, that's the rule for women in my country. Men can donate every 3 months. It's a good thing to do. I save a life and get a paid day off work. Win - win situation 😊
Same. You meet great people, get a snack, take the fear out of needles and save a life. 👍
Same girl ❤
I aimed for 3 months span, but one time I had a cold, and they started to call me as if I owed them money. It discouraged me to donate, don't want to be harassed again
yeah and get asked if I'm still straight every 8 weeks
Hello! Vitalant welcomes all who are willing to roll up a sleeve and save lives under the Food and Drug Administration's final guidance which now evaluates blood donor eligibility independent of gender or sexual orientation while maintaining the safety of the blood supply. This new policy is a major step forward in the ongoing work of bringing equality and fairness to U.S. blood donation policies while maintaining the safety of the blood supply. The updated questionnaire was implemented August 21, 2023 and now impartially evaluates individual HIV risk. Learn more: vitalant.org/EligibilityUpdate

@@Vitalant I used to live in a fairly small town in Canada, I used to donate blood a lot, in fact, I held the record for being the youngest donor as I donated just a few days after my 17th birthday. I was on a list and got called into the hospital a number of times to donate blood when there was an urgent need. Now I live in Tokyo Japan, they will not take my blood as I'm not Japanese, true story.
O- im better than all lf you
