Was stationed at Rivers with the 6/9, from December 1966 to July 1969. Left after achieving precision firing with the C btry, got transferred to Hdq. FDC as an instructor. Have been back and visited an old friend whom I connected with via Facebook. Went back in 2015 with my wife and spent a week and a half driving around. Hard to remember much as much has changed. A lot of refugees wondering around and living in the old army apts. near the PX area, Pendleton I think.

Hello Giessen! Oh how we miss you! Watching this I realized that I don't see many bicycles!
Thanks for the tour. I was stationed here 03.71 to 10/73 Co B 709th MP Bn and 61st MP Det. 8:59 my barracks on right , 9:27 our ammo bunker on left and the motor pool was straight ahead behind the fence. Seems so much bigger compared to then.

I was stationed there 1983-1985. 588 Maintenance as well. Had a lot of good times there.
I visited my son there in 1991. I was Stationed close to Gießen in 1956-57 In Kirsh-Geons and would ride the bus To Geißen which was free. If you rode the bus no pass check. I went in to Giessen with no pass once and of course my sergeant was on the bus sitting across the isle from me coming back and totally ignored me and never said a thing the next day. I thought oh shit i will catch it in the morning but he never mentioned it.
Haha hab mein Haus gesehen❤❤❤👍

DaMayorOfNewYork I was stationed in your same unit back in 79-82. It was HHB 42nd FA Gp then it was changed to Bde. My husband was stationed at Rivers Barracks, 6/9th FA Bn. The housing area is Marshall. It was located up the street from depot across the street from the movie theater. Before you got to the PX and Pendleton Barracks. I lived on the economy in Langoens.
I was stationed in Giessen from 79-82 as well at the 532nd Signal Battalion. Who knows, maybe we passed each other a few times, lol.
My old barracks is at 7:57 the 588th Maint CO, 19th Maint BN. Its the building on the right. The one to the left is the old dispensary. The chow hall is after this shot, driving down the ally to the other turn. To the right was motor pool, and shops. Thanks for the memories.
When were you there, Don?
1985-1988
Okay. My first tour in Germany I was first assigned to HHC V Coscom in Frankfurt. I was there for approx. a week, or so, before receiving orders to Pendleton Barracks, 24th S&S Co., 19th Maint. BN. I arrived there in early 1974 and stayed there before receiving orders in Oct. '74 for our detachment to move down to the Depot and be assigned to the U.S. Military Community Activity, Giessen, working at the old Ration Breakdown Point. I stayed there until Nov. '76 then rotated back to the states. If you were in the 588th, then you were directly across (east of us) the little street from me. The dispensary and the mess hall were behind our barracks. Your barracks were closest to the old main PX and the old Commissary. The old main gate and guard shack was between us just south of both our barracks. You ever pull guard duty there? Well, those are just some of my memories of Pendleton Barracks. It was interesting and rewarding duty there. I'll always love Giessen........and Germany. Take care, Don. John
Yes, pulled guard. And I agree, best place I was ever stationed. Thanks for the reply. Love the video, it brings back a lot of memories. Take care yourself. Don
All I seen was stairwell housing...how many millions were wasted on that place and places like ti, in Germany...?
Anyone know an Andrew Chewicz stationed there in '87-'89? He fathered a child who is eager to meet him.
