Ep. 15 The Immaculate Conception
Today we discuss some of the basic ideas around the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. Mainly, is it reasonable to believe that Mary was immaculate, that is conceived without sin? Before my conversion, this was a problematic belief for me. Still, by God’s grace, this doctrine is clear and beautiful in how it completes our understanding of the Biblical Narrative.

    2 Cor 1:8-9 - - 8 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. 9 Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. Jesus was left without any human, earthly support or help. At his arrest all of his people deserted him. We have the opportunity to be stripped of all human, earthly support and walk that same journey as Jesus. Being in the dark without hope is just the start of learning that Jesus will see us through and he will work his purposes in our total despair. Our scream of desperation receives no answer and we begin to understand just a bit of how Jesus went before us. Being without hope of anything of this earth is just another excellent opportunity for us to learn to trust the King of Glory regardless of our perception or understanding of our lives.

    If I heard correctly, the statement was that the proper understanding of and practice of the Eucharist would bring one the closest to God and wouldn’t a person want to be as close to God as they can be. Well, I’ve heard these same arguments from Pentecostals, Muslims, Word of Faith and read the same arguments from Buddhist. So, why not take one of those pathways to closeness to God? After all, the promises are the same. The journey continues.

      That is not the argument . The argument is that scripture clearly teaches that Christ is truly present. If one rejects this teaching for any reasons that are related to “It’s a hard teaching to accept.” They risk their own salvation in doing so. You are focusing on the conclusion of the argument, rather than the premises that led to it.

    William thanks for your question about going hungry in the desert: Excellent point! Thank you for engaging. We addressed that earlier in show. We could say the same about John 3:16. Those who believe will not perish, but have eternal life. But we don't think that Jesus is speaking metaphorically there. We understand that the resurrection is part of salvation. Similarly, while the body will not necessarily be filled and not hunger, we know that bodily hunger is not an indication of salvation, but rather faith in the teachings of Jesus.

    The Romans tried to incentives more birth and it didn't work. interesting

  • @RandyLeQuieu
    @RandyLeQuieu 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Probably 20 or 25 years ago population people were telling how the birth rate in Europe was lower than required to maintain the culture. And, of course, the Muslim clerics were saying that they were going to take over Europe simple with the birth rate because their families had 6 or 8 kids. The American birth rate was low and almost too low to continue the culture. American birth rate has continued to decline, according to the latest information, so our culture is in serious trouble. Others have talked about how birth control is very new and we still don't know the full impact of couples putting off children or not having any children. This is in interesting time to be alive. Interesting that the Roman nobility had a low birth rate and people not born of noble blood were able to move into leadership. Interesting. I wonder what we could learn from past civilization concerning birth rate and the survival of the culture.

    • @piousreflections
      @piousreflections 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What is shocking is how much Protestantism was the impetus for the low birthrate. Through protestantism came the global and cultural acceptance of contraception. Trent Horn did an excellent job covering this. Many respectable Protestants were arguing for abortion as morally permissible and unpublished books once the science became undeniable. If protestants hadn't caved on abortion, America would be a very different place. But they were so anti-Catholic that they ultimately sided with the liberal progressives in order to not appear too popish. th-cam.com/video/EkbOEnDFKdc/w-d-xo.html

    pls tell the difference between expository sermon and exegetical sermon

    • @piousreflections
      @piousreflections 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s been a while since I recorded this episode. But expository preaching typically topical, and exegetical is more along the lines verse by verse that emphasizes the grammar historical context. So technically speaking, they have a lot of overlap as exegetical preaching will lead to “topics” but expository preaching will most likely involve the preacher still leveraging grammar and historical context. However, culturally speaking, they lead to largely different Christian cultures within the organization of teaching material in the local church. Churches that do exegetical preaching will often talk about how they will be “in Romans for the next 2 years or however long it takes us to get through it, line by line and verse by verse.” Expository/topical preaching, tends to have specific readings for that Sunday that have been set by the Church/Denomination they are a part of so they lend themselves to more “bite size” sermons. Having attended churches that do both for long periods of time, I think exegetical preaching should be relegated to Bible studies and expository preaching should be for the ambo/pulpit.

    Elon Musk is a #hypocrte with empty words. Musk's lust and selfishness are the reasons why couples are having fewer children. Husbands are never taught they are biblically obligated to *sacrifice,* every day, for their wives, as Christ sacrificed for his church every day. (Ephesians 5:25). The Catholic clergy blame women, for marriage problems, while *they wink and nod at the popular male vices that wreck marriages and lower birth rates:* drunkenness, drug abuse, domestic abuse - physical or verbal, gambling, greed, egotism, alienation, pornography, adultery, and criminality. The high divorce rates precipitate fornication. And fornication causes 87% of abortions. So to end abortion, we need to drastically reduce divorce and thereby drastically reduce fornication. Just telling people to have more children is worthless. *Fix the character defects first!* Then, couples will have more children.

    Miracles do clear up doctrine, but there are some doctrines that just require faith. No one has seen God, but miracles testify to his existence. Therefor the first line of the creed is false if miracles don’t happen. If a miracle happens, then materialism is false and the existence of God is validated. But not all miracles affirm specific doctrines. Sometimes Jesus used miracles to prove he had the power to forgive sins and that he was the Son of God. So miracles are part of confirming a doctrine. If Mary does in fact appear as Catholics claim she did in Fatima, then if the event actually happened it would be evidence that Protestantism needs to incorporate Marian dogmas into their doctrine. Similarly, if someone really does get healed at a revival then that would mean that a cessationist would have to change their view on miracles generally, but they would not necessarily be obligated to join the charismatic movement.

  • @RandyLeQuieu
    @RandyLeQuieu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Those who have gone on before most certainly speak volumes of how individuals carried out walking with Jesus in their work and world. Those stories are great reminders of our Lord’s love and they are great encouragers in our daily lives. Thanks for clearing up your thots on miracles and doctrine. Yes indeed, the King of Glory does heal and he doesn’t heal to support our doctrine but he does act because of who he is and how miracles point to Jesus and true truth. Lately I’ve been thinking about the missionaries who brought the gospel of Jesus to the Pacific Islanders who were mostly cannibals. These folks most certainly experienced miracles that were a witness to the locals of the power and superiority of Jesus. Stories of miracles don’t support what I believe but they do speak to Jesus’ authority and action in daily life. By the way - did you ever watch the movie “Purgatory?” It is an excellent telling of how Purgatory could happen. Have you seen the “Cabrini” story? I am amazed that the movie did not delve into her prayer and devotion life but they would have lost audience, of course, but I would have enjoyed a bit of her relationship with Jesus. Anyhow - pressing on into Jesus. Randy

    American Christians don't worship Jesus, they worship Comfort. The belief that you can live in this world without fighting, killing and dying for your cause is a pretty deadly sin. I mean of course the Christians are losing, what do you expect from a group that refuses to do every single thing that is required for victory and pretend to have the moral high ground for their refusal to take responsibility.

      I do not write a response to you, as you will refuse to see clearly. To use St Paul's Epistle to the Galatians, specifically 3:28 as a proof text for the heresy of ordaining women, does not negate the other texts or verses in Scripture that St Paul wrote. In his Epistles to Timothy, Titus, Corinth, to name a few, St Paul gives very clear teachings on who can and can not be ordained. No where in scripture from the first verse in Genesis to the last verse in Revelation does God call or allow a woman to serve Him at the altar. Christ appointed no woman, and he had many Holy women around him, to serve Him in a leader of worship role. The passage this person is using is not related to ordination. It is related to salvation. Paul was correcting false teachings about "levels" of salvation. The church was treating people differently due to subjective attributes and their sex. Paul taught we are all condemned under the law, none more than others. God sees us all as equal in need of salvation. If you read Chapters 3 and 4, you will plainly see St Paul is not talking about ordination. He is talking about salvation. The Church has never ordained a woman to Holy Orders. References to a deaconess in Acts of the Apostles is the forerunner of Nuns and Sisters. In the Anglican Church there are Religious and the order of deaconess. A lay order for women to pursue service to Christ. Whenever the Church was confronted by heretics pushing women's ordination, the church rejected them. In the Council of Nicaea, women who thought they were ordained and coming from heretical sects were received with compassion after they had repented. They were to be counted as among the laity. Pope St John Paul II, in Ordinatio Sacerdotalis, taught that the Church can not ordain women as Christ has not given the Church the authority to do so and therefore can not ordain women. Only those who think they know better than God, Christ and Church will even entertain the idea to go against the written word of God and the Church of Christ and ordain that which God has not allowed.

    Feminism describes an idea that women as a group have some common political interest. In society this is not unusual. Farmers have an interest in certain policies, small business people, workers all engage with the political system. It is how society works. Feminism has historically worked to give women the vote. To allow them to own property once they have been married. To have access to education. To have access to employment. Are you saying that you do not support women having access to education, participation in the political system the ability to have careers or to be involved in political debate?

    Interesting podcast! I like some of your points. Just a friendly correction for you regarding Eric Liddell's denomination. He was not a Presbyterian. He was a devout Congregationalist (you may find the history of British Congregationalism interesting in terms of their resistance to government authority). Also, in addition to being a strict Sabbatarian, Eric was a teetotaler (who abstained from alcohol his entire life), and was anti-smoking, anti-drug, and anti-gambling. He had very strong convictions and lived a fairly ascetic lifestyle, but he did not push his beliefs on others. He was not judgmental. He was able to stand by his convictions while spending much of his time in worldly settings amongst people with differing beliefs. He approached those with differing beliefs in a gentle and compassionate way. Eric first began evangelizing about a year and a half before the Olympics. Public speaking was not his strong suit, but again, he trusted God to provide the necessary power. Although he was shy and terrified of speaking to crowds, Eric was once again obedient to what he believed God was calling him to do. As you know, Eric was also a Pure Science student at the University of Edinburgh, and excelled in chemistry and mathematics. Therefore, Eric understood science and found it compatible with his beliefs. He was not a Christian with blind faith. His faith was reasoned and rational. As an aside, a fact you may find interesting about Harold Abrahams is that Harold spoke to fellow Jewish young people, telling them that they should play sports on the Sabbath because proving themselves athletically was more important. In that way, Harold took a stand completely opposite to that of Eric Liddell's. I think the most important thing people can take away from Eric Liddell's life is his consistent obedience and submission to the will of God, and his compassionate and loving service to others. He is one of the most selfless and saintlike modern Christians. He truly lived by The Sermon on the Mount. Some who knew him even called him "Jesus in Running Shoes." I recommend the books, "For the Glory" by Duncan Hamilton and "Pure Gold" by David McCasland. Eric Liddell repeatedly chose to honor God, even when it cost him everything from a material standpoint. As you know, after the Olympics, he gave up fame and opportunities for fortune to become a missionary educator in Tianjin. He later gave up comfort with his family in Tianjin to be an itinerant evangelist in a war zone in the remote village of Siaochang. He risked his life countless times to rescue the wounded, tend to the sick, and made dangerous journeys to smuggle medical supplies, Chinese contraband money, coal, and food to help the people of Siaochang and the missionaries at the hospital. He did not discriminate and even helped wounded Japanese soldiers, bandits, and Chinese communist soldiers. In fact, he worked together with the communist soldiers for the common good of the people (he spoke of this in an interview from 1940). When the British government ordered its nationals to leave, Eric once again followed his convictions and stayed in China while his beloved wife and daughters left to safety in Canada. This sacrifice was probably his biggest. He believed God was calling him to stay and continue helping the Chinese with whom he felt a profound connection. Then, when he became a prisoner in the Weihsien Internment Camp, Eric was a beacon of light to other prisoners with his selfless service. He judged no one. He showed loving kindness through his actions to everyone: from scorned prostitutes and drug addicts to wealthy business men with bad reputations. Eric even persuaded greedy and wealthy people in the camp to share food they purchased from the black market with everyone. He became "Uncle Eric" to hundreds of children separated from their parents -- even amending his Sabbatarian rule and refereeing games on Sundays when he realized it was in the best spiritual interest of the children. He taught chemistry, physics, and mathematics to the children of the camp; and organized sport. He carried coal and pumped water for the sick, elderly, and disabled. He tended to typhoid fever victims. He helped clean the filthy latrines. He mended broken hockey sticks for the kids with stinking glue from horses hooves. He shared what little he had with everyone. When the teenagers were having sex parties, Eric started an evening program of wholesome activities to refocus their energy on positive things. He maintained his strong Christian character until the end despite suffering from a terminal illness in a prison camp. He was an inspiration to us all.

    The “terms bit” was hilarious and the AI Chat was insightful as always

    Jeremy wasn't actually friends with crowder he was being fake friendly in order to get crowder so he could make money off of him just like they did with Candice and JP

  • @MCTACKETT
    @MCTACKETT ปีที่แล้ว

    If your take away from that terms offer is that the DW is the best conservative group then you obviously didn't understand how bad of a friend the DW was being to crowder when they only offered him 25% of the minimum 200 million they would make in subscriptions alone. They intentionally say that 50 million is a lot but when you factor in the $ that would be made it isn't. Plus he had to pay for production and is already demonitized on TH-cam..just the ad reads alone and being on DW and Rumble would produce 250k per episode on the conservative side. Then factor in that Dailywire would run and receive all profits from his merch shop and that's all anyone should need to hear to know that isn't a friendly offer and it's extremely misleading on DW part to play games with words in order to make them look good and say "it's just business" but how could a friend do this right after so screw DW and anyone who thinks crowder is in the wrong

      @@piousreflections glad to be here. Can you or are you doing any videos on the whole of the conservative movements infighting? From politics and Presidential campaigns as well as youtube Dailywire blaze host and also follow up on the crowder/Dw that brought me to your channel in the first place? I see a lot of benefit from your position and I really try to test my positions against people I don't 100% agree but that I respect and know are dealing in truth and reality but just see things differently than I do. Institutional intellectualism concerning the gospel, doesn't necessarily bring deeper insight to the nature of the Devine. In fact it often creates further branches of fallible theory to ponder. Creating a seminary that ends up fostering doubt about the word of God to the impressionable.
