So this works because roundwound strings have grooves in them. The grooves slowly collect dirt and oil and dead skin from your fingers. This fills the grooves in so they predictably start to sound more like flatwound strings, but with less even crispness. Boiling them will break down a lot of the dirt and particles. I think it's even more effective if you put dish soap in, because skin oils aren't water soluble and those will probably still keep building up even if you remove some of the other particles.

I could tell which was which immediately when the basses are soloed. A P-bass pickup has different volume levels from the low to high strings. T-40 volume is consistent across all strings because the pickup is straight/perpendicular. But I am really surprised how close it is. When you're just enjoying the music and not necessarily focused on individual instruments, they're basically the same.

Hey Andre, how do you learn your songs, I’m completely self taught and all I’ve ever done is watch TH-cam and look how people play it. And almost always at my church I have to play songs in a different key than the original.so it makes learning the bass parts really hard for me. Any help or tips would be amazing 🙏🏽

I’ve boiled my strings about 4 times if not 5. There is always a noticeable difference. Almost like new. But the more you do it the less it works and the new sound doesn’t last long.
