Not an Opera guy but I do respect what it takes to put on a production.

If I’m painting in the studio, I generally use my photo editing programs to change colors around and move things here and there. I’m not very good at it. I wish I was better. I don’t really understand how to do the layering. But the point is, it’s very quick and easy and you don’t have to sit there for half an hour 45 minutes doing different value, studies and different renderings. You can set your whole scene in just a couple of minutes and decide which color looks best. Adjust your hue this way or that. Physically you can only do so many value studies but you can do many editing within a few minutes. I don’t know if you think that is not the same thing as physically painting it with your own hands. Do you feel like you get something more out of it when you literally lay the paint down on the paper or do you think you would benefit from digitally doing your value studies?
