flowering almond early season pollinator habitat
Flowering almond (Prunus glandulosa -dwarf, P trilobata) is a deciduous shrub native to China providing early season nector for pollinating insects. The rounded growth form reaches a height and spread of 12 to 15 feet (4 to 6 feet for the P. glandulosa). It growes best in full sun to filtered light in well drained loamy soil in hardiness zones 3 to 6. It is tolerant of wind but not wet soil or standing water. The one-seeded fruit attracts birds.

Leveling for flood irrigation
มุมมอง 3.8K12 ปีที่แล้ว
This piece of equipment is a leveler. It has a blade in front to cut high spots and a bar in the back to smooth. It is used to prepare the seedbed for flood irrigation. It takes the humps and other un-eveness out of the field so after furrows are made, the irrigation water, in this case delivered by gatted pipe, will flow by gravity evenly down the furrows and across the field.
culti-packer or roller harrow firms the seedbed after plowing
มุมมอง 12K12 ปีที่แล้ว
This culti-packer, also called a roller harrow, has two sets of rollers with spring tooth harrows in between. It is used to break-up soil clods and pack the soil to leave a smooth, firm seedbed. The depth of the harrows can be adjusted to bring moist soil to the surface and the packers firm the soil and allows the moisture to stay near the surface where it is available for seed germination. Two...
Offset disc seedbed preparation
มุมมอง 90812 ปีที่แล้ว
This offset disc is preparing a seedbed in crested wheatgrass. It has two gangs of discs set at opposing angles to allow mixing of soil and residue. One set of discs throws the soil outward and the other throws the soil inward. It is tilling the soil to a depth of four to six inches.
Offset disc plowing for seedbed preparation
มุมมอง 9K12 ปีที่แล้ว
This heavy offset disc plow is breaking up crested wheatgrass prior to seeding, plowing to a depth of about six inches. It has two disc gangs set at opposing angles to cut and mix the soil and residue. One set of discs cuts and throws the soil outward followed by the second disc gang that cuts and throws the soil inward. It does not plow as deeply as a moldboard plow.
seed bed preparation - plowing
มุมมอง 1.6K12 ปีที่แล้ว
A moldboard plow is used for deep tilling and turning the soil in the first operation of conventional or clean tillage seedbed preparation. This type of tillage kills weeds, burries weed seed, and breaks up the soil for a smooth firm seedbed. It is an esential step where flood irrigationis used. However, it destroys soil structure affecting soil microbes and reducing organic matter and general ...

Nola Bohl The seeds have a really low viability rate. The best way to propagate is through plugs like they sell through the California Seed Company. You asked this several months ago, so maybe you already found live plant. Maybe not but perhaps this will help others that wish to grow it. It likes lots of water but doesn't like "wet feet", and fertilized with blood meal and bone meal. Good luck

separating two crop seeds from one weed see? im confused this seems like overkill. I mean it might have use in polyculture but thats usually harvested by hand which would negate two crop seeds being together. I assumed seed cleaners were to separate light weed and unfilled crop seed from crop seed, if you get a chance explain when two crop seeds would be applicable?

    • @farmerboybill
      @farmerboybill 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Your post is five years old, so I guess you won't see my response. I plant winter rye in the fall, then plant peas into the same field in the spring. In the summer, I harvest both crops at the same time and use a much larger Clipper to separate the seeds. It takes multiple passes through the machine. First pass is to clean the rye. The peas go over the top screen and are gathered. Weed seeds and undesirable material are cleaned out and the rye is stored. Second pass to clean the peas. The splits and unthreshed heads are cleaned out. I plan on adding vetch to this mix next year. There are times when I think I could also harvest the cover crop I plant after rye, which includes oats, buckwheat, tillage radish, vetch, peas, etc but I've not had a chance to try it out.
