Can it be used as a lifeline?

I realize this is a long shot of a question. I was just about to fuse my pouch to the body and realized I couldn’t. How does one get the working yarn on to the left needle? Left needle being the one that comes around and picks off the stitches from the pouch and body needles.

I'm so glad I bought mine at Yarn Folk when I stopped in! I let many know about the helpful tool, Including a LYS in Seattle. A word of advice: try a short segment of your yarn to see how it slides onto the string. I used Dapple by Brooklyn Tweed. Tried transfer of stitches from a smaller solid cable to a larger interchangeable cable and needle. I was also on a size 3 needle. I think the cotton blend was too " grabby" and the needle too small. Thanks Ann for having the best notions for knitters.
