Short & Sweet Big Twist Comfy Yarn Review - Currently On Clearance 5/22!
Sorry for the short and sweet review, but since this yarn is on clearance, return on my time investment is very much in the negative.
I know I said don't buy Big Twist Comfy..... but if you decide to anyway, use this link below to help support my channel!
bit.ly/3wHGXBn
Availability: At Joann stores only.
Affordability: Pretty reasonably priced, particularly at the clearance price.
Durability: Failed my durability test with only 5 washes. I cannot recommend this yarn.
Workability: Even with the looser ply, I didn't find this yarn to be terribly splitty.
Softness: Very soft and comfy! This yarn is aptly named.

UPDATES! Acrylic Yarn Comparison Fast Follows, Cotton Comparison and General Plans for the Future
มุมมอง 6533 ปีที่แล้ว
At the beginning of this video I cover the fast follows from the Ultimate Acrylic Yarn Comparison! After that, I touch on the status of the Ultimate Cotton Yarn Comparison and finish with a general blog update. I tried to compartmentalize the discussions as much as possible so you don't need to listen to more of my rambling than you need to. ;)
ABSORBENCY TEST #2! The Ultimate Cotton Crafting Yarn Comparison
มุมมอง 4863 ปีที่แล้ว
This video covers the second of two absorbency tests done to compare cotton crafting yarns for dish cloth use. This measures the total maximum absorbency that a yarn has, which has some interesting contrasts to the previous absorbency test! As always, here are links to the yarns in this test. The links may or may not be affiliate links, giving me a small commission on any yarn purchases you may...
ABSORBENCY TEST #1! The Ultimate Cotton Crafting Yarn Comparison
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I perform the first of what ends up being TWO absorbency tests. I originally intended to only do the test you see in this video, but after doing so I decided a second was warranted. This first absorbency test primarily determines speed of absorbency, which I consider to be VERY important for wiping up spills. As always, here are links to the yarns in this test. The links may or ma...
PART TWO! Of The Ultimate Cotton Yarn Comparison (for Dishcloths)
มุมมอง 1.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I ramble about LOTS of things I'm noticing this far in the Ultimate Cotton Crafting Yarn Comparison. I briefly touch on softness and workability before heading down the rabbit hole of size variations before and after washing! Correction: I did not notice this when I filmed the video, but Premier Yarns Just Cotton is also a cotton/poly blend like Premier Home Cotton. I don't know h...
Introducing the Ultimate COTTON Crafting Yarn Comparison (for Dishcloths)
มุมมอง 2.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This video introduces my new yarn comparison, the Ultimate Cotton Crafting Yarn Comparison (for Dishcloths)! There are blog posts on the internet claiming that all cotton yarns for dishcloths are *mostly* the same. Sure, they are typically all rough, 4-ply worsted weight yarns. But I would like to propose the hypothesis that they are not all the same, for the simple reason that the cotton from ...
Goodwill Yarn JACKPOT! Doing the Burn Test on Unlabeled Yarns
มุมมอง 2253 ปีที่แล้ว
I get a huge kick out of buying mystery yarns from thrift stores.... especially when they look like expensive natural fiber yarns that I am getting for only a few dollars. Watch me do the burn test on my latest Goodwill yarn haul and see what treasures I found. This document is my reference for what to look for when burning yarn: media.rainpos.com/5968/burn_test_to_identify_textile_fibers.pdf P...

How did they hold up over time?
Thank you! Love the chart!!
Thank you
Thank you very much for doing this. I've been using Lily and thinking about trying Premier Home Cotton. You just saved me some money. I wasn't interested in the shrinkage. I think that's just part of the package with cotton. But I am very interested in the absorbency. So, thanks again and I'm moving on to Part two.
❤❤❤I love this yarn brand from Hobby Lobby is the softest acrylic I've ever worked with. It is only $3.49 every other week on their 30% off yarn sales❤❤❤
I was excited to hear about the KC in this video. Any word on the durability of that brand?
Hi there! Not sure if you are still doing them, but I love your reviews. They are so helpful, and I especially like how you do the wash test. This is so important if you like to gift your items. Also, I couldn't agree more with you about Premier yarns. They pretty much nail it.
This is great! Thank you.
Thank you for pattern
Thank you for this comprehensive work you completed. I am so pleased that I found your channel. I am subscribing.
Thank you! I’m making my first gifted blanket and needed to know which one will last the longest! I don’t mind if my blankets pill but really want to gift something that could survive washes! Thank you!
I am happy to find your comprehensive review of popular acrylic yarns! 🎉I do wish you would maybe summarize your top 3 yarns at the end. I will continue to watch this series!
Your comparisons are totally fascinating to me! Thank you for taking so much time and effort! So, just my input, Dishie remains my favorite cotton yarn for dishcloths even though the absorbency is lower on the list. This is because I find it great to work with, the color choices, it is more durable (in my opinion, because of the tighter plies), and the colors don't fade like some other popular brands. I use my dishcloths more for cleaning than for soaking up spills or washing dishes (I have a dishwasher). Just a footnote . . . I have too many dishcloths and so I can't speak to the lifespan of any given yarn.
I find that Premier Home on the cone takes far longer to attain absorbency. Far longer than 5 washes. I don’t know what’s different between the balls and cones but there is one. I love geeky tests like this! Thanks!!!!
Hi. I’m not sure if you check back this far. Your reviews are extremely helpful and thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I also have sensitive skin and I have a suggestion. I wash my cakes and skeins of yarn before knitting. You wouldn’t believe the crap that comes out. I wash them very carefully as to not make snarls and roll them in a towel. I put them in small net bags (you could cut the legs of nylon stocking, too) and spin them in the washer. They need to be individual to not get tangled and the bag needs to be pretty tight. Then I put them in the sunshine, or in front of a heater vent, or even help it along with my hair dryer. If I don’t do this I get excema on my hands, not to mention breathing the horrible fragrances. I always wash new clothes because they’re super itchy otherwise. Yarn is the same. This might be helpful to you.
This was an awesome experiment. Thank you for doing it. I've wondered about making kitchen towels but it seems no one ever talks about that - I guess it's a sign that it's not the best idea. I like 24/7 yarn and have a failed potholder in single stitch, and a partial towel with a single and double stitch. I just poured a Tbl of water on both, and It just sat there on top!! NOOOO!!! I'm thinking maybe kitchen towels are a bad idea .🫤😭
Thank you for doing this!
I crochet and knit. I'm allergic to wool and i find your vlog very helpful. I'm glad you're with us for two more years💕
Yes! They discontinue them as soon as they come out. Which is why I’m gravitating to StyleCraft King Cole and Scheepjes
I love data! With a master of nursing degree I have the need for data! 😊
What is rivalry you refer to?
Thank you for these comparison videos! It was SOOOOOO helpful - especially for me as a beginner knitter. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Very interesting - surprising what your top rated yarn turns out to be! It would be really helpful if you could repeat the name of the yarn you are rating, or show the name printed in dark letters, when you are talking about it.
This is a really helpful project - I have very sensitive skin too, and also want to make sure things I make for my granddaughters will be nice and soft. You have put a lot of work into this, thank you! I also just found the list of the yarns - that’s very helpful, as I didn’t catch all the names watching the video. I’m glad you’re testing them after working up samples, I’ve noticed some yarns that feel soft in the ball can feel harsh in your fingers when working them, or have a different texture than you expect after they’ve been worked up. I’m looking forward to your results with swatches, washing and so on!
I really wish you showed us how it all burns, especially the merino Superwash.
I have a yarn just like the one you burn on about the third go of it. It burns fiercely but doesn’t leave a plastic ball. ?? It’s kind of fuzzy, soft, I’m as puzzled as you. Mohair? If you figure that one out please let me know. Thanks The videos out there on testing yarn with a flame are ridiculous!! They drive me crazy? Ugh. But I have learned a little bit here and there so I’m hoping and praying that you might make another video with a little more tips and info. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼Please??!! Lol. I hope so because I wish I could figure out the yarns I got from the thrift so I can finish my project. You sound very knowledgeable about yarns and brands, AND you have a bunch of mystery yarns to test!! Yay! So… Would you PLEASE consider doing another video where you don’t hold the yarn perpendicular to the flame? Because when yarn is dangling over the flame we won’t really know how it will truly burn by itself because the flame is under the yarn and continuing to reignite it, and the fire from the strand is also fueling the fire. Know what I mean? So we never see how that yarn will truly burn when it’s done dangling over a lighter. And in order to match with the document you share, we’d need to see it burn. I’ll explain. (Thanks for the document share by the way 👍🏼) It seems best to do this test over a burn proof plate. You then cut about 6-8” of yarn and fold it up a few times to make a little torch type thing. Then with put the folded yarn torch, held in a tweezer, and put the tips of the yarn into the flame of the candle, then drop the strand onto the plate so we can see how it burns by itself. Before you drop it you can put it in and out of the flame a time or two if necessary. For instance, wool yarn tends to go out by itself. So, you could put it back in the flame a few times to make sure it is really going out by itself and didn’t just blow out. This way we can really be sure what the yarn will do after initially lit. So, you’d be parallel to the flame, not perpendicular or hanging over the lighter flame, then let the yarn drop to the plate, this would be perfect! This way we can watch how the yarn FINISHES burning and how it behaves after igniting; wether it goes out or not, wether it sputters or not, and the color of the flame. This will also allow us to see the entire ash that’s left over, see if it’s hollow, or a bead of plastic, or etc, and how it reacts when crushed. MANY people will be so beholden to you if you could do this because, like I said, the videos out there are a mish-mash of a lot of people with tiny bits of knowledge, but no one really does the entire test right AND has all the mystery yarns that you do AND the knowledge of yarns and brands that you do! Gorgeous yarn by the way! I really hope you’ll do another video with these suggestions. Please? 🙏🏼 lol. I can say the alpaca is hairy. Merino is spun nicer and doesn’t get as fuzzy with use. I hope this info helps you, and in turn helps us. I’ll be watching and hoping. Thank you!!!
Very informative. Thanks so much. I have used only Lily's sugar and cream too just recently and the pot holders and oven mitt turned out just fine :)
It would be really helpful to put the final decisions on the screen so we don’t have to watch so long
I’m here for it, love your reviews! That hat is cute.
I use Red Heart's "With Love" yarn and would like that to be tested!
THANK YOU. I am forever asking these questions and never get a clear answer. Was just about to buy Holly Lobby but the video changed my direction. Embarked on a larger MKAL blanket for a high school grad gift that I want to last. 1/2 way thru w/RHSS and realize he is not going to be happy with the colors so will finish for myself but will now head over to your #1 blanket choice and hope there is a variety of colors based on changing color ways suggested for each clue. Thank you. Will try to use one of your affiliate links you deserve it
Thank you! This was an extensive review, and very helpful!!
Knitter here. Will be referring to this series again and again when I do charity knitting
I really love all he detail including your cost breakdowns. You are terrific
Actually I saw your videos and I have to look for your blog. I’m looking to make a special Afghan for my granddaughter and I love your reviews. I want to buy the best acrylic to make the blanket out of. You are my deciding factor. Plus I want to look at your cotton reviews 💖💖💖
I enjoy your scientific approach, by washing swatches and comparing them for various qualities.
I’m so glad you’re back. I love your reviews. Also as a new crocheter you’re reviewing yarn is so helpful!
I get it. Sometimes life does interrupt our creativity work
My suggestion for testing the durability of your cotton washcloths is to throw them in the wash with jeans or other rough wash loads. Maybe do them 20x each?
I love your reviews and especially the price ratings. Please keep doing them and even update the pre Covid prices. 🙂🙂🙂
Haha, every time I think about updating the prices, I see inflation has reached a new high. I figure I'll have to update them yet AGAIN in a month or two, so I just wait. ;)
I love yarn reviews and comparison videos. I am a long time knitter who is trying to learn how to crochet. I found Tunisian crochet much easier for me than regular crochet but I'm still trying. I haven't been to your website yet, but I will definitely go take a look at it. I do like to know about similar yarns made/sold by different companies. Knowing which is a better deal is very important. Knowing how each yarn holds up in the wash is a must for any yarn I might consider for a wearable or blanket type project.
As a new crocheter I found your videos most helpful for choosing Yarns for larger projects. I didn't want to spend all that time just to have it fall apart or look awful after the first wash. What's so many options and knowing very little about the Yarns I found your reviews super helpful.
these videos matter!!! love you for doing this work
Thank you for this video. I have looked on the internet for an article addressing quality of acrylic yarn, pulling, fuzz, how they stand up after washing, etc. Nothing out there like this video.
I thank you so much for these videos. It is the exact kind of video that I have been scouring TH-cam for with no success. Many thanks
Thank you for this ❤
Just wanted to say u made me rethink my yarn purchases in terms of the extra work certain yarn may put on the gifted so I’m going to purchase more acrylic yarn except for those few ppl I know take very good care of their accessories! Also I didn’t know about the lack of chemicals in some yarn!!! Ty for the comparison, it has been crazy helpful!!!
It"s interesting but
Very understandable moving is sooooo life consuming!
I just binge-watched the entire acrylic yarn review series and this video needs more comments! Thanks for all your hard work.
