At first you think "What do Devo and Neil Young have in common?" Devo always had an intellectual art rock aesthetic along the lines of bands like Roxy Music and Talking Heads, but they deconstructed rock n roll (as an example, their take on the Stones "Satisfaction") at the same time, much like Neil Young deconstructed the folk background that influenced him and distilled it into his own brand of punk rock. At the end of the day, it's also a testament to how many different ways a song can be interpreted and still retain its essence.

I am not a critic or influencer and I graduated from college a million years ago. I am not about changing anyone’s mind or acting like I know more or have seen/heard it all. But while in LA at the height of new wave in the early 80’s I saw SL several times. Hands down, to me, the greatest new wave band of all time. Brilliant.

Neil had bought one of the first Moog sythesizers in the late 70s. While all his contemporaries ran for cover when new wave and punk emerged, neil just saw it all as another genre to explore as an artist. It's pretty bizarre, but I'm glad it exists.
