several episodes should be watched together. 5&6 should be seen as a pair. 7-10 should also be shown together. They don't do infodumps, but give out info as they go along. We learn about the magic systems (yes, I said systems) in several episodes. You'll learn Frieren's backstory later on. You'll learn Stark's backstory later on. and more.

The reason she said "a mere 10-year adventure" is just that it's a callback to what she said at the end of the journey with the Hero's Party. It's actually supposed to be a little ironic now, like she understands better what 10 years can mean.

If you want to know how old Fern is during the anime just subtract 11 from the years since Himmel’s death. In episode 3 Fern says that she is 16 years old and that is when it was 27 years since Himmel’s death.

Fern is 16, she had the birthday in ep.3. The time displayed is "years since the death of Himmel the Hero".

That was not a grave toward the end. that was a small shrine to the goddess with offerings to the goddess. You'll see a more traditional grave marker in the 4th episode. And the graveyard in ep 2 were more like we are used to.

how could some patreon force this think tank to react "Frieren"? He needs two episodes for realizing Frieren gave this series her name. And we all don´t know if he didn´t realize Himmel prevented Fern´s suicide or it he just wasn´t interested, same the story about the alcohol on Himmel´s gravestone. Let´s think about if that´s a global cultural tradition...... The whole "reaction" got shredded and cobbled dumb and senseless together and it seems the reacter even missed the half of that. We need more assisted watching and helping hands by the patreons.

I hope you enjoy this anime, it is great! The first episode of this anime was originally planned to be released as a 90 minute movie but was instead changed into 4 episodes released on the same day. To get the full sense of the anime you should watch the first 4 episodes before deciding if you want to continue. That being said I believe you will like it enough to continue the series.
