Hi there, doing the same thing to my trailer. Curious, what in the height of the dovetail to the floor?
Wish I could let you know, but I no longer have the trailer, so I can't go measure it for ya.
A dovetail is a woodworking joint, has nothing to do with a trailer.
technically a dovetail is the back feathers of a common bird. has nothing to do with woodworking.
Can you elaborate on how you joined the dovetail piece to the trailer? (to the right if the reflective tape and under the two pipes at the start of the video) It would be nice to see a close up of where you welded and how the piece was cut and placed. I’m building one this coming month. Thanks in advance!!!
I butt welded the 2 pieces of channel together, then I added the fish plate over the top. I cut holes in the fish plate so that I could plug weld it in several spots, and then I welded the full perimeter of the fish plate. Check out my other channel th-cam.com/users/UintaGarage for more information
@@joshusername22 Nice, I saw one video where they notched the channel into a L shape like to simple puzzle pieces then added a gusset... but a plug welded fish plate seems like a much better solution in addition to the L shape cup on the channel I saw.... instead of a normal but weld... one channel looses a rectangle stape on top while the other on the bottom then interlock it like a pair of hands shaking. Appreciate the response... plug welds for the win

The trailer deck is about 32" off the ground. To be honest, I feel like my ramps are a bit short to use with a car, but for the most part I haul lifted trucks, so it hasn't been an issue.
I’m looking to do this to my flatbed , I haul sedans often how much longer would you have gone if you where to be loading lower clearance cars? Thanks

A note I should add since this is getting so many views is that this added a lot of weight to the rear and I ended up having to move the suspension back 18" to get the tongue weight back where it should be.

Very well done. Question, Why didn't you fish-mouth the lower 6" channel as well?
Honestly, I could have, but decided it was unnecessary. That lower channel is under compression, meaning all of the loading on it is trying to push it together, not pull it apart. Something to keep an eye on I guess.
Horrible wobble. Don't buy it! I wish to know what brand to avoid.
did you fix that? i wonder if there's a simple way to fix it like the lathe chuck grinding trick
