The Passion to Play - Australian Football (AFL)
A glimpse at the ultra inspiring Australian Football documentary written and directed by the late Rob Dickson. The documentary gives an insight into the roller coaster ride of playing Australian Football at the highest level featuring more than 180 players past and present. This video shows the excitement and joy of playing your first game and fulfilling your boyhood dream of making the big time. It gets the hair standing up on the back of your neck and makes you think how lucky we are to have our great game.

Don't Let The Big V Down - Greg Champion
มุมมอง 20K17 ปีที่แล้ว
Don't Let The Big V Down is written to honour the life of Mr Football, Ted Whitten.
This reminds me of the Couldabeen Champions on the morning radio. It was worth going for a drive just to listen to the radio for an hour or two.
randomly just remembered this song outta nowhere and had to look it up
Loving these docos But can’t find The Year Of The Dogs? Can anyone please send me the link? Cheers
Don’t let the Big V down!!
One of my favourite songs.

I love this sport so much, would give my right nut to have the ability to play Aussie Rules football.
Wow, this is really a quite stunning piece of film...bravo! Greatest Game in the World.
The AFL should definitely bring back State of Origin, it would be a great business move! Play a tournament in the Pre-Season, and instead of the players picked playing in the NAB Cup they play State of Origin, that way the coaches won't mind them playing. If they did that it would create a whole new dimension to the sport, a (Whole New Season!). Which means because of more games & high quality games means more money from T.V Rights. When it gets bigger the AFL could sell the SoO T.V rights separate. And The AFL would get money from Merchandise & Attendances.
hahah thats sick as bro hopefully some brits may be good enough to try play in the AFL Theirs some african american yanks trying their luck in aus as we speak
Soccer is for pussies!!
how did he film this?
The crazy thing is I play American Football & Aussie Football here in London, UK. For the teams London Blitz (American Football) & for the North London Lions (Aussie Rules Football)
At least in our game supporters of either team can sit next to each other. I follow Aussie Rules and Rugby League and if my home team of Dandenong Thunder hadn't been persecuted by the idiots who run Association Football (see we even know soccers proper name!) in this country and state then I would follow them too. I don't know why people don't just respect the relative abilities of the players in each different code
soccer is the one and only football....the others are just shitball !!!!
People come here from soccer nations,Italians,Scots,English,Irish,Indians,Sth Africans and get caught in the web of magnificence that is our code, the greatest sport on Earth.
Forgot the Greeks and Croatians and Chinese and Kiwis, everyone who watches this game here, starts falling in love with the sport very quickly.
I think that's a little disrespectful. Where people show passion and derive great enjoyment from their code, what does it matter how "big" a footprint it has? Take a look rugby union in Wales and NZ, Gaelic Football in Ireland - massive crowds, singing (like in soccer) and a fantastic heritage
You've just took a turn into a dead end mate.
Ever looked outside Australia? The other 'footballs' are just grease-stains on the sporting map. I love AFL, but it doesn't compare.
soccer is one form of football, not the one and only.
anyone else get here from tv tropes?
so true thats what my mum did to me and then when i got taller then her i forced her let me play
agreeed, I got stuck with soccer for eight years, finally getting into footy now at the age of 19!
Dimitrieou is more corrupt than Blatter, and that says a lot.
probably why it's not corrupt, nor full of wankers who want more money :)
I'm Australian actually. Only AFL fans think that one nationality plays sokka, as nobody outside Australia gives a shit about their sport.
wog
Soccer is football, and that's the most pig-headed comment I've ever read.
Demetriou is a fascist
Umpire gives Des a pat on the back @ 2:24 what a champ!
Isreal Floua & Karmicheal Hunt are marketing plou's the AFL know's they can't play. Australian football & Soccer are called Football for different reason's. Australian football calls it Football because the main way to use the ball is to kick it, which makes sense. Soccer they say they call it Footbal because you only use your Feet, the difference is our's makes sense because in soccer you use every part of your body apart from your hands;)
Correct.
We play every Saturday in summer in Berlin too :)
wow i didnt think americans even knew what aussie rules football is :) You should move to Aus
That is a true legend at 06:25.That guy could play footy.
I love both... we played both NFL and AFL rules back in PE when I was in high school... also played rugby. I don't get why fans from each sport hate the others... they're all god damn amazing
wheres the rest ?
We could care less about SCCER.
@AKgooner92 atmosphere is one thing, how about action on the field? the reason why the crowd are so vocal at 'soccer' is because it's a slow moving game, with very few scoring opportunities, what else are the crowd gonna do for 90 mins? Least in AFL there is constant action, tackling, kicking, contests for the ball and scoring. The crowd is too interested in the game itself to be concerned with creating atmosphere, no need for it.
Bring back state of origin!
@AKgooner92 NO your wrong... again. It's proper name is Association Football, Soccer is a play on the word association originating from England (not the USA). Like all football codes which ever is the most popular in that country takes the name football USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, PNG, South Africa, Ireland and the Australasian islands all refer to it as Soccer Europe and Asia call it Football because it is the dominant code in there parts.
@AKgooner92 P2 two sets of rules were written the first one was called Rugby Rules Football (Union, League) and the second Association Football (Soccer). That's why we have Aussie Rules football because it was our set of rules for our version of football (same as America with gridiron) That's why all the sports I mentioned refer to themselves as football.
@AKgooner92 Aussie Rules, Soccer, Rugby union, League and Gridiron all shear similar history. In England before any official rules had been written by any of the codes towns would compete in there own unique styles of football. It got to a stage where there were two popular versions, one version where you could pick up the ball and kick it and the other where you kicked it along the ground not using your hands at all. To stop the constant arguing about whether you could pick the ball up or not
@AKgooner92 The fact that you have to ask why we call it football just proves your ignorance and lack of knowledge
Awesome game. Love it!
@AKgooner92 Aussies call it football because you use your foot to kick the ball, you fucking idiot.
all these soccer fans hating on AFL.. in this game there is no easy way out, you have to be insanely fit, strong, quick, agile, having amazing foot skills,be able to think on the spot in a split second, be able to take a mark against up to 3 people at once, you need to know how to tackle and not let your opponent get away from you, it takes guts to play this game and is so much harder and tougher than soccer.. what you have to do in soccer, kick ball with foot, headbutt ball and know how to dive
AND...there are NO 'Nil-All draws'.
This brings back memories of turning on the tv after playing at a mud soaked West Lalor or Alphington or any other old school shit Diamond Valley ground after Sunday morning under 11s
@MisterCelery yea i love football aye :) 90 minutes for a 1 all draw fuck yes dude, what about them dives though? really livens things up :)
