Midnight Turnaround! The Redeye Challenge - X-Plane 12
Hello and Welcome Aboard! Tonight we'll be doing a very reasonable trip for a single pilot operation, departing Tampa Bay at 6PM Eastern, arriving at Seattle at 9PM Pacific, and then departing to arrive at Fort Lauderdale at 6:30AM Eastern the next day! No sleep required!
We'll be utilizing the Boeing 737-900ER, a plane which I hadn't flown in several years. What could possibly go wrong?
Tampa Bay is the default X-Plane 12 scenery.
Seattle is Seattle Airports XP by Drzewiecki. Built for X-Plane 11. Seems to work OK for XP12, only issue I've noticed is purple taxiway lights.
The airplane is the LevelUp 737, available for free at threshold.
Livery is of N292AK, modern Alaska 2016 livery, painted by InvisStick: forum.thresholdx.net/files/file/3879-alaska-airlines-2016-livery-for-levelup-737-900er-n292ak/

Short Field Techniques With A 737 - X-Plane 12
มุมมอง 310วันที่ผ่านมา
Today's video semi-unironically demonstrates steps that can be taken to ensure a short-field takeoff and landing is planned and conducted as safe as possible. We'll be utilizing our available resources to find out the weather and airplane performance to calculate if the takeoff and landing can (or better yet should) be conducted in the first place. From there we'll glance over techniques the pi...

As an apology for how horrible those audio transitions came out on the last video, here's a fun extra video to enjoy! The video was taken last fall (around Thanksgiving 2024), while I was on my way down to Huntsville to pick up a PA-17 Vagabond that needed to be ferried from Alabama to New York. Despite how poor I was, I for some stupid reason decided to spend an extra $30 on a window seat. Got...

PLEASE READ: I sincerely apologize for the horrible audio transitions. I was using a new video editing software that came with my new PC. It was working well and the previews for the video in the editor had the correct, smooth transitions. Unfortunately each time I tried to export and produce the final video, the audio transitions only worked properly half the time. My research says this is an ...

Welcome back aboard our favorite Saab 340! This will be a night flight to Upstate New York from the LaGuardia Airport in New York City. Because, ya know, what's more fun than sitting in front of a fake Saab 340 pretending to be a regional captain in 2011! Luckily for us things go fairly smoothly on this trip. The biggest risk factor may just be pilot fatigue. And yes, this is a real Mesaba rout...

Ever dreamed of being a commuter pilot in 2011? Me neither! Yet here we are, stepping back in time to fly 30 people in a small turboprop from Manchester, NH to New York City for $15/hr (air time only). If we make it to New York on time, management might throw a couple lolipops into our paycheck! On the bright side, besides a few gusts departing Manchester, here's a beautiful day with a sunset a...
MSFS - Flying into a Presidential TFR... Legally!
มุมมอง 975 หลายเดือนก่อน
A lot of students and enthusiasts think of TFRs as "no-fly zones". In reality, they're exactly what the name suggests. "Temporary Flight Restriction". Just extra flight restrictions put in place for a given amount of time. Maybe they say all operations prohibited, maybe limited to military ops only. Some only say no unmanned ops. Oftentimes, general aviation operations are allowed with some res...

From a slightly screwed up DP to a traffic alert with another IFR aircraft, here's a debriefing of a recent flight I did on the VATSIM network from Monterey, CA to Reno, NV in the Citation Longitude. Granted, given its a repo flight of a private jet, I feel like there's been sketchier done in real life than in this video... I imagine you've already learned it by now, but that constant flickering you were seeing near the end of the flight was the strobe lighting being reflected by the surrounding weather. I like that it's simulated actually! There are quite a few irl minutiae like this that I never would have learned about in MSFS.

    Super nice to see! One thing I forgot to mention in my last comment is that I love your timestamping and descriptions. C= I'm also very impressed with your briefing and believe you do a wonderful job at this, as well as keeping focused on the task at hand while verbalizing what you're doing (such as during the climb out while ignoring the seizure attack from the rainy strobes). Happy New Year! 🥳

    Randomly got this recommended and very glad for it! The plane is already really impressive; while the graphics look outdated, the functionality is so well simulated that I assumed it was a gem held back by XP11 looks. Not to mention, you are both very entertaining and also informative to watch! So glad to have found your channel 💛

    Great video, thanks 4 posting. Neebie question When you are on final in low visability in low cloids/fog. I noticed in game if i have landing lights on i cant see runway lights. In rral life IFR, on final do real life pilots keep landing lights on or off in order to see runwsy lights to land? Is it legal to not have landing lights on or is that always up to pilots discretion?

    • @sploop1992
      @sploop1992 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you enjoyed the video! That's a good question about landing lights, and it really depends on the situation. The landing light is not required for day flying under part 91 (general aviation). Airline/charter flights are operated with additional regulations (part 121 and 135) which I don't know off the top of my head. Different operators may have their own procedures for their pilots to follow, too. For night flying, the landing light is required for GA flying only if you are flying for hire. At that, I (and every pilot I know) always keep the landing light on for takeoff and landing, and it's even a good idea to leave it on during cruise below 10,000'. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to see runway lights with the landing light on, unless maybe the fog is so dense that the glow of your landing light is brighter than the runway lights? This might be an issue with your sim, which I can't really help with.

    • @Mikinct
      @Mikinct 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sploop1992 thanks 4 reply. Yeah, all I was getting to is in low cloud heights or in thick fog turning on landing lights creates this wall of light that is bouncing off of the thick layer of clouds. In game when landings lights are turned off in IFR thick cloud coverage one is then able to make out runway lights. Just wondered on ga part 91 if pilots have choice to leave off lights on short final in order to see the runway in poor visible conditions.

      @@sploop1992 on a side note, In game while doing a ILS approach you catch the glide slope & you can see either steam gauge needles aligning or in G1000 diamonds for glide slope. When using a RNAV approach the autopilot does catch the final fix & keeps you in localizer & deciding but without any way to visually see if you are above it below glide slope on Rnav. Is there no way to monitor if autopilot is staying below recommended glide slope on a Rnav or do you simply trust your equipment? LMAO 🤣😅

    • @sploop1992
      @sploop1992 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Mikinct I'm not directly familiar with the G1000 so I can't help too much, but I would think there should be a way to visually confirm the glideslope/localizer. Definitely don't blindly trust your autopilot lol. There's plenty of video tutorials on the G1000 that I'd highly recommend giving a watch, lots of good information out there

    • @Mikinct

      @@sploop1992 thanks. Learned that some Rnav approaches with LPV do provide glide slope visual indication. But they are limited upon airports. LPV Approach: These approaches use GPS signals and WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) to provide precision guidance with glide slope information. GLS Approach: These approaches use GPS signals and GBAS to provide precision guidance with glide slope information. LP Approach: These approaches use GPS signals and WAAS to provide lateral guidance only, without glide slope information.
