Seguin is home to the world’s largest pecan
Here in Texas, we like to have the biggest of everything, whether it’s boots, burgers or bulls. So I wasn’t surprised to learn that we even claim the original world’s biggest pecan, proudly displayed on the lawn of the Guadalupe County Courthouse in Seguin, about 35 miles east of San Antonio. I decided it was a story (and a nut) I needed to crack for myself.

Chet sets sail on a re-created French sailboat

La Petite Belle, a half-sized, 30-foot-long recreation of the original, now sails the high seas of Texas, giving tourists a taste of maritime history and adventure. The jolly crew of museum volunteers seemed seaworthy as they called out commands across the deck and navigated our ship using 17th-century techniques.

“A good snake is a dead snake.” Hawkins and Parker hear that almost every day. “Completely false,” says Hawkins, who owns Big Country Snake Removal outside Abilene. “They play a big role in the ecosystem. They’re very important to a healthy ecosystem. And they all deserve life.”
Chet slithers into the Snake Farm zoo near San Antonio

There’s almost no better way to break up a road trip than popping into a strange, offbeat roadside attraction. But this famous destination on Interstate 35 north of San Antonio is the king cobra of them all. I don’t suffer from ophidiophobia (the fear of snakes), but even I was nervous stepping into a building full of the world’s most venomous vipers.

Like many young boys, I grew up pretending to be a medieval knight fighting dragons and rescuing damsels in distress. My castle was usually a cardboard box or a pile of couch cushions. Mike Newman had the same boyhood fantasies but was brave enough to turn them into a royal reality.

In most circles, asking someone if they prefer "The Munsters" or "The Addams Family" can make for fun dinner conversation. But in Waxahachie, there’s only one right answer. Because even though "The Munsters’" beloved sitcom wrapped in 1966, the family’s iconic mansion on 1313 Mockingbird Lane lives on in this growing town south of Dallas.

Katie Phillips is old enough to remember the dark ages-when nightfall at her family’s farm outside Coleman meant navigating by the shadowy illumination offered by carbide and coal-oil lamps and lanterns. When much of the work on her dad’s dairy farm-the milking, separating and bottling-happened before sunrise and without the benefit of electricity.
Chet finds peace, giant gators at Brazos Bend State Park

I like zoos. The cages and fences offer comfort when staring into the eyes of an apex predator. But there’s something exhilarating about stepping into a natural habitat and encountering a wild creature in its element. And that’s the draw of Brazos Bend State Park, which comprises nearly 5,000 acres of wetland marsh and coastal prairie in Fort Bend County. Visit on a sunny day and you’re almost ...
Chet investigates the Malakoff Man at the Pearce Museum
มุมมอง 5626 หลายเดือนก่อน
A group of workers near the East Texas town of Malakoff made an unusual discovery near the Trinity River in 1929. They were digging out a gravel pit when they unearthed a round stone about the size of a basketball lying 20 feet below ground level. As they looked at its smooth surface, the stone seemed to be looking back at them through two carved eyes. Was this a prehistoric sculpture? And how ...

While Dale Blasingame was waiting in the car line to enter Hamilton Pool Preserve in July 2014, a ranger walked over with bad news-the popular Hill Country swimming hole was full. Sensing his disappointment, the ranger suggested an alternative, the nearby Pedernales Falls State Park. “Would you like a day pass or an annual pass?” A simple question at the entrance to Pedernales Falls prompted Bl...
Chet Visits the Leona General Store: The Best Little Steakhouse in Texas
มุมมอง 41K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
In my line of work, it’s normal to pass through a small town with ailing buildings and few visible signs of life. It isn’t normal for one of those old wooden storefronts to have a line 150 Texans long, stretching clear into the next parking lot. I pulled over to find out what was happening at the Leona General Store, and after someone told me it was steak night, I had no choice but to get in line.

If you were to envision a day trip to the Pie Capital of Texas, you might picture homey cafés, cozy cups of coffee and buttery crusts filled with sugary happiness. And you can certainly find those things in Kyle, south of Austin. But you can also smash pie plates into tiny bits and shatter coffee cups into smithereens-legally (and safely)-at Unchartered Adventures, a unique indoor entertainment...

Nestled on the banks of the Brazos River, this charming site was once the headquarters for Stephen F. Austin’s colony and is now a fascinating glimpse into the lives of early Texians. Things got especially interesting, and spooky, when I crossed the street and stepped inside the old jail. This citadel of servitude opened in 1903 and served Brown County until the 1980s. The smell of stone and rusted metal permeates every room. The ground floor, which was once the sheriff’s private residence, is now an incredible museum about Texas rule of law and includes stories of famous ou...

Not this again…Billy the Kid died at the hands of Pat Garrett- he’s dead- so is Elvis
Did they put a rub on the steak???
Great people for sure. They are more eager to share their food with you than to make money. Aint no way that steak is 10oz. Its 16oz at least.
Billy the Kid wrote well, spoke fluent Spanish. Brushy Bill was illiterate, couldn't speak Spanish. Brushy Bill wasn't even old enough to be Billy the Kid ( as per family birth records).
Will he cut to order. Because I do NOT want the fat cut off at all.
The fat is the best part it's so juicy and flavorful
🙏GOD BLESS!💕
After I moved here I drove to the Park with my new pup not knowing the gator situation. We didn’t stop. Great park.
Omg all white I like alot
Beautiful. Please post more of your playing!
Broham approves! And I am hungry.
As for Billy the Kid, as long as he was not behind you, you were pretty safe.
Photos came back with 97pc probability
No they do not. They came back as No.
Sheriff Bart would love that town🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Chet!! It's Chet what a great name and I have a passion for food definately would be fun to do a Chet and Chet episode. Have a blessed day and good eating!!
No!
Glad they allow BYO-bottle... I always think of ribeyes and Cabernet Sauvignon... that husky heat headed down the gullet... mmmm mmmm. Thanks, Chet & Crew. I was hoping I could come in without getting arrests. (I was planning on passing out cups and having fellow diners drink the evidence away.)
Jeeeeeezus! I have got to make a trip from SW MIssouri down there just for a steak!
Another little fact, Billy the Kid was not left-handed. Look it up!
The photo is reversed. 👍
If he was billy why does his grave stone not say henry mcarty
🥩🤠
Hello im John im 71 yrs old. I Have Definative Brushy Bil was in fact the kid.john
Thank you for eating like a normal human and not shoving food down like a animal
You were supposed to come to the wildlife bird refuge in Wichita Falls...but we got cut out for the worlds smallest skyscraper. 🙃 That was messed up bro.
Very very loose with the facts, but entertaining.

Wet Willies sings Leona's home cook n cafe❤😂
This video is horrible. Commentary is bad and the food looks bad so I don’t understand what the point is
Pretty straightforward video. It was a small excerpt from a whole episode. Food was shown, it’s a steak I mean what else do you expect. Interview with owner was good. Probably being a bit to critical
I thought it was great😂
How stuck-up and miserable can you possibly be. The steaks look fantastic, stick to McDonald's.
We’ll your comment makes you sound like a snob. The steak looked great but that’s just my opinion.
Go away
Hope y’all picked up your trash
Badass small town shit
Billy was right handed, Roberts left handed, Billy wrote letters to Governor Wallace, Roberts was functionally illiterate, plus Roberts looked nothing like Billy.
No, he got killed in Ft. Sumner, this always happens with famous people, "they didn't really die" stuff.
Old Brushy was a colorful wannabe. He claimed having been Billy, a Rough Rider etc. etc. His list of claims is long, but his timeline does not fit. Morrison claimed Brushy had all the same scars that Billy had. The catch: Noone ever knew what scars Billy had! It's never been mentioned - Not even once! Brushy could not read and write, but Billy could and Billy spoke Spanish as well. No photo of dead Billy? No, the nearest photographer was in Albuquerque and Las Vegas (NM) and those were 3-5 days away from Fort Sumner. Imagine arriving there and no photographer around since he was out? It would have taken at least one week to get a photographer to Sumner and that's the fastest. By the way: Many locals saw Billy's dead body. They sat wake, washed him and dressed him before putting him in a coffin made in Sumner. Even after all these years none of these people have ever said it was not Billy. They mourned him! Forget Brushy being Billy. He was a funny old weirdo whom Morrison tried to push to make a dollar out of!!!
My mom has a room full of them. Probably about 1,000-1,500. And yes… she even has two 6ft tall ones.. every Christmas I get to pull my back moving them for her lol..
This guy is to old to be billy the kid.
Zero chance this faker was Billy. His own family said so.
There's a fictional movie called Old Henry which has a very interesting take on this topic.
This story is false this brushy character was not Billy
😅 I know that Pat Garrett shot someone. But know proof he killed Billy the kid. My mother was in Albuquerque NM. When my dad was in the air force. She meet Pat Garrett sister and she said her brother shot somebody in the mountains of New Mexico but never brought back a body.
Yes kin folks hico but he is in Kentucky 🤠 Georgia
Canton is my Disneyland
I amazed there is no pic of his dead body being that famous of an outlaw.
You shouldn't be. You've been convinced of a falsehood, that photos of dead outlaws were common. They weren't. They were common in towns that had photographers, which Fort Sumner didn't. Pat Garrett would have had to have sent someone 2 and a half days to Las Vegas, NM to get the nearest photographer and then wait another 2 and a half days for the photographer to arrive with his equipment. Or he would have had to have taken Billy's rotting corpse the 2 and a half day trip to Las Vegas. All that just wasn't necessary. The entire town of Fort Sumner saw the Kid's body and verified that Garrett had killed him
they even found brushy Bill’s birth certificate in a Bible… he’s not the kid
No
Just south across Highway 80 was Lillard's Hog Farm, which stunk to high heaven for the longest time. When my family took the tour and was shown the secret tunnel, my civil engineer Dad said, "It just looks to me like where they took the garbage out."
Interesting video, thank you!
Brushy bill and Doc only lived 200 miles apart in texas
Before I was rudely interrupted, I believe that Brushy Bill Roberts was BBR. Not the kid, I think that Garret killed the kid. But what I do have question with is, how the whole thing started. Garret left a capital punishment prisoner with deputies to find wood. I think the killing of the two deputies is on Garret. Also, I think if you can keep meat cool for a few days, you can keep a body cool. There could have been a photographer. If you take a town of about 200, there are artist, musicians, comedians in every crowd. I just think there were going to be na sayers and paperwork can be forged. Garret had put in a position that he had to tell the story right is my point.
❤❤absolutely he was Billy the kid forensic files said 93# positive after all them years he knew stuff nobody could know about and he shot Bob Ollinger with 20 silver dimes and Mexican kids were picking them up behind the deputy s body chest blown out though lol hahaha yes he was William H Bonnie
Billy never shot anybody with coins! It's all hearsay and BS!
