College project unit 10 was to create an ident for any company. I chose The Hillywood Show as Hilly and Hannah Hindi are the main people who inspired me to be in the film industry :)

I went to the secondary school in Deepdean road, had many a lovely ice cream at Ferrars whose son Anthony went to the same school. Years later I drove the 51 bus which went past Welling corner to Woolwich from Farnborough and Green st Green. Happy days.

I can remember trolley buses which I think ran along Upper Wickham Lane, and then Welling High Street up to Bexleyheath Broadway. I also recall prefabricated houses close to Upper Wickham Lane, still there some 15 years after World War II ended. I think Kate Bush lived very close to this spot as a child. The Granada Cinema, Ferara's... I remember them all.

I enjoyed this short film of Welling - I live in Australia now but in the early sixties did work at Lloyds Bank Welling and also did go for a while to the Embassy Dance Hall on a Saturday night 😄

Lovely to see Pat talking about Welling. It bought back memories of her and Mum at St. Johns. For a few minutes Welling seemed just a bit closer to New Zealand. Thanks Charlotte. David Penny

The Fanny On The Hill pub got knocked down about 20 years ago. It was replaced by a series of flats. The area is no longer called Fanny On The Hill (well, not to newer residents) and is now called East Wickham (use of the word "fanny", I think). The fields that we used to call Fanny on the Hill are now East Wickham Open Space. A lot of the Welling pubs have gone but if you head slightly north to the Shoulder of Mutton Green, the Green Man is still there. The Glenmore Arms was converted into flats about 5 years ago. The Foresters (opposite Plumstead graveyard) is closed down but looking for someone to buy it and re-open as a pub.

Lived in Welling from 1968-1995, happy times especially growing up there in the 70s. Always think of the old place.

On the lake side of the Mansion, while it still sold ice-creams in the 1960s, there was a paved area, as per the photograph. Through a grille set into the paving, I could see two tunnels leading towards the lake. To a child, mysterious tunnels are utterly fascinating, but no-one did or has ever mentioned or explained them. Maybe as mundane as the domestic drainage of the Bean family running into the lake, their lake at the time, in the absence of municipal drainage systems. But then again….?

I went to Welling Central Boys School my first job was at the COOP in the High St. The Embassy was a favourite place to go on a Saturday night and on Tuesday nights they had Wrestling I believe the BBC used it as a studio during the war I joined the RAF at the end of 1960 on my first leave I was informed that the Embassy would close in the New Year.

Born in 1956 on the council estate by the station. I remember the places mentioned here. My Mum still lives in Welling and is 94 now. Her Mum used to work in the cafe that is now called "The Koffi Pot". Used to love the Granada and Danson Swimming pool. We still visit there frequently. Great video, thanks for sharing.

The buses with 'poles' were not trams. They were trolley -buses.

The smaller Tesco store referred to, as part of the development replacing the old Embassy Ballroom, was initially a Victor Value supermarket. Tesco took that over later.
